Hi Dead Forum!!

The JLT Series kicked off tonight in the best way possible - Essendon losing ;D

A few players from tonight to keep an eye on.

Carlton
Patty Cripps 115 AF, 86% TOG. Absolute gun, what more can you say?
Sam Walsh 100, 80%. Obviously probably won't do that every week, but you'd be mad not to start him at $270k
Nick Newman 97, 87%. Plays a dream role for fantasy and very much under priced.
Will Setterfield 95, 73%. Yep got to squeeze him into the forward line I think
Michael Gibbons 60, 81%. Not a great fantasy return considering he kicked 3 snags. Still, he's a lock.

Disgusting that there are so many fantasy relevant Carlton players this year.

Essendon
Andrew McGrath 104 AF, 77%TOG. Is this the year he moves into the midfield? Played a bit there tonight, but I won't touch him.
Zac Clarke 104, 88%. Bellchambers wasn't playing so he probably won't ever score like that again. Would be tempting on the bench if he was $100k cheaper.
Dylan Shiel 61, 51%. Got a bit of a knock and don't think he'll play JLT 2. I'd avoid him with that news.

Heppell, Dev Smith and Zerrett all played less than 50% game time so not worth commenting on them.

While I enjoy Essendon losing (not going to happen too much this year :'() I'm going to rejig my whole fantasy team based off tonights game.

LaHug

It's only one game but I think all four of Walsh, Newman, Setterfield, and Gibbons have almost cemented their spots in my team already...

elephants

Newman I'm not sold on just yet, no way Simpson is as quiet in the regular season as he was last night. JLT is built for those non-established and fringe players to make their case, can't say he did anything wrong though

McGrath should bump his average up to low 80s, but thats where I see it hold for the time being - too many midfielders ahead of him at the Dons

Rusty00

Yeah, I have never really considered McGrath, can't see him making the required jump in points.

The 3 Carlton "rookies" are well on their way to cementing a spot in the Blues Rd.1 and therefore my team as well.

Newman is going to play a very fantasy friendly role, however with so many good defence options this season, you need to be convinced he's going to push his average high enough.

fanTCfool

I think Newman is a perfect option for AF. Extra trades compared to the other formats mean you can bail on him when/if the time comes without feeling like you've wasted a trade. He'll generate cash and produces scores up and around the top 10-20 defender numbers, perhaps better.

LaHug

Yeah, I'm unlikely to start him in the other formats (still softly considering though) because he's not much cheaper than a Witherden type. But in AF, cash generation from mid pricers is way more valuable due to weekly trades. I'm looking at a lot of mid pricers for that reason.

jvalles69

Newman hasn't moved from my team since AF opened.  Think he's perfectly suited to AF and worth the risk in the unlimited trade format.  Have found a way to get in Walsh and Setterfield too.

I've really hit up mid priced madness in my backline this year, with Newman, Smith and Williams sitting at D3-5. I don't have Laird or Lloyd which could come back to bite me in the bum, but I think there's quite a lot of value just in those three.

Also saves having to find another playing rookie down back.

So West Coast beat Geelong last night

Francis Watson scored (170k DEF) scored 95 from 79% game time. 17 Disposals and 10 tackles. No idea where he's at in the Eagles line up, but if he starts he could be a very good option.

Jack Petruccelle (170k FWD) confirmed he is a fantasy spud. Looked exciting the couple of minutes I watched but only scored 39 points.

Charlie Constable (170k MID) scored 90 from 71% game time. Has to be a lock if he's named round one.

Jordan Clark (242k DEF) is a bit dearer than most rookie defenders, but scored 78 lastnight. Keep an eye on him.

Tom Atkins (170k MID) scored 61 off 88% game time.

Sam Menegola scored 85 off just 50% game time.

Dangerfield scored 108 from 85% TOG. I think he played through the middle mostly, can anyone confirm this?

What's everyone's thoughts on Savage? I had him last year and he ended up being one of those annoying picks where he wasn't a great pick, but he wasn't bad enough to dump early so kept him until close to the end of the season.

Do we think he may be one to benefit from the new kick out rules to bump him up into the relevant range?

Had him last year too. I'd probably be reluctant to go there again just because he was frustrating to own as you say, but I'd suggest that the return of Dylan Roberton may also work in his favour.

I think he'll improve with the kick in rule proportionately to everyone else that does, meaning he'll still hover around the D8-D10 range - too good to trade but costing you points weekly. I don't think I'll be going there...

Rocky with a big 178 yesterday. Anyone have the balls to pick him at $600k?

Been thinking about it, we all know what he is capable of.

It looks like he's going mostly mid at the moment. I'll be weighing it up to put him in
