A few of the rookies have hit the wall at the same time with not much on the horizon. Hopefully a couple of serviceable ones pop up over the next couple of weeks for cash gen.

I prefer Walsh over Cripps for the run home if I was picking a Carlton mid. WC were a bit of an easy kill with Walsh, Hewett, Doc and Cripps all hitting the ton with 3 of the 4 scoring over 115.

Steele feels like the best value at his price of any mid, but his first two rounds before the injury were pretty average so you would like to see another good score this week before picking him.

You probably can't go wrong with Cripps as an option in the long term due to how much contested ball he does win.

Just short on cash for Walsh, I think they will probably go toe to toe from here so Cripps a solid alternative. The big advantage with Cripps is the VC potential, I'm rolling with him this week. He's also a form player, tends to have 4-5 matches of 120+ scores, hopefully this is the beginning of a monthly blitz.

Just some possible targets over the next few weeks -

Fyfe - with a lack of downgrades Fyfe maybe a suitable sideways trade, particularly for those struggling in the forward line. I think Fyfe eventually gets DPP which makes him a decent bet.

Mills - price headed sub 500k, he was the reason I didn't jump on Day, I think for upside he could be an inspired pick. Odds on to get DPP.

Steele - big BE so might drop some more, I didn't jump on this week due to LDU potentially playing a close checking role.

Brayshaw - I think he turns things around but right now he's as cheap as chips, not a bad punt although Serong may have eaten into his scoring potential.

Docherty - another player who is going cheap, looks like a bargain right now.

Solid week with 2386, rank still only average coming in at the 16k mark, hopefully the byes gets the team humming on the way to the top 1000.

This week will be some spring cleaning, Greene & Van Rooyen out, Horne-Francis and Drury in, being a man of occasion I'm backing Horne-Francis to have a big game, much to to prove. He's probably not a keeper but he's 50k-100k undervalued so I'm taking a punt.

Next week I'll look at Laird, Docherty & Steele, don't mind punting any underperforming mid pricer.

Esava doing well and keeping the seat warm for Gawn in round 12.

Bully

Parish out with a calf injury, I'll concede I should have taken Petracca instead of Macrae but the durability premium still very relevant with scores of potential midfielders missing in action.

arbel

Yeah the 'premium' mids that are underperforming is alarming. They seem to have a good week to keep you on the hook then put in a couple bad ones.
Good trades this week. Horne-francis could be either a genius move or big flop. I agree not a keeper but should make enough for stepping stone

Mat0369

If you have the trades to burn I can see the logic in grabbing JHF this week. He can hopefully make some quick cash and be a stepping stone. Personally not a fan of the pick at 400k but it could pay off

Bully

With JVR free to play I'll probably punt Will Phillips instead, BE of 59 is on the highish side for Van Rooyen but given the Demons fought for his availability I'd say his job security is decent.

There's a couple of reasons behind grabbing Horne-Francis, his BE is 36 so he makes money in all likelihood, with a lack of rookies it's one avenue to generating cash.

The other factor is his ownership, he's still in 24% of teams so it's just as much a neutralising move as it is a cash generating trade. If he hits the ton he's on his way to 500k, that makes grabbing a player like Laird imminently doable.

This year it's looking like most competitive teams will need 14 million in the kitty, that will require some slightly unorthodox trading from here.

Fyfe is another I'll look at, could be a straight swap with a dead rookie in a couple of weeks. Projected to be 240k with another sub score.

arbel

I think Van Rooyen's BE is 69? A little high but yes the job security seems to be okay like you say. Does play hawks so could get to his BE.
I'm also tracking Fyfe, he won't be the sub forever and could potentially get him as F7 for rest of season.
Not a bad cover. Also any injury to serong/brayshaw etc and he'll be back in the middle

BE is 59 I believe, he should give that a shake this week.

Shizen week just barely scraping 2100, injuries aplenty although perhaps not as bad as some (see Mills). I'm torn this week, I think now is the time to get Walsh, DPP makes him the most valuable piece on the board, perhaps with the exception of Petracca. With Hopper out he's the logical choice.

Last week I agonised over Meek & Horne-Francis, my Reeves concerns probably way too fatalistic and he should do well against the Eagles. Could be a cut price Gawn all things considered.

Macrae spending a lot of time on the bench, that is a slight concern but at least he's still healthy. Down to 13 trades, still a ridiculous amount of holes. Maybe Fyfe to the rescue.

Ringo

Would probably sit this week with only 13 trades left.

Keep an eye on byes if not tanking Rd 15 you have 9 prems out.  Know Walsh with DPP.  I had the same issue but Petracca is getting close to getting it as well why I opted for him.

I'm carrying Hopper, no point holding, have to trade.

If I do 1 trade, it's Hopper to Meek, but with Gawn in the picture I may just wait for that and use Ratugolea for an upgrade.

Round 15 a long way off but that's a lot of players out of action. Fyfe will come in however, that's pretty good cover.

Will Mills be back in round 15? Forecast to be under 400k, Macrae to Mills, Cripps to Petracca, problem solved but will cost 2 trades.

Bully

With regards to the bye, I'll be focusing on Laird, Mills, Gawn & Petracca, those are my targets and doable I think.

Mills projected to be 380k after 2 drops, for this to work it will have to be a 4 weeker which is the earliest he'll be back.

Laird projected to be 580k next week, I may look at him as early as next week.

Petracca too pricey now, need to wait but round 15 an opportune time.

Gawn also in after he gets his DPP.

Fyfe a one trade easy fix for a dud rookie like Johnson.

Mat0369

All those guys seem like pretty solid targets. Mills will be the perfect M9 when he returns from injury. Trac is far too expensive right now and he will have a stinker eventually, could very well be this week as he may be a little underdone with the ankle. Walsh is a safe pick due to the amount of ball he wins. His disposal hasn't been great which has probably capped his ceiling a little bit, but I think you can bank on 105-120 most weeks.

Bully

Nat Fyfe back in the 22, great timing, BE of 100, looking for a 60+ score this week, if Cincotta is cut then this is an easy sideways trade.

In other news Reeves is back so maybe my reluctance with Meek was reasonable, the Ratugolea upgrade now down to Gawn or Cameron. I'm more Gawn at this stage.

Will Phillips is also back, rotten timing on my part but nevermind.

So next week it will probably be Laird or Fyfe, probably the latter if he passes the 60 mark.
