Hey everyone!  :)

This is the thread where we announce our Best & Fairests, Coaches Awards and discuss matters such as the Rising Star winner and Coach of the Year in preparation for the Awards Week*.

I'd really like your Coaches Award nominee (so a player) by say Wednesday morning, so I can send the votes out and derive a winner by the end of the week. Apologies for being so late with this!

Award Nominations

1. Coach of the Year

I'll nominate this years candidates, using last years criteria to help me out:
- If you've won more games during the regular season in 2020 than 2019, you get a nomination for coach of the year. If you had the same amount of wins, but scored more overall points you get a nomination.
- A wild card nomination if I feel that a coach has had to overcome particular adversity or done something special to deserve it.

The nominations will be announced sometime this week!

2. Coaches award

Each team can nominate a player on their team they think deserves special mention. You can use any criteria you like, it doesn't have to be the best player. Previous winners are Daniel Talia, Mark Blicavs, Matt Jaensch, Clayton Oliver and Brodie Grundy.

Tell us why they are the recipient of your Coaches Award! The more reasons you provide, the higher the chance the comp will vote your player as the WXV 2020 Coaches Award recipient.

3. Rising Star Winner

Here are your nominations! Talk your player up over the next couple of days, and decide who you'll vote for when I send out the PM!

The following stats have been recorded over the WXV H&A season only, and also include duplicates for simultaneous rounds:

My coaches award...

A different angle for me this year, but I just gotta give it to Max. Too many times this year he carried Berlin to just being competitive at times, and I'm just incredibly lucky to have him. He's a star.

Holz

Todd Goldstein is my best and fairest

Robbie Tarrant coaches award

iZander

Coaches award - Andrew Brayshaw, taken his average from 70 to 103 and done it as one of my few forwards! A few can consider themselves a bit unlucky including Caleb Serong :P

Toronto - Coaches' Award
Travis Boak

Every time I want to write this guy off, he turns it up another notch. He is 32 years of age, yet just had his best ever season average of 110. Hasn't missed a game and it couldn't be more impressive in a season with such short turnarounds.

Nige

Coaches' Award has to go to my boy Hugh Greenwood, a consistent player who played every game and put up career best numbers in terms of SC average.

Spoiler alert, but the BnF for Karen is Taylor Adams, polled in all but one game.

In a year of carnage for NY there were 3 players who constantly performed and carried the team

The winner of our B&F is none other than Jack Steele, with his whopping 121 avg and breakout to elite prem status

The Coaches Award was a clear 2 horse race. Special mention must be made to Jed Anderson who has averaged just shy of 100 - pretty remarkable for someone I picked up in the Nat Draft with Pick 66 a few years ago, but the winner of our Coaches Award goes to none other than Cam Guthrie

Guthrie hasn't missed a game, and has averaged a career high 103.

I'm sure the team at Pacific would be kicking themselves after letting him depart last year, but he's been a glowing light in what has been a disappointing year at NY

Congratulations to Jack and Cam!

Though he could take both awards,  Jarryd Lyons  is the Islanders Best and Fairest.
Improving his average to 114+ and turning him into a true premium.

Coaches award goes to  Harry Perryman,  went from mid 70s to 90+ avg.  playing mainly as a defender.
Special mentions to  Williams, Bailey, McPherson and Corr, all stepping up another level this year.

Ringo

Londons Best and Fairest is Touk Miller and deservedly so given he really stood up as Captain and lifted his average score from 84 to 105.

Coaches award was a little difficult with a number of players lifting this year,  However this award goes to Timothy English who improved his average from 80 to 100.  Special mention to Jack Lukosious who broke out as a defender this year.

Toga

Beijing's B&F goes to our one and only Lachie Neale with his season average of 139. Incredible season edging out Brodie Grundy and Caleb Daniel on the podium.

Coaches award goes to Jy Simpkin. Probably seen as the "steak knives" in our cap-shedding trade of Ollie Wines last year he bumped up his average to a very respectable 90 this year. Simpkin edges out much-improved excitement machine Dan Butler.

GoLions

There were a few guys who put their hand up for Kate's coaches award this year:
- Callum Mills finally had his breakout year (after being enquired about every year and I've always said he was ready to break out at any moment ;D), lifting his avg from 82 to 101ppg and becoming Kate's #1 scoring defender.
- Luke McDonald showed some promising signs in 2017, but fell off a cliff since then. After Rd7 he was averaging 63, with only 2 scores over 60. Since then, he has averaged 117, with only 3 scores under 100 (95, 94, 84), and some biiig hundos, to bring his season avg to 93 and locking down a starting spot in Kate's defence.
- Sam Collins is the lesser known of Kate's defence, but he's a guy i backed a few years ago who showed a lot of promise until being delisted by Freo. He then tore it up in the VFL and was picked up by the Suns, and rejoining my list. He boosted his avg this year from 60 to 81, and locking in the D4 spot down back, intercepting everything that came his way.

But the winner, and call it recency bias if you must, is Sam MeneGOAT. He had prior years of premo scoring, but dropped off quite heavily in 2019 and seemed to have fallen out of favour at the Cattery, playing only 9 games and averaging 81. I took a risk and traded pick 9 for him in the off-season, and scores of 35 and 55 (injured) in the first 3 rounds meant i was worried I'd made a huge mistake. However, after that, he has gone under 100 only 3 times (including a 97), averaging 116 in that time. He has shown a massive ceiling as well, with 3 scores over 150, including a match winning semi final performance in which he scored 193, in a game that seemed all but over.

Congrats MeneGOAT!

Mark Blicavs becomes a 2-time Compo medallist, and also is my nomination for the coaches award.

I don't think there's a player who is more deserving of becoming the first to achieve the honour of being a two-time WXV coaches award recipient. Blitz has stuck with Christchurch through a fairly bleak period, and has stood up for us as captain time and time again when the rest of the team lacked that slight bit of consistency or scoring power, despite playing roles not usually conducive to premium SuperCoach scoring. He also almost single-handedly won us 2 games this year with huge scores. Hell, he's even taken the burden of going into the ruck for us once again, and averaged a remarkable 100 for the year, with only TWO scores under 84. No matter when it occurs, he will leave Christchurch as a true legend of the club.

for PNL

Best & Fairest is = A tie

Between Zach Merret & Luke Ryan
Merrett took his average to new heights of 115 making him a permanent captain option
Ryan took his average to 106 making him a true premo defender being 3rd highest average of all defenders

Coaches award goes to
Ben Keays

From being looking like career could be over to an average of 81 as a fwd
which made him a very handy F4

Boomz

Coaches award: Jordan Ridley, went from a fringe player averaging 66 to 104 and led my defence consistently for the whole year.
