Why though? Scoring hasn’t changed has it?

Possibly less repeat stoppages which results in less balls ups and less hit outs to advantage

Very good point.

That is a very interesting observation. It will be interesting to see what the stoppage numbers look like after this weekend

I think it also has a lot to do with where the stoppages are on the field as well. If team A gets a clearance and boots the ball forward for a stoppage in the forward line, they might not have the guy that rucked in the middle take the ruck work in that situation. Where last season if the stoppage was in the middle of the ground you would have Grundy front up for another hit out.

In Grundy's case, he would also palm the ball down and then get the clearance. I don't know if the CP's count the same if he grabs it straight out of the ruck.

One last observation, I have noticed teams setting up their ruck a kick away from the play when it's locked in the forward line (Richmond started doing this with Nank a couple years back and teams are following suit). This is entirely structural to give them an intercept player and possible repeat entry inside 50. However this is poor for fantasy unless they get the intercept mark.

Grundy had 18 touches at 55%, 7 clangers (5FA) and v Geelong probably not as many HOTA given their prominent midfield.

I am absolutely not worried at all. Still had 35 hit outs, 14 contested possies and 4 clearances. If he cleaned his ball use up, snagged those 2 goals and didn’t give away 5 free kicks he would’ve gone 120+

Same was said about Grundy last night vs Rhys Stanley. I think rucks are going to need to hit the scoreboard like Nank on Thursday to really smash out a big score.

2 goals alone considering the state of the game probably sees him end on a 120. However he felt lucky to spike up to 80 considering he had something like a 35 point last quarter

Was tossing up between Gawn and Sloane and even said on discord that because it's Round 1 I should take a shot and pick Sloane

Obviously went Gawn, while Sloane is already on 70 half way into the second

I guess I should be happy I have Sloane, but argh this could be a huge missed opportunity!

Mat0369

I ended up throwing it on Sloane 30 seconds prior to lockout. Was made easier when I saw Gawn/Oliver's scores

Like many others VC’d Grundy and he bombed. Contemplated Gawn but have decided on Macrae. I know he may line up on Hewitt but for a contested ball hunting machine like Macrae just means more contested possies, at least that’s what I’m banking on :P

Last year's special of Grundy/ Gawn went poo for me haha. Only consolation is others willmostly be in the same boat.

Thanks, was made a bit easier knowing a lot of people took Gawn/Grundy captain and the fact the Hawks didn't have Howe in the side. Sloane normally runs rampant without a tag so figured at worst he would match the other two, at best he would throw up a 160. Macrae and Fyfe were the other two I was deciding on. Feels nice to finally nail a captain choice in round 1  :P

+1 >:(

Annoying, because I've done ok with most picks, so captain choice will put a bad dent in the final score

I think less stoppages is somethimg to think about. Im thinkkng go back to vc/c the mids. Cripps will always be one or the other for me
