Have created my first team of the year.

Def: R. Laird, J. Crisp, B. Smith, H. Young, M. Frederick, T. Bianco (N. Murphy, B. Rowles)
Mid: J. Macrae, P. Cripps, P. Dangerfield, A. Treloar, C. Oliver, M. Rowell, N McHenry, M. Pickett (B. Starcevich, T. Brown, W. Golds)
Ruc: B. Grundy, M. Gawn (C. Comben)
Fwd: L. Whitfield, D. Martin, J. De Goey, S. Hill, J. Brander, I. Rankine (D. Cameron, M. King)

Cash Left: 14,200

Obviously most of the rookies are place fillers at this stage given we haven't seen anything of them as yet.

As far as the premiums go, I'm pretty much loading up with set and forget rucks and a strong midfield, given this is where the strongest scorers.  For me Laird is the most consistent premium defender across seasons, whilst it's hard to pass up Whitfield and Martin with the DPP status to the forward line. I've also tried to throw a few PODs in.

Depending on pre-season form, I'm considering looking at ways to bring in a couple more expensive rookies / cheapies like Cockatoo, Anderson, Sier or Bonar but I want to see them play before I change my premiums to try and get the cash to bring them in.

Outside of the backline everything else seems to be pretty standard

I'd look at rejigging things, because the odds of 4 123k def rookies playing is pretty slim

Not sure Crisp and Smith are good picks either - if they're personal favourites of yours then go with one if you must, but I'd want someone more solid/proven alongside Laird - Docherty seems like a glaring omission

JDG is an interesting pick. Not someone I'd consider, but again he could be a nice pod

Thanks for the feedback.  My hesitation on Docherty is that he hasn't played in two years and he's still going to cost over $400k.  And players coming back from that type of injury don't always come back in the best form.  I'd want to see what he brings to the pre-season before I'd lock him in.  If he was priced around the same as Devon Smith I'd go with him because you can afford for him to be a little off or take some time to find form, but at over $400k I'd be looking for him to hit the ground running.

The thing with Docherty is that 95% of serious players will start him. If he fails then 95% of people are in the same boat and your not too far away from the pack, if he goes crazy and you don't have him your a long way being 95% of players.

He isn't one Id be taking a risk on not starting.
