I've been keeping an eye on him the past few weeks and i've been thinking of whether he would be very handy to get in defence to play out the bye's (especially in my situation with only Ridley on my bench playing and Murphy out). His consistency this year has been amazing with a lowest score of 84 which is pretty impressive. I haven't been watching Port Adelaide a crazy amount this year, is this because of a change in his role or?

He's certainly been consistent. But there's better options. Low ceiling.
Laird,Simpson,Yeo,Lloyd,Hurley,Sicily,Webster all averaging around 100 or more.

Ricochet

Yeh agree with ubeaut.
There's 10 boys averaging 98+ (excl Austin) and then there's Howe who was going at 100 until his stinker on the weekend.

Laird 110.9
Webster 108.3
Simpson 106.5
Lloyd 104.9
Sicily 104.5
Yeo 103.6
TMac 101.0
Hurley 98.9
Hurn 98.8
Ryan 98.3
Howe 96.3

I'd be looking at them over Jonas

I would only select my 6 premium defenders from that group of 7 right now.

I think you guys are missing his point, Jonas has had his bye so will cover all 3 byes for him, either becomes a keeper or trades him to a better defender after the bye.  The guys being suggested still have byes to come.  I guess it comes down to how many trades you have left and if you think he could be D6.  If you don't have many trades and don't think he could be a D6 then I wouldn't recommend it.

Yep, this is what i was thinking. I reckon he would be useful throughout the byes, and could possibly be a keeper as well with the form and consistency he's managed throughout the year so far.

Worth Considering especially if you are thinking of Doedee as D6. Will average more than Doedee and estimated to average 98 from Rd 11 so that is more than acceptable from a D6.

Locinator

If you HAVE to get a defender in this week as your D6 for whatever reason get him.

This is because he will probably finish with more total points from here on out with a lower average by virtue of his bye.

Jonas @ 95ave * 13 games = 1235
Hurley/Simmo D6 type @ 100 * 12 games =1200

If you can get Hurley in for say Doedee in R14, Hurley is still the better pick up after his bye, but if you need a defender this week, Jonas is your guy

Understand the logic, but its not like most people will be copping a zero when Hurley & Simpson have their bye (assuming careful planning).

Jonas may only outscore the rookie you field instead by 20-30 points that week (might even just break even with Doedee). Can Jonas then match it with Hurley & Simpson for the rest of the year? I am not so sure.

You're not factoring in the replacement rookie score for Hurley/Simmo in their bye.
So its 1200 + rookie score vs 1235

Agree with Monty.

You've also increased Jonas's and decreased Simmos current average. If we go on current form over the first 10 weeks:
Jonas @ 93.8 * 13 games = 1219
Simpson @ 106.5 * 12 games = 1278

Just on that alone, even if you do cop a 0 you'd still go Simpson for total points and if you can avoid a 0 in Rd12 (which most people won't have a problem with), then there is nothing to gain going Jonas.
