In regards to Lloyd, he's had one premo season. Previous high of 87. In fact I'd say he's had 2/3 of a premo season if u look at his first 7 games. Is it just a coincidence that he started to kill it when Mills went down? He's 600k+.

Starting teams are about value for money, points per dollar (and the right rookies)
For that price you look for a 110 average regardless of position. Fyfe and Neale are similar prices, Laird and Simpson are cheaper and all have solid scoring history.
Williams is 200k cheaper. Whitfield is a lock to play midfield with more points on offer with no Sheil or Scully. Blakely is 460k and should play mid with Neale's points on offer.

Remember when Goddard had an out of the box season and started as the most expensive player in SC and as a defender? He reverted to normal scoring, lost a heap of cash and this is a guy that had solid premo scoring history.

Finally he could get more attention given his prolific accumulation as we saw in the elimination final vs GWS, where he was tagged by DeBoer and got 80.

Upgrade target for me.
I don't have Lloyd ATM but will try and fit him in the new rule change will suit him more than most as for Whitfield I don't see it a given he will play midfield I see him playing much the same as last year that's what he is good at I see Taranto and Hopper taking up some duties each , as for Lloyd being tagged Whitfield got tagged R23 and scored 61 so that just happens some time , Whitfield is a good pick so is Lloyd but can't have them all  ;)

Whitfield is 2 years older than full mid time role and went 97 that year, nothing stopping him going 105+

Lloyd is fully priced and won’t improve, think it’s a dumb decision to pick him. Honestly don’t even understand some of the scoring he got gifted last year imo

Haven't questioned Whitfield's potential once - I agree 100-105 is likely

I'm just questioning if it's a must to start him

Blakely + 80k as an alternative

I dunno. If you think a defender is going to average 100+ for 540k that's pretty darn close to a must have.

I'm not sold on Whitfield, if he proves me wrong then will be an upgrade target.

RaisyDaisy

Well yeah, I reckon he should push 100 but he doesn't have a big ceiling and I don't expect him to be pushing 600k value wise so they're the reasons I don't think he is a must to start

Again, in no way is he a bad choice. I'm just wondering if there are other players worth starting due to higher potential scoring, cheaper price etc because I think Whitfield won't go up heaps and isn't a damaging scorer - it won't often hurt that you don't have him

Whats this not a high ceiling business...? is 130/140 for a defender not high enough for you guys? He'll push that further with mid minutes too

130 and 141, the only 130+ scores from 22 games = not a high ceiling

He did manage to produce back to back 130's in the finals however which is very good

Most of the other top tier defenders have a higher ceiling and pump out more 130+ scores from time to time, but Whitfield is super consistent which is very appealing too

I can't say it enough, he is a great pick - I am simply just questioning if he must be started, or should he be left as an upgrade target

Personally I feel he's more likely to drop a bit and he's priced where he should be, I only have space for 1 defender that fits that bill and it's Laird.

Right now the only actual locks I have are Danger, Heeney, Grundy, Cripps.
No one is locked in my defence because I've toyed with just having lower priced premiums that will benefit from the new kick in rules.

Current locks - Danger, Grundy, Fyfe, Lloyd
