2018 Off Season (list changes and trade rumours)

I’m glad the Saints are throwing the kitchen sink at Shiel. Is he worth that much? Probably not but given the state of our list and lack of stars the dollars aren’t the issue especially if it is front end loaded.
After Hanners made his intent clear  I thought the Shiel interest would die but if the funds are there then great.
Talk is that Shiel is likely to go to the Hawks though Carlton are making a play for him too.

You can create a good culture and show plays saints are going in the right direction!! Worth way more than overs! The effects of contracts as big of that I think is far more negative than people realise because they don’t associate the effects till a few years later!

Not much as you can see from North Melbourne's pursuit of a big fish last year (Dusty, Kelly). Which has lead them to a position in which they're looking like overpaying a Polec type this year.

But this is the answer - need to show that even if they're not going to be making top 4/finals next year that they will at least be trending in the right direction.

If Shiel wants to win a flag then he could probably just stay at GWS

Seems odd that he would move from GWS to Hawthorn to try and win a flag - Hawks would be further away than winning one than GWS

Obviously the go home factor is in play though

Supremely talented and has great goal nous but is a tad slow, his main issue is/was being stuck behind Rioli/Butler/Castagna/Bolton/Higgins/Baker. Absolutely killed the VFL as one of our best regularly just unfortunately had no opportunity in the seniors.

A late draft pick will likely do it, but he's a very good chance to be Eddie's successor at the Crows I'd have thought, certainly has the ability.

I think their list manager specifically said he would be a good replacement for Betts in the future
