Mat0369

Quick 1st draft of my team. I'll work around the rookies once I start seeing them play but I'm not unhappy with the structure.

RaisyDaisy

Think you might have a hard time maintaining that structure - 4 cheap def rookies is looking very unlikely

Mat0369

Hill is certain to play round 1 unless he gets injured so I'm locking him into D4. After that I need 4 of Young, McAsey, Williamson, Rivers, Starcevich, Gould, Ling, Stoddart, Bianco and Ash.

You also have Ben McKay with Tarrant missing some time but his scoring will likely be awful.

Plus there are always a few surprises in pre-season so the rookies will change.

Most of those guys aren't cheap rookies though - you'll need to make sacrifices elsewhere to get the funds to get them

Bianco is next to no chance from what I've read, and Rivers seems to be very popular but I can't understand why

Hopefully we get a few surprises like you say

Decent enough starting point to work from when we know who's playing.  Nic Nat is a high risk high reward as his goal is to play every game this season, not sure what the coaching staff/docs think about that though.  Hell prob be dragged kicking and screaming for a rest at least once or twice this season if he indeed stays healthy.

Sven

Pretty similar to my current team, just defense is different.

As you've said, the side will change when we get to know some of the rookies better throughout the pre-season matches, but looks good.

Best of luck during the season!  :)

Identical structure to me, very similar team in fact,so hard to fault.
Instead of Lloyd/Howe/Kelly/Steven I've got Sicily/Houston/Macrae/Wingard

Nic Nat such great value, need to take a risk somewhere to have the balance across all lines.
Kelly too injury prone and Lloyd unless regaining kick ins too expensive imo.

Wingard could become Steven for me depending on who is looking more likely for mid time

Howe is a decent POD

Mat0369

Lloyd has had back to back seasons where he has finished as the top defender. He dropped from a 112 average to a 109 average, however his numbers all went up and he had less games in which he didn't hit the ton. These were his scores under 100

Round 8 - 83
Round 15 - 62
Round 19 - 88
Round 20 - 85
Round 21 - 85
Round 22 - 89

He is pretty damn consistent and he will take the majority of the kick outs which sees him have that high floor.

I have some other drafts that I have been mucking around with. The team I posted is basically from when SC opened. I have been mucking around with some different combos including Ceglar at R2 to maximise my keepers and one just pure guns and rookies.

I started Lloyd last year and he was awesome.
His scores in last part of the year declined, it seemed someone else was kicking in more (can't remember who now) so that's my main concern with him. Does this continue or will he be the main kicker again?

Lloyds scores declined when Dawson started playing back there iirc.

Mat0369

Dawson moved to HB Round 14. The Gold Coast game was at the back end of the year but he had his lowest disposal count of the season that game and backed that up a couple weeks later with a 42 touch game. I think that particular game was more Lloyd sucking compared to Dawson hurting him. He had a 98.5 average from when Dawson moved to HB, but he also averaged 102.25 in the last 8. It was a bit of a dip, but it still puts him top 3 with his high floor. I still prefer him to just about every defender not named Docherty.

Mat0369

So the rookies are pretty trash by the looks of it. All the ones that looked decent in Marsh 1 barely got a run in Marsh 2. I have made some adjustments and I might end up rolling with this come R1.

Doc and Howe are my two keepers down back. Noble looks to be the best of the back rookies but comes at a premium price. Ash/Zerk-Thatcher could both flop, Watson is maybe a D8 at best and Williams has a chance to be Nic Nat's back up so I'll go with him in that D6 spot. Gould looked excellent but I unfortunately think Lewy Taylor's performance today will keep him out. Williamson is the other defensive rookie I'm keeping an eye on.

I had to cull Neale down to Danger to be able to turn Starcevich into Zerk-Thatcher. I have gone 6 deep in the  midfield because this looks like an absolute mess for rookies. Rowell and Green both look the goods, but after that Pickett has job security but may not be a scorer, Robertson and Budarick may not play and I wouldn't want to even field them.

Grundy and Nic Nat seems the go for the rucks. Yeah I could drop down to Sauce for more cash, but I don't like Sauce as an option. Gawn is obviously choice 1 but I feel Nic Nat as a stepping stone helps me capitalise points so I can start 6 premo mids.

Forward line I have done some juggling around. I was running with 3 forwards over 400k, Dev and Steven at one point, but I found the cash by turning Lloyd into Howe to grab the uber mid instead. I think that is 99% the forward line I will run with. Only change might be Brander to the backs, Budarick forward and a rookie mid in if there is one.

Guys I have been looking at but sacrificed for structure.

Lloyd - I had him locked in at D1 for the majority of the pre-season.

Neale - Turned him into Danger to free up cash for rookies

Toby Greene - Ultimate burn man but if I'm picking a forward in the 500k bracket that I am confident will finish top 10 sans Dusty, Whitfield and Walters it's him. Has looked great all pre-season

Petracca - Looked ready to break out. I really want to start him, but I'm not moving on any of Whitfield, Martin, Steven and Dev.

Brayshaw - Could have a third year break out and average 90ish. Tempting but see the others.

Ceglar - Number 1 ruck looks interesting in that he provides ruck cover as well. That DPP is the reason to pick him above the others.

TMac - If I need to go 5 forwards deep he is one of the mid 300k mid price options I'm considering

Acres - Hamstring injury is the cross

If I am starting to get desperate these guys present value

Fort - Could be the number 1 ruck at the Cats and is under 300k. Looked pretty mobile against the Bombers and would be a break glass in case of emergency kind of guy

Narkle - Instead of spending 300k on a forward, I could grab Narkle as a mid stepping stone. Spent a hell of a lot of time in the CB's in both games. Once Selwood and Duncan are back that could change, but under 400k and averaged over the ton in 3 games last year. Possibly a breakout.

Ed Curnow - Under 500k and had big numbers when he moved back into the midfield when Teague took over last year.

Gaff/Yeo - Under 600k prems I see benefiting from the Kelly/Nic Nat inclusions.

Gibbs - 90 average at his price isn't out of the question

Rowbottom - Looks to be playing predominantly through the guts. Don't know if he averages enough to be a keeper.

Vandenberg/Butler/Shultz - Forwards upwards of 200k that should have spots if they aren't injured and could get cash gen rolling with some 90's. Probably would look at them in the order of Shultz/Vandenberg/Butler

Probably some others I'm missing as well.

Ringo

Nice Team Matt.

Most teams seem to be running with Rowell, Green and Pickett as m6 - M8 so if you need to strengthen other lines will not lose ground.

Prefer to see Noble at D4 but your team and ho with gut,

For what it is worth reckon Starcevich, Robertson, Ah Chee will be vying for last position at Lions.

Good luck and team no doubt will change when we get final teams next week.

Hippo

yeah I like this team, not a fan of 2 fwd rookie starters this yr, but you could have the right balance

really like the Howe pick, I have placed him in my team also after looking into him - last 9 games played avg over 100, yet priced at just under 80. now thats bloody good value.

Money Shot

I also am a massive fan of the Howe pick. Could easily go 90+ this year and that screams value.
