Yeah at his price, Whitfield seems like a no brainer

Laird is a no brainer too

I'll be trying my best to start Lloyd too. I know he hasn't backed it up, but I honestly think he can, or go close to it and he could be a nice POD as I don't think heaps of people will be willing to cough up 600k for him

Lloyd, Laird, Whitfield, Williams is what I am hoping to start with. Simmo probably the only other guy I'd consider

Sicily is great, but I'm not starting anyone who has a history of getting injured/rubbed out

*Looks at Fyfe too*

Few more prices. Some very tempting bargains (or traps)

JOE DANIHER (ESS) $277,800 FWD
TOM LIBERATORE (WB) $300,400 MID
AARON HALL (NM) $389,200 MID
JOSH KENNEDY (WC) $397,800 FWD
JACK SCRIMSHAW (HAW) $149,800 DEF
NIC NEWMAN (CARL) $294,100 DEF

With Dochertys injury and blues not chasing Goddard Newman could be a handy D5/6 at the price.

Newman and Brodie Smith both look very attractive, but I think I'd rather spend a little more and grab Williams, plus 3 outright guns

A lot of these guys will likely end up being traps

Even a fit Joe D at a measly 277k has to be considered as a stepping stone

If Libba is fit and cherry ripe, then I think I just have to roll the dice because at only 300k he could make as much as a rookie in terms of cash, plus has the potential to bang out good scores. If he does well, then he makes cash and scores, and if he breaks down early, it's an easy correction trade to a missed rookie. At 300k, I think the reward outweighs the risk

Daniher the 2019 Christensen. Probably won't be a keeper, but a solid enough stepping stone that will mean you'll field one less rookie early.

Also I've read 394k for Newman, not 294k.

Guns and rookies blokes guns and rookies  ;)

This feels like the easiest season to go guns and rookies but there’s so many mid priced traps that I’ll probably fall for

I think the best option is guns n rookies with the right mid pricer(or two) thrown in. The  trick is finding the right one/s.
If Libba goes 90+ He makes cash like a rookie with good scores and added job security to boot.

Apparently Docherty today has had a serious knee injury at Carlton training. Could be another ACL according to Sam Landsberger from the HS on Twitter.

I'm gutted, he is so important to us and the way we structure up on the field. He is a coach out there for a young team. He is irreplaceable, this really hurts a young team. We're really freaking lucky we grabbed Newman or we would be even more cooked than we are.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide, the recruiting team would be looking at what player they are taking next year with pick 2 in the draft.
;D ;D ;D ;D   defn of a pessismist - bloke in a carlton jumper!!!

We won 2 games last year. Gotta be realistic here, we needed Doc back healthy if we were to make a significant improvement. We're a bottom 2 side and just lost one of our 3 most important players along with Cripps and Curnow. We're banking on the kids to step up, but losing Doc is a huge blow.

Was looking forward to picking up docherty at a lower price this yr :(

With Docherty sadly out for the season I will build my team around this...

Laird, Whitfield, Williams
Mitchell, Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Kelly
Grundy, Gawn
Dangerfield, Smith, Heeney

Lloyd is too expensive and has only had one season at the top. Laird on the other hand continues to be a top 5 defender year in year out. Williams comes in and Shiel goes out... This means more midfield time for Whitfield who I think could improve him average by 10 points this season (was considering him even as a mid) Williams is just too much value to pass up! Was going to start him last year at 100k more and he played 1 final this year and killed it.

Not messing around with the mids. I have 5 out of the top 6. Macrae is the biggest question mark for me so I’m leaving him as an upgrade target. Mitchell will keep being Mitchell. Cripps and Oliver will only improve. Fyfe, when fit, is probably the best scorer in the game so if he has a full preseason he is in. Kelly I have winning the brownlow this year hence why he is in my side.

Gawn and Grundy are by far the best rucks in the game so why not start them both.

Danger will be the top forward in the game without a doubt and Heeney and Smith are just Uber consistent and will either improve or hold ground. Going to wait and see on Westhoff, pick up Franklin when he inevitably has a stinker and then can pick up someone like Wingard or Dalhous after I see how they are going at a new club.

Joe D locked if he lines up R1.
