Hey everyone!

This is the thread where we announce our Best & Fairests, Coaches Awards and discuss matters such as the Rising Star winner and Coach of the Year in preparation for the Awards Week! (which is essentially this week... via any spare moment I find where I have the mental energy to give it the reception it deserves).

I'd really like your Coaches Award nominee (so a player) by say Friday night, so I can send the votes out and derive a winner over the weekend. It's tight deadlines, but I rate the responsiveness of our group.

Award Nominations

1. Coach of the Year

I'll nominate this years candidates, using last years criteria to help me out:
- If you've won more games during the regular season in 2022 than 2021, you get a nomination for coach of the year. If you had the same amount of wins, but scored more overall points you get a nomination.
- A wild card nomination if I feel that a coach has had to overcome particular adversity or done something special to deserve it.

The nominations will be announced... when I send the vote out haha.

2. Coaches award

Each team can nominate a player on their team they think deserves special mention. You can use any criteria you like, it doesn't have to be the best player. Previous winners are Daniel Talia, Mark Blicavs, Matt Jaensch, Clayton Oliver, Jordan Ridley, Brodie Grundy and Sean Darcy.

Tell us why they are the recipient of your Coaches Award! The more reasons you provide, the higher the chance the comp will vote your player as the WXV 2022 Coaches Award recipient.

3. Rising Star Winner

Here are your nominations! Talk your player up over the next couple of days, and decide who you'll vote for when I send out the PM!

The follow stats have been recorded over the WXV H&A season only.

4. Best & Fairest

Who polled the most votes in your best & fairest? It can be any system you choose, but be sure to announce your  winner here so we can record their achievement for the ages :)

#1
Best and Fairest
Josh Kelly! Won with 39 votes, ahead of Parker (31), Doch (30), and Houston (29). By far the most consistently strong scorer all season long, as he should be with his pedigree.

Coaches Award
flower it, I'm changing it to Dylan Moore. Such a close race between him and every other forward, but he was just so consistently fantastic all season, increasing his average by 20-points from solid young player to elite forward. Fun fact - Toronto bidding on Jarrod Garlett at NAT 26 in 2017 (who went on to play 13 games and average 45 across two seasons), gave me said NAT 26 to be used on one Dylan Moore (and also let me keep NAT34 instead of using it on the bid to take Patrick Naish). Stonks.

Best and fairest: Parish, cant be bothered working it out but we all saw how shower Dillos was without parish...
Coaches award: Shannon Hurn, 104 average, one of my most consistent performers this year, including a 137, 110, 139 during finals has been instrumental in the BA success so far

It was a rough year for NY, especially on the injury front, but there were 2 players in particular who really stood up and performed week in week out

Bailey Dale and Mark Blicavs were absolute pillars in defence, and showed up every week and performed

Neither player missed a game, and neither player very rarely put up a sub 85 score - just super consistent premo scoring and for those reasons NY has a joint B&F winner for the first in our club history

New York Best & Fairest Award Winners: Bailey Dale & Mark Blicavs

It was always going to be a really tough year for the forward line at New York once Jack Darling missed most of the preseason and Jed Anderson missed a large chunk of the season, but there was 1 player who showed up from Round 1, gave it his all every week, didn't miss a game and really grew as a player. He came to us from another club over the summer, and has been super impressive from the moment he stepped foot in the club

Increasing his average by 10ppg from last year, we think this young man has a very bright future and is only going to get better, and that's why Brad Close is being nominated for our Coaches Award

New York Coaches Award Winner: Brad Close

Mexico City Suns Best & Fairest Comp (Finals included);

Petracca started the season perfectly with 2 best of ground performances, but would fade out for the next 4 weeks, but come back strong with
3 polling weeks in the final 4 games including 2 best of grounds.
Walsh's consistency would see him poll in 11 of the 19 games with 2 best on ground performances.
LDU a surprise packet this year, polling in 5 matches and being very consistent throughout the year.
Sicily starred while Hall was in and out of the team, polling in 10 of the 19 games.
Shai Bolton yo-yo scoring seen him poll in 3 games with 2 being best on ground.

5.  Luke Davies-Uniacke (7)
4. Shai Bolton (8)
3. James Sicily (19)
2. Christian Petracca (20)
1. Sam Walsh (21)

Winner;
Sam Walsh

Coaches Award;

Luke Davies-Uniacke a player I had thoughts of trading last season because of his ability to not score consistently. Seen him get 10 tons in 20 games with 8
coming in the last 10 games. And jump over 15 PPG in average.

Kate Best & Fairest: Callum Mills
Man just keeps getting better and better. Took another leap this year to average 118, with 15 hundos, 9 of which were 120+. Super reliable as captain, and always among the better performers in the team.

Kate Coaches Award: Do I even have to say it? Chadley obviously takes this one. We missed Cunnington for the whole season, and JOM dropped off, so someone needed to step up in the midfield. Enter Chadley, lifting his average by 29ppg from 69 to 98, with 10 hundos, 6 of which were 110+. Also delivered Buddy his 1000th goal and is an absolute treat to watch and you can't say otherwise.

Beijing

Best & Fairest:

To no surprise Lachie Neale runs away with the B/F, scoiring more than double of second place, shared between Rome Recruits Coniglio and Hawkins. Zorko, Ellis and Heppell round out the top 5, with a tie for 5th place. Grundy finished 7th, just one point behind despite only playing 6 games this season, and star player Milo selflessly brings up the rear with a big 1 point for his domination of Gold Coast.

Top 10:

Lachie Neale - 68
Stephen Coniglio - 32
Tom Hawkins - 32
Dayne Zorko - 23
Brandon Ellis - 16
Dyson Heppell - 16
Brodie Grundy - 15
Dylan Shiel - 13
Jeremy Howe - 13
David Swallow - 12

Coaches Award - Stephen Coniglio
It's not Dylan Shiel like Purps wanted, and Lachie Neale is too obvious a pick, but Coniglio is worthy of this award in my opinion. After a shocking 2021 season, Coniglio was someone I was interested in picking up after Rome made him available. He wasn't a bargain pickup, but for what he's produced this year (100+ avg as a forward) I think he was definitely a steal and a big part of Beijing making finals, evidenced by his equal second place finish with Tom Hawkins, another former Rome player.

London

It was another tough year for London with Dom Sheed and Orazio Fantasia nominally in best xv not playing a game.

Obviously the stand out for the year was Captain Touk Miller who was BOG in 8 games and polled votes in all other games. English suffered an injury causing him to miss 7 games but still managed to finish 3rd in B & F.

Final Best and Fairest Count
1. Touk Miller 60 votes
2. Adam Saad 37 Votes
3. Tim English 27 Votes
4. Nick Hind 20 votes
5. Willem Drew 18 votes.

Coaches award goes to Adam Saad who gave us excellent service of half back lifting his ppg by 15 this year and being ever reliable in the back 4.

Karen B&F:

=5th: TJ Lynch & Jordan Clark
4th: Braydon "Joocy" Preuss
3rd: Nick Vlastuin
2nd Tom Stewart
2022 Best and Fairest: Hugh McCluggage

Ultimately, a down patch of form by his consistent standards looked to cost Clugg the major prize, but a Tom Stewart suspension at a very untimely period proved costly for both Karen's finals and Stewie's B&F ambitions - congrats to Clugga!

Karen Coaches Award: This was a bloody tough three-way race let me tell ya between three offseason recruits in Braydon Preuss, Ed Richards and Jordan Clark, but I have to give it to Jordan Clark for being a consistent contributor, averaging career best numbers and just being reliable for a good score most weeks while a bunch of other mids (looking at you Taylor Adams) were less so.

Coaches Award:

Izak Rankine. Went from looking like a disaster by starting the season with a 40 average capped by a single digit full game then went 85 in the next 12 games to be my best fwd.

Xerri would have got the award if not for the injury.

Toronto Wolves

Best & Fairest
Merely a formality at this point, Jack Macrae claims another Best & Fairest with another stellar season.

Coaches Award
Averaging 89 over the course of our season, Nathan Broad took another big leap and continues to provide exceptional value.

Church B&F Top 5 (5-4-3-2-1 system)

48 - George Hewett
40 - Sean Darcy
25 - Rory Lobb
24 - Mason Redman
20 - Callum Wilkie

Coaches Award - Mason Redman, the only acceptable man bun in the AFL. Mason boosted his average this year by 20ppg, and averaged 120 after the WXV bye until he got crunched in the final round. Truly now an out and out premium. Not bad for Pick 13, eh?

Rory Laird -  Has been outstanding all year, well deserved win.

Coaches award
Rory Laird, 127 avg.  A great consistent Captain option each week.

Best and Fairest - Top 5
Brad Crouch 26
Daniel Rich 16
Jack Viney 15
Isaac Cumming 15
Jeremy Finlayson 11

Congrats to Brad Crouch who wins the award! We've got a very even squad, I was intrigued to see how this ended up. Brad has had an outstanding season :)

Coaches Award
This is a very very tough award to give out, I love all my players (Yes, even him). This man is also new to the club, he also has improved his average by 17 points from 2021. But the main selling point to this man was where he top scored for the team twice in finals, first in the QF and then two weeks later when given the captaincy in the PF. He's averaged 101.6 in the role he has picked up in the second half of this year, I speak of course of my favourite player in the AFL Jeremy Finlayson!
