I feel if one of gawn/grundy start the year off slow (which may not happen) and if one of these mid price ruckmen can start the year on fire it may be a huge pod move.
Gawn & Grundy did start round 1 slow with 2 scores in the 80s, didn't worry me one bit. Might be the case this year too, especially with Gawn's injury worries, but won't take them long and pick up where they left off last year. Understand why people are picking Naismith, but for me GG all the way!

I really can't find a way to fit both Gawn and Grundy in with the structure I want to roll with, so Naismith has entered R2 for me.

His draw is actually pretty favourable for a ruckman too:

Adelaide (O'Brien)
Essendon (Phillips?)
Suns (underdone Witts?)
Carlton (Kreuzer)
GWS (Jacobs)

Doesn't face Gawn or Grundy until after the bye.

I'm rolling with Nic Nat at R2 now, Ceglar at F2 for the DPP.  Just like the look of my team better.

For all of you that plan on starting NN, consider this your warning

"This is the first year where he's had nine weeks (of training) … we've managed his loads but the base is there," Simpson said.

"In terms of when he needs a rest, he probably will and his body will tell us, rather than (planning and saying), 'Righto, round five you won't play'.

Yup an impossible selection.

Sauce all the way.

My team looks so much better with Sauce. Allows me to add Dusty to the fwd line in place of one of the two rookies I would have to fleld.

Going with Grundy & Naismith and strapping in for who knows what

Allows me to get Macrae and bat 6 Uber premiums deep in the guts with Oliver at M6

Basically comes down to Gawn or Macrae for me

Anybody worried about Grundy's poor showing in Marsh series? I know he is a proven gun but he looked like he was struggling against Marshall.

Yeah, it's hard to see how he regresses now that he has entered his prime

Im not worried about the poor showing in Marsh series, Marsh series historically doesn't really prove much outside Rookies to watch.
My biggest issue is the backing up Year to Year, historically this isn't something that is a common occurrence

Over the last 5 years there has only been 37 players that have averaged more than 110 over the course of a season.
1 has averaged over 110 in 5 years - Dangerfield
4 have averaged over 110 in 3 years - Gawn, Fyfe, Ablett, Neale
11 have averaged over 110 in 2 years
21 have averaged over 110 in only 1 year

Only 2 players in the last 5 years have gone 3 years consecutively over 110 (Danger & Ablett), whether due to injury or form it just hasn't been something we have seen happen often. This year we have Macrae, Grundy, Neale, Gawn, Fyfe & Cripps who are all coming of 2 years back to back.
Can we really see only 2 in 5 years and then 6 in 1 year?

Not really but he has been a bit of slow starter in the last couple of years in R1

He made English his bunny last year though and has him in round one.

English looks a much improved player this year.

I’m settled on GG; I have a midpricer at d3 and Greenwood at f2 to fit him in. Ultimately, if I’m wrong about my d3 gamble it’ll be easier to fix than if I’m wrong about Jacobs and that’s what seals it for me.
