I haven't been on the ZWilliams bandwagon but after 1/2 of a JLT game he is a lock.

Should be the second/third highest owned player behind danger and Grundy

Annoyed Pierce out after not even a quarter, was interested to watch him v Goldy.

Also can't take anything out of this game re Goldy. Mehhhhhh

Although it's hard to take anything out of Goldy's game, he had his 19 touches, 33 hitouts and goal in 62% game time :o

Boys goldy is a lock. Definitely looks fitter. Couldn’t care less about the hitouts and this and that. Just wanted to see how fit he actually was.

Second biggest lock to come out of today’s action.

I'll bite. Who was the biggest?

Balta firming for round 1, think he will replace Grigg as the number 2 ruck.

Does he fit in a side with Lynch though? If Lynch is named Round 1, and Balta is too then I would look at him, but I'm not sure he will have good JS and we don't want rookies sitting on the bench early in the season not making money

There's always a few Round 1 traps who get dropped a week or two later. Surely Balta would be a chance of being in that category?

Agreed, can't see him holding his spot when Lynch is fit, barring a Ronke-esque performance.

Just a few points which are already in the public realm.

First is that Richmond have already stated they don't want to play a 7 million dollar investment in the ruck & potentially cut his career short. Lynch isn't a ruck & has had 2 hit outs the past two years.

Second point is Balta is a utility in every sense of the word, he can play defence, wing & forward. Even when Grgg comes back he will probably plug another hole.

Third point is Balta played numerous games in TAC football on the ball, in one game he managed 17 contested touches & 20 hit outs. With the ruck rules changing he's a perfect fit as I think Grigg will suffer when 200cm monsters start plucking the ball out of the air.

Final point is Balta is worthy of a starting position on the field, I think his scoring potential is good & 70+ not out of the question.

At the moment I'm seriously thinking about playing Setterfied at F3 given the number of good options in the forward line.

He's playing well today, but as a forward. If he was going to play round 1 as a second ruck, you would think he'd be playing as one in the JLT though.

Seems he is playing in Lynch's spot.

Who are these good options? Besides Setterfield, most will struggle to get games, Parker and Cavara probably will play but they'd be lucky to average 50 at best... Why would you want 4 of them on your field over mid or defence rookies...?

Soldo will go straight out & Balta will play second ruck. He already has 5 hit outs today.

Balta & Drew look good. Drew has 3 preseasons under his belt & is a genuine contested ball winner. F6-F8 can be filled by Parker/Cavarra/Petrucelle.

I obviously haven't settled on this formation but I'd prefer to play Roberton at D5 & B.Crouch at M6.

He is in his third year but its not 3 pre-seasons. He has been injured. To be signed while injured is promising though. He seems decent if he can squeeze in, but like Bolta he is no certainty. I just think if you chose to do Setters at F3, you're asking for a weekly 40 at F6. And a fast tracked doughnut at F8 when one gets dropped relatively quickly.

Bully

Balta has smashed it today, would be shocked if he doesn't get named round 1. Up to 7 HO as well.

F6 a slight concern but will hopefully compensated by the added midfield depth.
