Wasn’t really considering him but now Mitchell has went down he has popped up as an obvious replacement.

He killed it last year but with Wallis and Libba back will this help or disadvantage him?

Is one year of elite scores enough to back him in for this year?

What is everyone’s thoughts?

Unless he comes out and goes 130+ from Round 1 (possible, although I'm betting against it), I see no upside starting him

Libba is back, Wallis and Bont should improve on last year, and he isn't proven at this price range with just last year being his huge year. Reminds me of another Dog - Ryan Griffen and his 1 outrageous year

I can certainly understand why a lot of people will be picking him - he's not a bad pick by any means, but I just think the money can be used better elsewhere, and that he will drop in value and average

689k. Not for me. I can see why he is an option now but the price puts me off... personally I'm thinking Cripps to pocket a bit more cash and hoping Macrae drops a little.

Averaged nearly 130 at Marvel Stadium last year I believe and has 2 of his first 3 games there. MASSIVE ceiling. He’s a lock for me. If he does go BANG early don’t want to be trying to find cash to get him in. If he doesn’t will still finish top 10-15 mid at worst.

The season he had was unbelievable and will be hard to replicate but I don't see him dropping bellow 115 average.

He has been a gun scorer and ball magnet from day 1 and has just reached his prime age at 24. Will get better as a player from here on. However, that doesn't always mean better SuperCoach scores. Hes in my side but don't think he's a lock

I was just looking over Macrae's numbers for 2017 and 2018, trying to see if there was any patterns or stand out reasons as to how he increased his average so much last year

In 2017 he averaged 106.9 but only scored above 125 on two occasions

In 2018 he averaged 127.1 and scored above 125 a whopping 10 times

36 possessions looks like it could be his magic number. In 2017 he only had more than 36 touches once, and that was one of the two times he went 125+.

In 2018 however he had 36+ touches 7 times, and 6 of those were his Top 6 scores for the year, all his massive scores

This could all mean nothing and just be a waste of time, but generally speaking when gets low 30 touches or less he scores between 100-125. It's the big 36+ touch games that get him the huge scores, and he only managed to do that two times in 2017, so does the return of Libba, plus progression of Bont, Wallis, McLean, Hunter etc mean we will see more 2017 numbers as opposed to 2018?

Only time will tell I guess, but as said in my first reply earlier I think he's a pass for me, and I'll hope to get him at a later point at a cheaper price

It's  hard to know what the dogs will do with their midfield setup. Dahlahaus gone takes him out of the equation but guys like Wallis, Bont, McLean, Dunkley play all over the place so you never know. Would be interested to know if Macrae moved from a wing to more on ball out of necessity or if he naturally developed into that roll or if he even made that move at all. I don't even know but his scoring obviously went through the roof and if it was just a matter of him being a year older and becoming a better player then he's a must have but if it was because of the circumstances with injuries etc then it puts a big question mark on him

Did Dahl's game turn to shizen after he was taken outta the Fwds and put in the Mids, or do I have that wrong? And his game turned to shizenhausen when he was taken outta the Mids and played Fwds. Reason I ask is he appears to be gonna play Fwd at the Cats and could return to form.

Yeah I can't see any scenario where Dahl goes back to 90+ scoring, especially at the Cats

As for Macrae, I'm still ruling him out for the time being, but I need to see how the Dogs look in JLT - who's playing where etc before I can actually make a final decision as to whether I start him or not

He's always going to rack up 25+ touches, but if he is moved back to the outside more permanently and isn't spending enough time  inside (due to Libba etc taking over) then that's probably what will aid my decision

Absolute gun, but can't start him at that price. Will be keeping a close eye on him though.

I don't think I'd be worried about Libba coming back as a factor not to pick him, Macrae is clearly the man at the Doggies.

I'm aprehensive to start him, but he could become a bit of a POD with most favouring Cripps as a Mitchell replacement.

Good memories of some massive scores last year, and I'm sure he's spent time this preseason working out how to deal with a tag (which only slightly hampered him in 2018).

We'll see at this stage.
