I've not had a lot of luck going with the more consensus picks the last few years so going back to trying to nail some speculative picks with this group.

Only locks are Laird, Danger, Gawn & Grundy. All other premiums are fairly fluid but leaning towards the listed players the most. Most rookies are placeholders for the time being.

Doubt the structure will change much although 3-4-2-3 only yields 12 definite keepers, am counting on one of the midpricers to still be there at season end.

Big Mac

Would like to hear your thoughts on Francis and Curnow, not sure I would start those two

Gleeson still isn't training yet so Francis should take the loose role in defence at Essendon for the start of the season. One of the best roles in supercoach for scoring and Francis is a natural intercept marker. Priced at 65 and I'm tipping to go 80-85.

Curnow is more of a hunch, feeling that McKay and McGovern will take some of the attention away from Charlie and he'll thrive with more open space. Very risky as he'll effectively need to become a premium at this price to pay off.

Keeper27

was iffy on a few of your picks but that's just a personal opinion.
stick with your gut and go for it.

good luck

JLT 1 update

Changed the structure of the backline from 2-2-2 to 1-3-2 mainly due to being iffy about Sicily and the rest of the main options. Was previously skeptical about Roberton but seemed to be getting loose enough to score points despite having an opponent for most of the match.

Walsh shaping as the rookie pick of the year, very good game in JLT 1. May downgrade LDU depending on how he goes this week.

Changed Gawn to Grundy and used the money to snare an extra premium midfielder at the expense of Hanners

Wingard looks like being a non-starter for Rd. 1, swapped him to Greene who will hopefully have a good run in JLT 2.

I wouldn't be going anywhere near Merrett as he is completely underdone at this point. He was meant to play significantly more time against Carlton than he actually did, and did absolutely 0 when he was on the field anyway.

I also wouldn't go anywhere near Boak; I don't see his ceiling being above 90. You could grab Worpel instead and turn Merrett into a uber prem like Neale.

If you really like Boak, I'd swap Merrett for either M. Crouch (who is proven) or Brayshaw (good recent history and frees up 15k)

Money Shot

Francis I don’t rate as a pick as I think Mills, Newman, McGrath for 50k more or Smith for 30k less will all score more than him. He is a very awkward price and you would need him to pump out 90+ scores for him to be worth it.

Merrett is a good pick IMO and although he was eased in to the Carlton game last Thursday I expect him to up the load this week.

Boak is interesting. Playing midfield minutes could pay off and apart from Danger/Heeney it’s hard to tell who will be top 5. (I personally have went Gray)

just dont see gray getting enough mid time to make it worth the risk.   every game port will be short of goals and move robbie down front to help out.   why take the risk when you can have smith, heeney, greene, menegola etc.

Because if Gray does play mid minutes which is very possible with some key outs he is a 105-110 player which will see him as a clear top 3 forward.

exactly ms, taking on coaching and role risk as well as player risk.  suppose it's just us old farts who get risk averse.

Cheers for the thoughts

Dropped Francis as I think he's going to be playing more third tall in the early part of the season with Hooker's injury and not the quarterback role that I thought he would be earmarked for. Have swapped him for Ridley who I think will fill that role for the club.

Also dropped Sicily; way too uncertain as to how he'll be used this year. Not pleased the least with the other premium defenders priced over $500k so looking to take a punt on somebody like Witherden this year.

Fyfe to Libba freed up some cash to make some other moves happen. Pretty satisfied with Libba's cash potential

Still tossing up over a few choices in defence
Laird vs. Whitfield
Smith vs. Roberton
Witherden vs. Ryan

My decision on whether to go Gawn + Greene or Goldy + Kelly will probably come down to whether or not Preuss is named Rd. 1 and whether he looks like playing regular games this year. Currently planning for Preuss to be a regular feature.

Don't think I'll change things to drastically from herein, pleased with the structure and still have $80k for rookie upgrades

Like the team SS
Did something similar to my team structure over the weekend as well.   deeper in fwds and mids and reduced def to only one over 500k
