Pretty low risk strategy from my perspective, all comes down to whether Longer gets named or not.

What do ya do if Longer doesn't come back this week but comes in next week and holds his spot for the week after which he 100% will, Marshall will be back to playing forward, playing 20% ruck time and scoring 40's?

Just someones opinion of course, but an encouraging article never the less

Looking at his numbers and ability, you'd think the Saints would be stupid to bring Longer back in and make him their main ruck

There's risk to the pick for sure, but I think the upside might outweigh the risk

I just don't see it feasible that Saints move forward with 1 ruck when nearly all teams are rucking with 2 rucks (even Gawn the best ruck in the comp is getting help this week) it just doesn't make much sense.
Marshall is very athletic so it is more than appropriate that he stays in to chop out and give the team balance up forward while Longer/Pierce who are not very agile do the rucking.

If Longer doesn't get named this week it's Marshall's position to lose, a decent showing against McEvoy & I reckon there's some longevity. Worst case scenario is he gets a couple of price rises & you can trade up to Boak/Kelly or back down to Greene.

Holz

I want to keep the faith and i probably would if i didnt have sure fire great trade.

I certainly wouldnt move him for Marshall but i have 300k in the bank so Greene to Macrae/Neale just too good to pass up on

LaHug

I just hate this game. Could have and should have got Rozee last week.

Money Shot

If I trade Greene out I have $497,000 to play with.

I miss out on Boak, Kelly, Macrae, Fyfe and Lloyd who are the “must haves” that I don’t have.

Marshall is tempting but I’m not taking the risk. Longer’s been playing well and should come in over the next few weeks.

Rozee could easily come out with a 60 this week which means I’ll see myself chasing previous weeks points.

Sadly, I’m holding again... he has a good run coming up.

tkringle

Marshall had fairly good scores last three games of 2018 as well - 78, 85, 93. But Longer didn’t play then either

I guess I have to do it. See ya later, FF Forum

Had a fair bit of time to think about this one and here's my thoughts on the Marshall trade -

* Marshall has a BE of -24, he is projected to hit 400k over the next fortnight, even with sub 100 scores. That's a fair reward for just parking your money & assessing all the options.

* If he scores a ton he becomes a potential top 6 forward, currently averaging 112, that places him ahead of Kelly, Heeney, Daniel & Worpel.

* We've seen this scenario before, Stef Martin & Toby Nankervis were ruck/forwards who went onto average 95+, both were sole rucks.

* Longer is being a tad bit overrated, 65 games in 8 years, only 5 games in 2018 at an average of 53. Best year was in 2017 where he averaged 78. Doesn't do anything around the ground, something Marshall has done well in his two games thus far (plus 1 JLT).

* What's the absolute worst case scenario here? In two weeks if things are looking dire with scoring and/or cash generation he can always be traded at a profit, whether that be down to Greene or up to Boak/Kelly or even a cheeky sideways to Buddy.

He gets a 40 this week and gets dropped for Pierce/Longer.

If he keeps getting games in the ruck, he has a good chance of making $100k from here on out until the byes and be a reasonable scorer in a horror fwd line this year for SC. I don't have the cash or anybody like Greene to trade for him, but if I had Greene and have only made one or two trades so far, I would seriously consider Marshall.

What makes you think he'll score 40? He's averaging 112 in his 3 games (2 H&A and 1 JLT). If Longer named then probably not worth it but if Longer stays in the VFL then I suspect Marshall is the go-to man for the forseeable future.

Precisely, Greene was picked to do what Marshall has effectively done in his first two games. This presents as a timely get out of jail card, particularly in light of the fact that many got the jump with the Rozee trade. This evens up the ledger a fair bit & may even turn out better given Marshall has some potential to be a keeper.
