There was once a man nicknamed Titch, he was held down by the red and white, made his way to the brown and gold where he turned into a beautiful prince...

You're not seriously comparing Newman to Titch?  :o

Titch was averaging 104 as the 4th/5th mid! It was no surprise he would only rocket up as the number 1 mid at Hawthorn

How does Newman relate to any of that? Not like Sydney had a bunch of DEF guns who were restricting him. Sorry, makes no sense at all to me  :-\

Hmm...that's weird, I thought I had posted a "serious" comment too!  Basically think he has a lot of upside given the right opportunity, paying through the nose for defenders has always burnt me.  He is currently my D4, so it's not like I have him as one of my best options.  I may still take the wait and see approach if anyone else jumps out at me.  He may possible be more suited for AF, so he's still in the air for me, even though I do have him locked currently.

Edit: I posted it in the wrong thread...

Anyone looking at Miles? Newman?

I'm leaning towards locking Newman and possibly Miles.

How viable is Dogs ruck English?

I'm assuming you mean for R2, better options out there.

Fair enough

I just think he is priced too awkwardly

Williams for 12k more, or Brodie Smith and Roberton way cheaper and will likely score the same to him

I've got Williams as well at D3.  I think I'll bit the bullet definitely on Newman if he's taking the kick ins, otherwise he'll be in and out.  Watching to see how Birchall goes too.

Might be crazy, but I'm considering starting all of Miles/Hanners/Libba

At their prices, if they can all go on to avg 85-90+ (which is a very reasonable expectation) then they will provide good scoring, make just as much cash as a rookie, but very importantly they will be easy to upgrade to full prems - just need to milk one cow, then use that cash to turn them into a prem. Less rookies on field too

Seriously tempted. GnR everywhere else, with just these 3 mid pricers
A big problem with this approach can be either missing out on mid rookies (which usually score more) or having them stuck on the bench.
Even with just JOM as a midpricer at M6 last year I was having to choose between Kelly, Holman and Brayshaw for 2 spots. I eventually worked out that Brayshaw was a spud and left him on the bench, but to start with I lost a heap of points with either Kelly or Holman benched.
Ideally midpricers take a fwd/def spot where the rookies are poorer scorers (esp. fwd)
That's unless you have Libba and Co at M3/4/5 which leaves you with only 2 mid premos and again mids are the highest scorers traditionally.

I'm looking at going mid pricers from M4 to M5 or M5 to M6 because there doesn't appear to be many mid rookies that are walk up selections (the ones with the best kind of js) and Grundy and Gawn are shaping up as a must have, $1.4 million dollar ruck combo. If you're starting two 130+ players with Dangerfield in the forwards, you've already got three solid captaincy picks without needing to load up in the midfield as well.

On the flip side, Miles is a certain to go 90+ and Hannebery was a consistent 110ppg player not that long ago. Definite value to be had.

Gawn + Grundy will force people to play differently this year. Can't remember ever needing to spend this much on rucks before.

Miles best option, Hanners is anyones guess, I'd personally stay away from Libba.

was thinking the same thing.... but Hanners at the saints could be a good thing
but yeh... got Miles in my team so far

Peter

I agree with RD - had him for a while, but highly unlikely to be a keeper imo and certainly not going to play mid like Titch, so not for me

I asked about Callum Mills a few pages back and other than GL saying he was considering him, nothing else was mentioned

Well, I just came across this

AFL.com.au @AFLcomau
Callum Mills dominated in the midfield during the @sydneyswans match simulation on Friday morning.

FantasyFreako @FantasyFreako
Mills has trained with the midfield group over the pre-season and was used at centre bounces in match sim. #SuperCoach

Guess that makes me a genius for being the first person to actually raise his name ;)
