After Carl/Bris

Seoul catch-up with Pacific a little more, with Jarryd Lyons (63) and Zac Bailey (55) failing to fire. Lyons in particular is a great result for Seoul.

But, Ed Curnow (85) only did 'meh', and Marc Murphy failed to go on with it after the first quarter.

Seoul desperately need AT LEAST one of Bont or Titch to go mediocre. Pacific still with the advantage, but Seoul has caught up somewhat.

Next up

A big game coming up in Hawthorn v Gold Coast.

For Seoul, they will need Weller, McEvoy, Ceglar and Shiels to at least score their averages. Shiels in particular presents as a danger, with an ability to throw in a shocker with 15, 20 and 40 scored at occasions this year.

But it's a much more important game for Pacific, with CC Titch, Witts and potential homewrecker Tim O'Brien (assuming Wright doesn't play). With an average of 54 for the year, O'Brien has the greatest potential to match Haynes' 34, but conversely turn Pacific's greatest weaknesses into a strength if he is able to reach his 2020 season high score of 92. If he does that... Pacific probably goes on with it, I reckon!

Ruck vs Ruck   c'mon Wittsy

Jenkins probably won't play either, so Sam Day joins O'Brien to come in.
Not a good start from any of the Islanders.  Might come down to  'In Bont We Trust'

After Hawks/Suns

A fairly even contest, but I think I give Pacific the chocolates.

The importance of Tom Mitchell (130) going well cannot be understated, and I think he makes up for the other misfiring Islanders. Yes, Witts (59) was well under par, and the Sam Day (41) lets Haynes off the hook, but Tim O'Brien getting his second highest score of the year (76) was huge.

For Seoul, Ceglar (64) and McEvoy (59) let Seoul down I think, Weller (86) did well enough, but the big win was Shiels (119), not only avoiding a potential coach killing score, but contributing in a big way.

The Islanders up by 37 points with effectively half a player extra played. What a game!

In play

WXVs champion Patrick Dangerfield is absolutely killing Seoul right now, and desperately needs to salvage at least an 80! At least!

Tuohy also could do with a lift... starting to panic for Seoul.

No players currently playing for Pacific.

Imagine Pacific win the GF with a F2-F4 of Tim O'Brien, Sam Day and Tom McCartin  :o

After Syd/Geel/Dogs/Freo

DANGERFIELD!

What an absolutely incredible second half! Earlier I said Seoul would need 160 between Danger & Tuohy to be competitive, but then Danger went BANG with 170!

Taberner was also a late out... but as soon as news came through, McCartin lifted and salvaged a 63 for Pacific. But it was the Bont that the Islanders needed more from - now all out for 1385.

The equation is now simple for Seoul. Charlie Dixon (94 avg) and Elliott (68) need to combine for 116 points for an historic Seoul victory. The odds now firmly in Seoul's favour.

Honestly, I was watching this game closely and it all dramatically changed within 10 minutes when Danger started kicking goals, and then Taberner was a late out. The betting odds would have shifted dramatically in that time!

Dixon & Elliott have played in the same AFL round on 13 occasions this year.

They have combined for less than 115 in 3 of those occasions, and a minimum of 101

upthemaidens

1st quarter Danger does nothing.   Half way through the 3rd, game is toast.

...IF both Dixon and Elliot don't play, the bench Scott and Fogerty will only be 110 pts.  There's still hope...

Purple 77

A slow start to Dixon (15) & Elliott (6), currently behind the required 29 points per quarter pace.

Purple 77

Goals to both Dixon and Elliott see them on 88 at HT! A very big quarter.

Only 28 points to go.

upthemaidens

Elliott knock to head, will he play on.

A historic win for the Seoul Magpies! A massive congratulations to JBs-Hawks on leading the Seoul Magpies to its first ever premiership win!

Where do I begin! I suppose with the biggest achievement of them all:
- Seoul become the first ever minor premiers to win the premiership, breaking the 9 year curse which has claimed so many gun sides before them!
- Obviously, this makes Seoul the first ever team to take out the Idol, minor premiership and the flag all in 1 year
- JBs flag was almost 8 years in the making, having first come runner-up to Dublin in 2017
- Two players remain on Seoul's list since JB took over from January 2013, and both formed part of the winning XV! One being Ben McEvoy, and the other...
- PATRICK DANGERFIELD! WHAT A GAME! The best-afield WXVs champion singlehandedly turned the game in Seoul's favour mid-way through Sunday afternoon with a STUNNING 140 point second half. Seoul were looking dead in the water at that point, and it is only fitting that its favourite sun led them to its historic premiership win.
- Seoul started very slowly, courtesy of Nick Haynes 34' and quickly found itself 100 points down having 3 players play from each team. However, they steadied with a solid performance from its Captain Clarry and trusty sidekick Salem, whilst Pacific continued to leave the door open with sub-standard scores namely from Lyons, Witts and Hurley. Seoul found themselves catching up, but with Bontempelli waiting in the wings, they needed Danger to build a buffer and... the rest is history.
- Although we've had higher scoring GFs in the past, this game was still an absolute stunner, coming down to Charlie Dixon & Jamie Elliott requiring 116 points between them to chase down Pacific in the last game of the round.
- 10 centurions took part in the match (5 a-piece). Although Pacific's Jim Stynes medallist Tom Mitchell flew the flag for the Islanders, it was Seoul's Jim Stynes medallist whom was undoubtedly the difference.
- Jake Riccardi makes his WXV debut on the biggest (socially-distanced) stage of them all! He did pretty well too, scoring 76!
- The Islanders pay the price up forward, needing 3 developing forwards from its emergencies to carry the load. Although performing admirably, it's clear Pacific's greatest weakness (its forward line) ultimately cost them the match.
- Pacific registered its first score below 144 in 7 rounds at the worst possible time, its maiden GF appearance
