So we know that most mid priced options usually end up being a trap, but if you do manage to pick the right one/s it can pay off big time

We seem to have quite a few this year, and fighting the temptation could be hard

DEF
Nic Newman $394,100
Jasper Pittard $365,700
Aaron Francis $350,900
Brodie Smith $332,500
Dylan Roberton $297,500
Pearce Hanley $296,400
Grant Birchall $205,200

MID
Jack Viney $449,500
Brad Crouch $418,000
Tom Rockliff $409,500
Aaron Hall $389,200
Anthony Miles $342,000
Dan Hannebery $326,100
Tom Liberatore $300,400

RUC
Matthew Kreuzer $432,900
Shane Mumford $320,200

FWD
Toby Greene $354,600
Joe Daniher $277,800

Most of these guys don't interest me, but the ones I am personally looking at are

Birchall: If he lines up R1 then it's a no brainer - absolute lock
Hanners/Libba: Reckon I'll start with one of these, and Libba is the preferred choice for sure
Greene: If he has overcome his injuries then I think he has to start at that price

Other than them, the rest don't interest me. I know Joe D might be popular, but I see him being a slow burn and putting up a fair share of average scores so he's a pass for me

What Mid Price options are you looking at? Or are you passing on all of them and going GnR?

SilverLion

Def: B Smith, Roberton, Birchall
Mid: Miles, Liberatore
Ruck: No idea who'll be R2 with Grundy at this point. Abbott, Longer also valid options. Brooksby, Clarke potential bench options as well.
Fwd: Greene, Daniher

Miles aside, the rest of these players are too cheap to ignore, and if they start Round 1 they'll either become keepers, or earn the around the same amount of cash as a rookie with better JS.

I like Miles, so hope I can fit him in somewhere ;D

Defence
Williams the only lock for me at this stage

Mids
Hanners and Libba the only options but I don’t see either being keepers

Rucks
Longer, Naismith, Kreuzer all options

Forward
Greene is the only one I would consider but he is likely to miss games throughout the year. However if he plays 6 games and averages 100 which isn’t out of the question then he would make everyone who didn’t start him fall behind the pack.

Daniher will have sub 70 scores so although he will make money id prefer a rookie.

I've made my own list of players to look at. Defence, Mids and Rucks are the same.

Forwards I also have:

Billings - $437,600
Lynch - $425,600
Dahlhaus - $418,300
JJK - $379,800
Picken - $285,500
Elliott - $280,300
Bruce - $268,300
Fasolo - $250,000

Obviously Picken, Elliott and Fasolo have lots of injury issues. Billings and Dahlhaus battled form issues. Lynch needed to come home. JJK never looked 100% after his injury. Bruce is priced at 50, but can easily average 70 and make a bit of cash.

Too many to choose from.

Where is all the Longer love coming from?

He has played heaps of footy with Hickey not in the side, and he always scores like trash

Literally the worst No1 ruck for SC in the entire comp

I'm mad Saints, and if I was to take one of our rucks, it would be Pierce. he was really impressive when he came into the side late last year. But even then, there is more chance of me taking two donuts with Mummy than having him in my side.

If Roberton is fit, sign me the flower up.

The mid pricer conundrum does my head in every year.
There is always a large group of them and only a very few that work out.
It is the high percentage/safer play to just go with guns n rookies, but missing out on the "right" mid pricer/s can hurt and "safe" may get a decent overall rank but the very top players usually take risks with starting picks and left field trades.

Let's look at this year's mid pricers

Bonner - fail
Libba - fail (injury)
Armitage - fail
JOM - pass (I started him) made 100k slowly but was hoping for better scores/quicker cash
Prestia - fail
Redden - fail (came home strong but slow start)
Coniglio - winner, the one everyone wishes they started who didn't (like me)
Lycett - winner, made 150k averaged 80 for 270k and provided stepping stone to Grundy.
Bundy - pass, didn't set the world on fire but slowly made a bit of cash and had great Job security.
Rioli - fail
Stringer - fail
AhChee - fail
Deledio - fail
Griffin - fail
Taranto - winner(I think?) made some early cash and good scores
McGrath - fail
Lobb - fail

So the trick is to find this year's Coniglio in the mids, a Lycett type for R2 to pair with one of Grundy/Gawn until the best option appears, and maybe a Bundy like fwd.

At this stage Libba and Greene look the most likely for me.

as usual MS, lot of sense in your thoughts.
williams d3, newman or witherden d4
libba m5,
joe d is a trap,  will monitor toby greene as f4 option.  josh kennedy is high probability of avg >90 and be a good f3/f4 option.
ruck will be grundy r1 and r2 will be the cheapest starting ruck; with fort or brooksby r3

can relax now until march  :P

Newman is going to be extremely hard to pass up if playing a more conducive role at Carlton. Proven scorer at sub 400k

Williams is a lock.

Roberton HAS to be a lock if fit surely? 2 90+ seasons at sub 300k!

I'm probably starting one of Hanners/Brouch/Libba/Fiorini. Undecided on which but I'm a massive fan of Fiorini, who I think is the next logical player to take a step up to premium status who isn't there already. Not touching Rocky or Hall.

Hands off my Sinkers Naismith :(

Kreuzer 100% an option if everything's okay.

The FWD mid-pricer that I've seen no one mention that is currently sitting in my team is Dean Kent. Scores of 113, 105 & 73 in his 3 fit games this season and has shown an ability to rack them up going through the middle at VFL level. Regardless of where he lines up for the Saints, whether it be midfield as slated or up forward like at the Dees, I think he is a genuine option at 278k.

Has Mummy actually been given a 2 match ban for the coke stuff? All i can find are articles saying it was likely he would be given one from before they officially picked him up

Yeah he will miss the first 2 games :P Plus several others throughout the year lets me honest...hes not an option

_wato

Geez Kreuzer at R2 opens up a lot through the team but Gawn as a POD is so juicy.

If Kreuzer gets through the first 2 months unscathed you've won that pick because he'll go 105 in that period and make 100k. Hmm

Looking at mid price rucks, looking for feedback from the relevant supporters

Will ENGLISH be given another crack at the role given he played the first 7 games this year until he got injured? Surely given Trengove is more a backman, and Roughead and Campbell have left he's a good chance? Has he bulked up? 300k

Will NAISMITH be no. 1 or will Swans stick with Sinclair given his good form there? Does it depend on Sam Reid as Buddy needs backup and Sinclair would be better fwd than Naismith if Reid is unavailable?
250k

What's the go at Geelong? Al Paton has DARCY FORT as his R2 but there's Stanley, Abbott and Smith to beat for him to be there round 1.

At West Coast NicNat is injured as usual, leaving VARDY and new recruit HICKEY battling for the no. 1 role

At Bomberland we have ZAC CLARKE saying he can play alongside Bellchambers, but I can't see it unless he's picked ahead of McKernan, Brown and Stewart or Daniher is injured.

Reckon we might See PREUSS line up alongside Max round one, given they play Port with their new Ryder/Lycett combo (neither of whom are options unless the other gets injured) but will that be the norm, or more a horses for courses depending on match ups?

Jeez none of them interest me for any ruck positions maybe if Gawn went down Preuss would be a good option , spending big bucks for ruck cover in the FWD line is not an option for me so it's looking like coughing up for 2 good rucks and if cash left over maybe Preuss as R3 if he gets a game.
