Midfield and forward line appear to be the two lines I have mostly nailed. Backs and rucks are giving me the most grief early.

Oliver bouncing back, Macrae, Sloane, Fyfe, Rocky with Cousins, Walsh, Butters, Constable, Gibbons and Scott look to be a nice line.

Hopefully Hately comes in for GWS in a fortnight. He will make a perfect downgrade target by that point. Cripps, Neale and Josh Kelly will be the three I'll look to get in down the track.

Didn't pay up for Macrae. I guess the only comfort for me is that he's still probably going to be cheaper at some stage. BE of 141 is comforting for non-owners.

Comforting he has Gold Coast this week whom he averages 131 against and playing at Docklands where he has 11 straight tons? :P

Shut up wato. It was nice reading Huggy’s thoughts till you came along hahaha.
Captain choices are tough this week. Would be simpler if I had Macrae. Oh well. One day.

Main reason I traded in Macrae over Lloyd this week.

Makes me happier I chose him from the get go.

I remember years gone by where I've avoided starting the most expensive player in the league, and it's been an absolute brain flower trying to figure out how to get them in asap

Yeah because he'll drop in price if he only scores 131 :P

any chance we can put the fix in and get him knocked out in q1.  25pt game and voila big price drop?  not very ethical but hey its fantasy footy, gloves off.

Can't believe it, but I am considering holding Dusty and giving him another week

Thing is, all the guys I am looking at - Boak, Rocky, Worpel, Kelly, Dahl etc none of them scream proven premo to me - well they have good history in patches but not enough to trade Dusty to - I just don't want to grab one of those types off a 2 game sample size and I feel like even though Dusty will drop 20-30k and most of those guys will go up 20-30k it might be best to just hold, cop the cash loss and then make a decision next week from a 3 game sample, which will give me more confidence

I either trade him to M.Crouch, Rocky, or swing Setters into mids and trade Dusty for Boak/TK/Dahl etc

Might just hold trades this week, then do something next week if Dusty flops

I've also got Greene - do I trade them both this week and be done with them? Or hold and give them 1 more week? That's the decision

tommy10

Same boat as you RD. Was set on trading Dusty and Greene to Sloane and Worpel (for me). Now add Heeney to the list especially with him playing forward more and affecting his midfield minutes...which really is doing my head in  :-\

Need to have a good think about it and decide on which two out of Dusty, Heeney or Greene to get rid of...or cop it this week and hold.

jfitty

After thinking about it a bit more, the Heeney/Greene/Martin trades all feel like ones you'd regret down the track.

They may work out, but there's just as much chance each player turns it around and you waste a trade

That's the risk I guess..

I trust a fit Tim Kelly & Rockliff playing pure midfield way more than I trust Dusty.

The biggest myth in Supercoach is that Dusty is a proven midfield premium. He simply isn't and the numbers back this up.

He is a one-season-wonder.

Here are the Top 8 midfielders (Top 6 prior to the increase to 8 in 2013) across Martin's career (season average in brackets):

2018:
Mitchell (128.58), Macrae (127.05), Dangerfield (119.73), Cripps (119.41), Fyfe (113.87) Oliver (113.36), Neale (111.86), Coniglio (108.78) - Martin (102.09)

2017:
Dangerfield (134.12), Martin (121.88), Mitchell (118.86), Ablett (114.79), J. Kelly (113.67), M. Crouch (112.16), Duncan (112.12), Oliver (111.45)

2016:
Dangerfield (131.92), Pendlebury (118.68), Selwood (114.17), Ablett (114.07), Kennedy (113.56), Neale (112.64), Treloar (111.27), Rockliff (111.00) - Martin (108.14)

2015:
Fyfe (122.05), Dangerfield (120.00), Pendlebury (116.23), Ablett (115.50), Hannebery (114.42), Beams (113.44), Kennedy (113.12), Priddis (113.04) - Martin (103.96)

2014:
Ablett (136.67), Rockliff (132), Pendlebury (124.43), Selwood (123.29), Fyfe (122.25), Beams (115.53), Sloane (114.77), Sidebottom (113.16) - Martin (99.27)

2013:
Ablett (128.86), Pendlebury (125.52), Selwood (117.20), Swan (116.83), Griffen (116.35), Montagna (114.76), Dangerfield (112.90), Watson (111.47) - Martin (100.39)

2012:
Ablett (138.40), Pendlebury (124.62), Swan (124.62), Beams (122.25), Watson (120.95), Kennedy (120.95) - Martin (88.50)

2011:
Pendlebury (129.76), Ablett (127.10), Swan (120.62), Murphy (119.58), Dal Santo (119.30), Boyd (115.50) - Martin (98.90)

2010:
Ablett (128.42), Swan (127.46), Judd (118.85), Montagna (117.35), Barlow (116.00), Selwood (114.71) - Martin (77.90)

So clearly you can see Dusty has made the Top 8 midfielders once over his 9 year career (2017). For comparison, Oliver has already made it twice in his short 3 year career.

So yeah I would make the trade and not consider him again until he's available as a forward (at least).
