I wasn't questioning Lynch being the second ruck. I know he won't be

My query was can Balta fit alongside him and Jroo. Going from 1 tall to 3 is a big change and I appreciate he can play all positons but Richmond is a very good and settled side so breaking in and holding a spot has to be difficult

I hope he plays obviously, but just being devils advocate because it's a fact that some of the rookies who play Round 1 are going to be traps and dropped shortly after

AaronKirk

Bachar Houli after a very good pre season, good intraclub performance and now a good JLT game another cheap defender to consider at just under 400k

Had an injury hit year last season. Previous 3 seasons showed he is capable of a 90-95 average comfortably.

Southstorm

Is Balta more likely to start for the tigers down back where he started today? Seemed to play a Mr. Fix it role for the tigers in the vfl, very hard to pin where he plays best.

Like I said, Balta is a utility, can literally play anywhere on the park. But more to the point Nank needs support & Grigg won't cut it this year. The club has kept its cards close to the chest regarding the ruck situation but the cats out of the bag now. Get on board because I reckon he'll be a great pick.

Stats today 18 touches (8 contested), 9 inside 50s, 3 clearances, 7 hit outs, 2 goals & very nearly goal of the year if not for an Edwards mark on the line.

That "goal" was a behind ;)

I did say nearly, but in any case I have Setterfield & Balta as the standout rookies in the forward line. Both are worthy starters on the field too.

If Drew and Balta do end up being standouts then that would be great, but id replace Cav or Parker cause neither will score much... Just means you actually have a capable bench option instead.

Probably the main reason I'm against picking Bach is there's a chance he gets dropped or phased out if his form dips in favour of a younger guy like Markov or Menadue. Someone like Brandon Ellis is in the same boat fwiw.

Plenty to ponder but I've decided to stack the backs because I can't justify paying 200k on Collins when Brodie Smith & Roberton are around the 300k mark, so it will be Clark/Quaynor at D6 & then a couple of cheapies.

In the mids I'm currently uber strong, Brad Crouch at M6. I may however swap him for Greene if push comes to shove. Greene does need at least 1 JLT game to impress.

Balta was on very fringe on my radar for forwArd rookies. But after today I don’t see how he doesn’t play for the tigers.

Think we said the same thing last season about Higgins and Dimma's son had to kick him in the nuts to get him in for Rnd 3.

Personally would take balta over Higgins any day.

Agree 100%

Balta was great and apparently has been all pre season but it's hard to see where he gets in. Can play a lot of positions but assuming if he breaks into the side it will be as a forward and 2nd ruck.

HF: Caddy, Riewoldt, Edwards
FF: Rioli, Lynch, Higgins

Lambert, Dusty, Butler, Castagna the others to spend time there.

If he performs like that in JLT 2 he will have to force his way in but it's going to mean Richmond changing a lot about what's worked so well for them for 2 years

That is happening anyways with lynch ... but yes I understand your point
