After Friday night...

Disaster for the Dillos, as Jarrod Berry played into the third quarter despite getting injured in the 2nd. It means his 35 stays on the field, where Zac Bailey took full advantage and saluted for the Islanders.

It's a clear 79 point lead to the Islanders already  :-X

After Saturday night

Holy moly, that's a SPICY MEATBALL!

What a game we have on our hands! Pacific have applied a HEAP of pressure onto the Dillos led by captain Rory Laird (133), taking it right up to Buenos Aires whom were on the backfoot since its poor Friday night.

Captain Darcy Parish (103) underperformed, and in my head, I was thinking Buenos Aires would be way behind.

Enter ROB.

Of course it's ROB.

One of WXVs best big stage performers has once again lifted MASSIVELY for Buenos Aires, posting 160 to keep them in it, along with 5 other centurions.

As it stands, Pacific are 191 ahead with 2 extra played... but you could say the cavalry has already arrived for Buenos Aires, with its lesser lights having to chase down the lead AND Bont and Titchell. Pacific have the advantage... but can the likes of De Goey and Cerra bring it home for Buenos Aires?

Hold onto your hats!

Super Sunday, would like  Bont & Mitchell to combine for 200+.
McGovern needs to repay the faith after Wright cracked 90.

Holz

on track to putting up a really good score UTM.

Looks like your on track to put up one of the biggest GF scores in recent years so congrats.

Will need something special from Dillos from here

Yeah thanks, certainly would like to crack 1500.
Closing in on 1400 with a half of Bont/Mitch to go, plus whatever McLovin can score.

What an insane finish!

Doubt we'll ever see something like this in a GF again

Commiserations UTM - had a hell of a year, and have a hell of a team - just brutal to lose like this, but I'm sure you'll be here again

Congratulations iZ! Started the rebuild years ago and it's come to fruition - fantastic work mate

Well done to you both :)

Without a doubt, that was WXVs greatest ever Grand Final! I am stunned. Will Hayward, with 119 to chase for victory, was on about 60SC points at the 14th minute mark of the last quarter of the last game. He goes on to kick 2 massive goals, and lands on 115 pre-scaling. We waited, and waited, and waited... and CD discovered one of his tackles was missing! Hayward moves to 121 post-scaling, and secures Buenos Aires a REMARKABLE PREMIERSHIP VICTORY! But man, my sincere commiserations to Pacific... losing in these circumstances must be gut wrenching.

Far out, there is so much to unpack!

The Grand Final story:
- Friday night was a 2v2, but it was one-sided affair resulting in a 79 point lead to Pacific. Jarrod Berry manfully tried to carry on despite being injured in the 2nd, but succumbed to injury in the 3rd... if only he just pulled the pin earlier!
- Next, 3 Islanders took on 2 Armadillos in GWS v FRE, and the Islanders walked out slight winners mostly due to Tom Green (58) failing to fire for Buenos Aires. Armadillo Serong (100) did ton up though, and the 3 Islanders posted about 25 points shy of the players season averages.
- In North vs GCS, Islanders Witts (90) put in a solid showing, but it was AIDAN CORR (126) who posted 60 points above his season average to put the Islanders in a VERY strong position at this point. Buenos Aires needs a hero.
- Geelong v West Coast saw Islander prelim hero Duggan (91) complete his impressive finals series, but none have been more impressive than Armadillo off-season veteran recruit Shannon Hurn (120) whom amazingly posted his 4th consecutive 110+ score to end up with a 127avg over a 4 game finals series! The 2019 New Delhi premiership player and 2021 Dublin defender arguably was the recruit of the year on this feat alone!
-  Essendon v Richmond - an incredibly important fixture for Buenos Aires with Captain Parish under all sorts of pressure to perform. He would be joined by teammate Jayden Short taking on Islander Jack Ross... but again, it was Pacific whom walked out of this clash with the chocolates, with Ross posting a valuable ton - his first for the year - and Parish scored a mediocre ton (103). Short did perform though with 114.
- The next game, Adelaide/Port Adelaide, saw Pacific's most important Islander - captain Rory Laird - salute with a captains 133, somewhat supported by Tex (78) and Aliir (67). Buenos Aires are significantly behind, and need someone to lift desperately.
- Enter. ROB.
- Oh, my lord. The infamous 2019 WORLDS medallist - whom posted 181 to lead AAP to a famous against the odds victory - has once again come to his coaches rescue! The eventual BOG player scored a simply MASSIVE 160 (+62 on avg) to bring Buenos Aires back to life. I really can't believe that!
- The other Adelaide/Port Adelaide players in this match for Buenos Aires were also very important, with Buenos Aires VC Wines putting in a huge effort with 137, and along with ROB, together got Buenos Aires back in the game. Doedees 58... ensured Buenos Aires were still against the odds.
- The score after Saturday? Pacific 1254/12 vs Buenos Aires 1063/10, both captains played.
- Pacific's iconic Bont/Titchell duo were up next, and they could have put the game to bed. Alas they combined for a mediocre 198 to keep the door ever so slightly ajar (note my comment in Discord at the time that a score 200+ would be hard to chase...), and Buenos Aires 85 from Scrimshaw was solid.
- Pacific 1452/14 vs Buenos Aires 1148/11
- Carl/Coll were next, and the last Islander McGovern would go on to score 65 (in line with his season average) to round out Pacific's final score to 1517. The target was set - 370 required from Buenos Aires last 4 players.
- Ash Johnson? 34.
- Jordan De Goey? 78.
- But ADAM CERRA GOES BANG WITH 139 and WE ARE ON!
- It's Stk/Syd, and Will Hayward is the last man standing. He needs 119 to win the game, but his season average was 66 and he hasn't scored a ton in 2022.
- It's 14 minutes into the last quarter, and he's on 60.
- St Kilda and Sydney are having a close game... but don't tell me! who has scored 2 deciding goals?! IT'S WILL HAYWARD! HIS SCORE HAS SKYROCKETED PAST 100! Has he done enough?!
- The siren goes, and Will has scored 115. 100 refreshes later, and his 115 is listed GREEN in the SuperCoach website. It's over.
- OR IS IT?!
- CD FOUND A MISSED TACKLE! HAYWARD HAS SCORED 121! BUENOS AIRES HAVE WON THE MATCH! F*CK!
- The 3SC win in the closest GF margin we've ever had, beating 2020s 27 SC margin also against Pacific
- It was the 3rd highest scoring GF we've ever had.
- I cannot express my commiserations enough to Pacific. That is as tough a loss as it gets in fantasy land. I wish it wasn't the 3rd GF loss in a row... but it's still 3 GFs in a row, which is something no coach has ever done. You should be incredibly proud of the list you've managed, and your sportmanship in this thread has been outstanding. The Islanders are my team for 2023.
