Caddy and Grigg both 4-8 weeks away and Lynch 2-5 weeks

That's 2-3 best 22 players - makes me feel much more positive about Balta now - there's a spot or two to grab, so he's looking good

Yep, lock him in.

Hawthorn: "He is progressing well now (post minor knee surgery).. He is back running & the plan is to introduce him back into the ball program pretty soon." Hawks Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd on Grant Birchall

I can just see it now

I'm not going to like the few defensive rookies named, or want to spend money elsewhere and this bloke will be named Round 1 to lure me in and I'll be the sucker who gets him, then he'll get injured shortly after

Doubt he will be ready for round 1 but could be a decent downgrade target.

Expected to return "first half of the season"

With Birchall, that's almost season ending

Bah that was 6 weeks ago

Birch has been ruled out for ages

GoldDigger

Durable GWS star Callan Ward will sit out his first AFL game since 2014 as he recovers from a knee injury.

The gun midfielder has been ruled out of the Giants' season opener on March 24 against Essendon and might miss up to four rounds of footy.

The Giants haven't pencilled in a return date for their co-captain but are expecting him to be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Ward pulled up sore from last week's pre-season game against Sydney, with scans later revealing a strain to his lateral collateral ligament in his knee.

Izak Rankine has hurt his hamstring in the JLT game against Sydney.

Iced up at 1/2 time and taking no further part in the game.

Isaac Heeney rolled his ankle in the first quarter but is fine and still out there.

This one is concerning.  Forget SC just hope Dylan is alright and this is only a minor set back.
