So the Giants play an intra club today and don't post a single thing on their website, Facebook page or twitter to let their fans know about how it went and if their star player got through etc. Obviously I only want to know for supercoach reasons but being a fan I would be pissed off. All they post about is their women's team that no one cares about

i really cannot decide on Brodie Smith this year. 330k for someone who can average 90 odd and fill my d6 is super enticing, the kick in role seems to suit him, Adelaide look poised to bounce back, and he is owned by so many that it mitigates the risk. HOWEVER,

he has nearly no scoring history to suggest he can average even close to what people are expecting including myself. i constantly see him in my team and go "ok thats a 90 keeper who will fill my d6, worst case he gets to byes averaging 90 and i upgrade to a proven premo", but realistically i look and see him as a 80 average player, in a SC friendly role who will have some good days and plenty of mediocre ones, not someone who i can rely on for overall or for league wins.

so the issue is do i squeeze in the cash to upgrade him to someone i can trust and is proven or is defence far to speculative that he's worth riding and finding the cash to offload should he flop for me and a third of SC'ers.

I'm feeling the exact same

No doubt he's looked good, and the Crows should bounce back and I can see his role being SC friendly, but I just don't want to be stuck with a mid pricer who doesn't work out

Imagine he comes out and starts the year with a couple of scores in the 70's. What do you do? First instinct is to trade, but then you notice he won't lose cash so you give him another chance, and then next thing you know you're stuck with him and losing points every week

Of course it could be the flip side too - he could come out with a few 90+ scores and you're cheering

I think it's just going to come down to the structure I end up settling on. Like Toby Greene, Smith is also someone we can grab at Round 3 if we don't start him so it shouldn't be a massive loss either way, and for that reason I am probably leaning towards not starting him, and then if he looks great after 2 games I'll bring him in
Have to agree.
I haven't had Brodie Smith at any stage in the build up to 2019. Unless something extraordinary happens in the next few days I won't be starting with him.
There has been an incredible amount of interest about him and much has been written here, in the press and on social media. Yet for all that his scoring in the past hasn't set the world alight. He would have been alright to own in 2014. That was some time ago.
He is capable of big scores but his history has in the main part been scoring anything in the 40-90 range. There is no escaping that and for this reason I have not entertained even the slightest thought of starting him. He has a bit to prove before I take him out of the SC spud/tease category.
Using the filters on SC he has a 37% ownership. Aside from Rory Laird at 38% he is the most popular defensive pick excluding all the rookies. There's a lot of coaches who have bought into the hype and are hoping the new rules and Crow's game plan will make him a great buy. Perhaps, I'm wrong for not buying into it as well but I'll be happy to reassess before R3. If he's averaging 100 I'll bring him in. If he's averaging 75 I won't.

If you want someone with scoring history who'll be good for 90 a week and become a keeper (barring injury), why not go Hanley?

It is a worry, but upgrading him ruins my structure and downgrading means i would be running rookies D3-D6! Can't see anyone else around Smith's price that A) will play B) has such a high ceiling (even if having to deal with inconsistency)..

Hanley is so far past it, it's not worth it. Take neither.

And to think the press flew their helicopter over the cattery a couple of weeks ago for a lousey intra club. I'm not sure what the definition of an interupted pre season is, but I won't be going near him at this stage.

And the other thing I wanna mention is GWS plays Sunday, so they can name him Thursday and then pull him out. It's got shower written all over it.

That’s why Robbo would have been the perfect candidate but unfortunately he may not be able to play again  :'(
