RD, won’t be choosing Vardy for my team - just a suggestion for yours if you were not comfortable with the rookies. Personally, I am going with Setterfield, Rankine, McAdam for F4,5,6 as I believe they will all play. If they don’t, then Narkle is another option. Bring on the JLT series

I hate starting high priced rookies, but I guess Rankine or Rozee could be better options for F4 than a full mid pricer like Tex

Bring on JLT indeed!

If you are only using Tex as a step up player to make a 100K RD and that is not a given he will why not keep an eye on players over the preseason who are up to a 100K cheaper ? like the ones above that extra cash will upgrade another line , those 350K players never seem to work out for me  ;)

The potential 100k gain is secondary. The appeal is having a Best 22 player capable of scoring well, and not having a spud rookie on field

I don't see the point in going with mid price forward options this year. The forward line is so stacked at the top end that you're best off grabbing Danger, 2 other premium priced players and filling it out with rookies.

As above, the only reason I'm asking about him is because I don't think there will be 5 good enough rookies to start and rely on. There might be enough named round 1, but I'm not picking SC small forward spuds ala Pickett, Garlett etc.
Yep I agree. Fwd rookies generally score poorly, and last year was no exception.
Ryan - injured early made little cash
Venables - scored bugger all then got injured
Rioli - was OK but didn't play round 1
Garlett - absolute spud
Crowden - didn't play round 1 then averaged 43
ZGL - was OK averaged 56 but injured early

The two best fwd rookies from memory were Stephenson (overlooked by many due to price) and English who wasn't considered to have good JS (I had him but at R3)
Bundy was a good F5 and worth the extra coin for his job security and scoring ability.

I think Greene or similar priced player at at F4 and Setterfield at F5 is the go, only 1 rookie on field then.

Tex is definitely a viable option and to think he may score bad because  of a miscarriage is the view of a pessimist
An optimist can argue the opposite and say this will give him determination - to even list that as an influence is something I do not comprehend - I have personally been affected by 2 miscarriage and do not understand this statement ...however I do know everyone is different...some more than others

Tex is a game breaker without doubt. It seems since the burden of captaincy he has struggled a little but his best is elite

Im not a fan of KPP generally but Franks a few years ago, and when Richo was shifted to a wing he was SC gold

Tex isn't old, he has had a few years now to get used to being a captain, he will be fed from a settled mid group this year...its highly unlikely he would drop in price - if he increases by 100k its a win

Good things can come out of the Crows this year with Smith & Crouch back, no one has really left besides McGovern, a good draft hand, Sloane is committed, the tissue box of pre season camp 2018 is empty, Gibbs has had a year to settle, and it seems the list is pretty healthy which will push everyone with the young fellas wanting a gig in the 1's

I see the merit in someone like Tex in the situation RD has mentioned.
I was burnt by Venables and co last year. Tex will play every week and one good game could see his price go up nicely too, making a sideways trade to someone more likely to be top10 possible. Both he and JJK have gone 170+ in the past. I'm not saying they'll do that again but even one or two 100+s will somewhat negate the odd 40/50 they could put up.
Roberton, B Crouch and Libba are the three mid pricers I'm most interseted in.

Fritsch and Higgins, 21/75ave and 20/72 ave, although Jack didn't line up Rnd 1.

Well there you go

Stephenson is probably the equivalent of starting Rankine/Rozee this year, price wise

Higgins didn't even line up Round 1, and English is barely a pass

Fritsch was the only good one from R1, but let's say Fritsch and Higgins so that's 2 fwd rookies

And now people are expecting 5 good ones to line up round 1? We'd be lucky to get 5 for the entire year, hence me asking the question about Tex

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly thrilled about the idea of starting Tex at all - a mid pricer who will need to be upgraded isn't ideal at all, but imo a reliable F4 is a higher priority than risky rookies filling out 5 spots

As an alternative, I might look to start a 4th prem forward, but in doing so I'd have to go lighter down back with someone like Brodie Smith or Roberton. I guess position is secondary here, because either way it's a mid priced forward or mid priced defender, and there's probably a better chance Smith/Roberton can turn into a potential D6 keeper than there is Tex turning into a F6 keeper

I haven't even considered tex because I only get mid pricers if I believe they can become a keeper. At the moment I have JJK at f4 who I haven't seen in a single side yet. Any reason he won't return to his best?

with you on jjk.    best option available for f4 in my opinion.   a little bit more can get you tom lynch who i expect to score better in the black and yellow.

I have the same philosophy on mid pricers too, which is why I said I will probably look at Brodie Smith or Roberton instead of Tex.

JJK isn't in much teams because he's basically spent the entire preseason in rehab and I'm not sure he is still even on the track yet?

He's getting older now and injuries are playing their part. At 400k, I'd rather spend 20-30k more and look at someone like Lynch, Billings etc (Although personally I won't be getting anyone in that price range)

West coast were only back for 2 weeks before the Christmas break so that was no surprise. Was sure I read somewhere that he's due back after the Christmas break and was in a lot better shape this year. Will have to wait and see though

This quote from Darling on JK yesterday morning.

"I think JK will be right for round one. He looks good, he’s helping the young boys out a lot. He’s not doing contact yet, but that will come.” Darling on Kennedy

The no contact at this stage is my slight worry.

I am going Greene as F4 if he lines up Rd 1.

Will be the same case for me as always. If they play a JLT game and are named round 1 then I'll be happy. When there's doubt in the couple of weeks leading up to round 1 then I put a line through them

Anyone given any thought to Harry Taylor if we don't get many rookies?

Only 262K, and outside of his injury effected 2018 a supercoach worst of 73.6. Of his 11 seasons he's only played less than 18 games once - last year.

Seems like a good safe option for cash + points if the rookies arent there.

Didn't know he was that cheap. Could be tempting if rookies are scarce, but not sure he's automatic best 22 anymore Cats fans would know more.
But he is a KPP and if there's options of Libba, Miles, Roberton, B. Smith, Greene etc around the same price then no.

In Lions practices Charlie Cameron has been running with the midfield along with Cam Raynor. If this continues and will be watching JLT do they become options for F4.

Backed up by this article now from Herald Sun.

"Brisbane will introduce a dangerous edge to its midfield this year by adding quicksilver pair Charlie Cameron and Cam Raynor to its onball mix.

The Lions midfield will look vastly different this year without departed onball king pin Dayne Beams, but coach Chris Fagan is unafraid of what lies ahead given the talent at his disposal.

Fagan’s side played three 15-minute periods of match practice on Sunday at the club’s Tasmanian training camp, with Lachie Neale already making a seamless transition into the Lions midfield.
