Part of the fun though! I’m almost hoping Grundy fails on Thursday so I can make the trade next week :D

Pretty showerty start, but I'm not too concerned now that the dust has settled, last year after round 1 I was ranked in the top 100, by the end of round 2 I was well outside the top 1000.

Trade to who though? I just looked through the numbers and there aren't exactly any standouts. Nank and Westhoff won't kick 3 and 5 5 goals too often

This starting 30 looks very good LH despite the poor Round 1 score & there are obvious reasons for that the first being Balta & Collins on field ahead of Drew & Dursma. Cappy didn't perform & Oliver had his worst game just about ever. Libba also disappointing (Fyfe & rook instead of Brouch & Libba looking like the smart play early). The good things are it looks like you nailed your MID bench. I have Cons/Atkins/Gibbons so I maybe missed an absolute gem in Scott. All up you missed only Parker I reckon & even he is a wait & see (only played Gold Coast) although he does get up & around the ground a bit so probs goes 50+ & makes some money. Anyway, in summary, it looks a very good side apart from the question marks over G&G that a lot of us have.

Thanks mate. Genuinely needed that!

He’s spot on. Look at the highest ranked teams, and few of any have the Grawndy combo. If they fire this week there’s big inroads to be made already on teams without them. (If not - kneejerk incoming!)

Rookie selection adds 100 points, plus 50 from Captain and another 100 from Grawndy and 50 from Oliver and things look a hell of a lot better

Thanks all.

Looking at this again...

Coniglio C instead of Gawn = +67
Duursma over Collins = +40
Drew over Balta = +85

Those three very simple and reasonable differences would've given me an extra 192 points for a score of 2095 and a much better feeling. Unfortunately, I can never get those 192 points back but I can hope that some of my failing PODs fire this week. Of course, if Newman, Rockliff, Sheed, Worpel etc. continue to fire, I'll never stop kicking myself.

You'd be crazy to trade premiums out after a week, especially ones that haven't even changed in role, just had poor games (See Gawn, Grundy)

Only correctional I might look at is Collins

180k and based on his role on Sunday you'd expect he will play KPP all year, only problem is nobody stood out round 1 as a replacement.

Will most likely need to hold and probably miss out on a mid pricer that looks good.

Joyce or Wilkie a good option to downgrade (or Parker if you've got Moore/Burgess up forward). If you've got cash, Newman or Houli could be worthwhile too.

And what if Parker/Wilkie put up 40 next week?

Newman and Houli can easily put in stinkers too

Can't believe how much credit these guys are getting from 1 game - way too much knee jerking Huggy!

No trades for me.  Not too worried as I played Balta and Gibbins ahead of Parker, Drew and Scott.  I also have $192K in the kitty

Not going to make any trades yet despite my disastrous 1891 score.

First score I've seen worse than my 1903...

I need some help! I probably need to do Collins to Joyce/Wilkie and Balta to Parker. Usually, I'd wait until next week, but what if Grundy/Gawn fail again? And what if Brayshaw or Libba flop again? Surely Oliver won't but if he pumps out another 70odd? I don't want to need to make 4+ correctional trades next week and regret not making 2 of them this week. This is the worst I've ever started and I'm so deflated about it that I might just quit :( :( :(
OK can I offer my 2 cents mate?
To be honest I think you went way too deep in the mids, given the amount of rookies there and the fact that they usually score the best. You've got Scott and Constable wasted on the bench. After having JOM at M6 last year and Holman or Kelly wasted on the bench early I decided that 3 on field mid rookies is the go.
Collins needs to go. Never a good pick at the price once Thompson went down and he is KP lock down. Unless Burgess goes back when Corbett returns and frees him up he is no good. That's 1 trade. Get whoever stays out of  Wilkie/Joyce stays when Brown returns.
See what happens with Balta on Thursday. If he plays a role down back without Rance or say Garthwaite coming in. Could perhaps wait a week. Parker looked really good and Iots of us looking to bring him in. That's 2 trades.
Libba got a HEAP of the pill and was just understandably rusty with DE. Looked hungry as. I'd leave him for now. I've got BCrouch and am more worried about him than Libba given 100k difference and he needed 2 goals to get 91.
I'd look seriously at Oliver or Brayshaw to Atkins. Let's u play Scott or Constable on the field. Scott in particular was awesome in a side that got pumped. That's 3 trades.
Give Grundy the Thursday game so u can base trades on whether he stays or not.
I regret massively not going cheap in the rucks, got both G+G and it really weakens the rest of my team.
I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to have 4 trades needed next week if u hold off now. It's happened to me too many times following the "never trade premos" and "don't make trades after round 1" mantras.
I now prefer to be very proactive and use 4 trades if necessary to fix mistakes and get the right rookies , rather than wait and be stuck with players u don't want and leak points.
I'd lock in Collins > Joyce/Wilkie and/or Balta > Parker. If Grundy flops I'd do them both.
See what happens this week with Oliver/Brayshaw but I feel Oliver is underdone. Really looked unfit and will cop the tag over Brayshaw. Could bank 400-500k and upgrade elsewhere or save it for when/if Greene and Moore go down.
Hope that helps. Got to figure out my own mistakes now, all due to overspending on two rucks LOL.

and getting worse by the minute. There's some serious reconditioning going on.  :o

ubeaut

To everyone saying "no trades after round 1" and "never trade a premo" that thinking is what got me stuck with Billings and Hibberd most of last year. And I also wish I'd traded Andrew Brayshaw earlier. Before you knew it Liam Ryan, Venables and ZGL went down and I was wishing I had traded him cos it was too late by then.
If you see at least 1 or 2 rookie correction trades then you can do at least 1 now, or get stuck next week when 2 other rookies get dropped/injured and/or a premo goes down. You're then needing to do 4 trades and you've only got 2 before prices change. Then you'll regret holding off.

LaHug

I distinctly remember everyone struggling to decide which rookies to field last week because they didn't look like a strong bunch, so I went heavy in the mids. Now, all of a sudden, we've got too many strong mid rookies and the premiums stink. I can't bring myself to trade them out because... what if it's just one week? I'm so so conflicted haha

his layout is fine.

my starting mids is even stronger, yes theres a lot of points on the bench, but theres also a lot of points on the field and you can just upgrade defense/fwds early.
