Captain Loophole

I've always gone for a full team of playing rooks and backed myself in for captain selection, in saying that taken full advantage of the loophole as I gain non playing rooks throughout the season.

Interested to see if its a common / popular strategy to deliberately pick a non playing rook right off the bat to give you the loophole.

Typically I would always go with a non playing R3, given there is usually none with worthwhile cash generation anyway.

This year is a bit different though given the rookie rucks available who are likely to play. Still undecided about whether to start a non playing rookie. At the moment I have Flynn at R3 and Briggs at either F8 or D8. This is with a view that at least one of them always plays and the other becomes an early round loophole.

GWS play after some obvious VC choices such as Grundy or Neale till round 6.

I'm taking the cash gen early, especially if there is an available rookie ruck since they can make a boatload of coin. Pittonet allowed me to make a couple of handy upgrades pretty easily last year with the cash he made.

The Briggs plan is pretty good, worth considering, the only hitch may be clogging up D8 for future cash gen, particularly if Flynn nails down the spot. You probably want to get him to F8 in due course.

M11 could be a goer, Aiden Fyfe who has the defence DPP, handy for looping with Laird if someone like Kosi does well.

This year I’m going to try my best to start a full team.

I think that there will be a plethora of rookies that start the year and are dropped by round 3-4 so I’ll back myself in for the first few rounds and then have a VC loophole from one of my rookies that gets dropped.

Starting a non player it's a small price to pay at getting a chance at extra double points for your Captain.

So true, but also if an emergency player scores well well enough to loophole

Just going Gawn captain until multiple rookies are dropped in the same round

I've made a write up on my Top 3 loophole options if anyone wants to check it out.

I am thinking of using either Jack Saunders or Lachlan Bramble both from Hawks and both with M/F DPP so very handy there as well.  Both cost $102k so minimum price for M9.

Basic reason initially is Hawks 5 Sunday Games and a Saturday evening game in the first 6 rounds. , Gawn to Neal, Any Dogs players to whoever.

So decision is basically points v cash generation for these initial rounds,

Bramble is within the realm of selection Ringo. Clarko loves him. Go for Saunders

Very nice write up, I’ve never actually purposely picked a loophole candidate to start the season (other than a ruck 3 with fwd duality), personally think you’re far better off with a 30 man (or close to) roster playing, as most times there’s gonna be someone missing on a Saturday night / Sunday anyway. but I did enjoy your write up, very nice work.

Out of them, it’d be comben for me, but I’m going to try and get a playing r3 this season with all the options

Cheers lads, to be honest us SuperCoach tragics put so many hours into this every pre-season I thought I may as well make it worth while with the pages. Appreciate it :)
