Finals Week One

IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ

AFL teams will be announcing their teams at 6:20pm AEST on Thursday (Wednesday for Thursday night games)
Sunday teams are confirmed at 5pm AEST on Friday (Saturday for Monday games)

We WILL NOT be using a partial lockout, please read the rule below.

You are encouraged to name your full team at the start of the round and edit accordingly as teams drop each day. I understand this is not possible for everyone, hence why it would be preferred that people name their full team to begin with.

If you make any edits to your team, please do so in a new 'quote' post.

There is no loopholing allowed in ADT

- With Fri-Sun games back, you can name four (4) emergencies.

- In the event a coach either submits an incomplete team or fails to submit a team at all without contacting the admin, they will receive a warning/strike and their submission from last week will be used. Penalties for this can be found in the rules post (no sacking coaches because we barely have enough as is). It's finals so I hope this doesn't happen

Friday night FULL LOCKOUT at 8.10pm AEST

- Teams are to be posted in this format only

C: Player name
VC: Player name
EVC: Player name

D: x, x, x, x
M: x, x, x, x, x, x
R: x
F: x, x, x, x
I: x, x, x

Emergencies: x, x, x, x (any position, in preference order)

- HGA for the first team named in the fixture and is the lowest scoring player (raw score) on field.
- C is worth x2 and VC is worth x1.5
- OOP Players are worth 50% of their total score

It's an intriguing finals line-up this season, with both grand finalists from 2021 failing to make the cut! Though of the top 6 last season, the other four teams have managed to place again, those being Arizona, Springfield, Dallas and Los Angeles, while Washington and Bermuda have appeared from the wilderness to take finals places in a great turnaround from the 2021 season!

In terms of premiership chances, one team stands above the rest, as Dallas hit the ground at full pelt and never slowed down, aside from a tactical breather in round 18. They boast an unbeaten record and a filthy percentage of 113.54 as they cruised and bruised the rest of the competition. They had just 3 scores below 1700 which is an amazing effort, though they'll be hoping last weeks performance was just a flash in the pan. They are the team to beat, and that's not my bias showing!

However, while Dallas has by far been the best team, Arizona were the second horse in the home and away race, losing just 3 times (twice to Dallas) which cements their position as a clear #2. They boast some serious firepower when it all clicks together, and at this stage are the biggest challenger to the Dallas dream. I imagine we'll be seeing these two teams clash again in the big dance, but weirder things have happened...

Rounding out the top 4, we have LA and Washington. LA loomed large early, but dropped the ball, and their top 2 chances midseason. They boast the talent, but can they make waves in the finals? On the other side we have Washington! At 0-6 you'd be forgive for thinking a bottom 2 finish was locked in, but they went on a run of dreams, going 9-3 to end the season and snatch 4th place at the death! They've captured my heart, and I'm hoping they can have some impact this finals series!

And finally, Springfield and Bermuda round out the top 6. Springfield didn't look like they were gonna make finals at one point, as their percentage has been sub 100 basically all season, but several clutch wins has gotten the Isotopes into this finals series, not dissimilar to the Pies in the real deal. Their hopes rest on their captain Rory Laird who has been smashing out big scores recently. He keeps it up, and they're a shot. While for Bermuda, it was looking like top 4 early on, but as it is they've hung onto 6th. A very volatile lineup, they have the players to match the best, but their worst is nowhere near the required level. It's not impossible, but very unlikely.

All in all, this should be a pretty good finals series (especially if Dallas choke, which is inevitable) with every side a decent shot to take home the prize!

Premiership Prediction: Dallas

Scores after Saturday wooo

Dallas 1700/16 (C & VC played) vs Arizona 1023/12 (C played)

I would go far as to say this match is over, with Dallas already achieving what would be an excellent score with 2 players to come. I expect this total to be over 1800 by Sunday, off the back of Errol Gulden's piggery. Arizona faltered this week, demonstrated by captain Jack Macrae's first score under 75 in almost 3 years! Not technically impossible is VC Miller goes bananas, but the difference may be too much to overcome.

Los Angeles 1513/15 (C & VC played) vs Washington 1145/11 (VC played)

This game is very very even so far, with Washington holding advantage courtesy of captain Clugg in the wings. His opposite number for LA in Chad Warner was tagged heavily by Washington's own Lachie Ash to drag his captaincy score down to a paltry 65 and give the Senators a real look at this W! Can you write this stuff?

Springfield 1241/12 (C & VC played) vs Bermuda 1094/12 (VC played)

This is a very delicately poised game. Laird and Marshall snouted it up on Saturday, but Newman's injury affected 19 brought them crashing back down to earth. For Bermuda, a bold vice captaincy call on Sam Berry backfired, but a big push from Neale tomorrow has them right in the hunt. Could go either way and I'm excited to see who stays alive in 2022!

Finals Week One

Gulden Hits Gold for Dallas
Dallas Coyotes (1936) defeated Arizona Scorpions (1730)

The occasion called for a statement and Dallas definitely delivered on that front! A whopping 1936 to get past Arizona who were no slouches themselves! Gulden's 155 was the stuff of pig legend and guided them home, with captaincy pair Mills and Walsh also scoring 110+. Arizona's midfield failed to fire this week and they paid the price, particularly with captain Macrae's lowest score in over 2 years, though it wouldn't have mattered much such was Dallas' strength on the day. Arizona get another home final next week while Dallas put the legs up for a well deserved rest.

Home Ground Advantage LA's King
Los Angeles Kings (1875) defeated Washington Isotopes (1829)

LA emerge victorious over Washington by just 46 points! Coincidentally, that's the exact same score that Charlie Curnow dished up for the Kings. Yes, Washington and LA were actually EQUAL on raw scores, with LA's HGA getting them the victory, not sure what the procedure for a draw would be, but it would probably go to LA anyway. Warner's captaincy flop (helped by Washington's own Lachie Ash applying the clamps) kept the door open for the Senators who performed strongly on Sunday, but a late out to Coniglio and an injury to Caldwell probably cost them a victory. It's not over yet for Washington, who will now take on the winner of Springfeild/Bermuda in an elimination final. LA's reward is to clash with Arizona away from home, but stay away from elimination risk for now.

Volatile Isotopes Ice Bermuda
Springfield Isotopes (1845) defeated Bermuda (1644)

It was a game of highs and lows for Springfield, who were led by monster scores by Marshall (163), Redman (139) and Laird (130), but also carried low scores from Newman, Selwood and Battle. However, the cream rose to the top for the Isotopes who won handily against the maligned Sharks. A Berry VC call was bold, and backfired, while there were simply too many passengers to give Bermuda a chance, though they had 5 100+ scores of their own. Bermuda drop out of finals in 6th, when a top 4 spot seemed inevitable earlier on, while Springfield move onto their next hurdle as they look to claim an unlikely flag.
