Okay - so now 2 weeks to go.

The last couple of rounds have been rough.  I am 5th with a deficit of 134 points.  I'm also 172 ahead of 11th so not yet guaranteed a top 10 finish.

Team after Round 21:

Yeo, Llyod, Simpson, Brayshaw, Laird, Hurley (Austin, JSmith)
Mitchell, Cripps, Danger, Oliver, Macrae, Fyfe, Coniglio, Crouch (JKelly, Spargo, Giro)
Gawn, Goldstein (Olango)
DSmith, Heeney, Westhoff, Gray, Mclean, Ahern (Fritsch, Battle)

Cash: $58,200
Trades : 1 (not much to gain keeping this secret anymore)

I've decided that its time I joined the ZTC (Zero Trades Club).  Since Round 15 I've had 2 trades left, my 2nd last was moving Sicily to Macrae in Rnd 19.

My options - (and I would love the thoughts of other coaches):

1. Trade JKelly to any M/F premium.  Thinking Menegola, Degoey or Wingard with this option.  Would give me a midfield bench of Ahern/Spargo/Giro and forward bench of (Fritsch/Battle).  Would be satisfied with the strength of onfield players, but would leave me over $150k unspent.

2. Trade Ahern to any M/F at $402k or less.  Best options: Acres, Boak, Caddy, Hewett.  Keeps my M/F link with Spargo and eliminates my greatest weakness F6.  In round 23, assuming JKelly returns, I can bench/loop Coniglio/Crouch or other Midfielder of choice.

3. Trade Fritsch to any M/F or Fwd at $407.6k or less.  Options include those immediately above (Ahern trade) as well as MRobinson, Darling, BBrown, CCurnow.  Also as above, in Rnd 23 JKelly returning allows bench/loop of any Midfielder of choice.

To be honest my only aim now is to stay top 10 and take away $1,000.  I will be happy with that.  The only way I see taking top spot is if BGrundy is injured 5 minutes into the game this weekend with everyone else in the top 10 having him as Captain.  Failing that, I need plenty to go my way over the next 2 weeks to get back on top, but willing to take a risk while protecting my top 10 spot.

What is people's advice?

I'd be going Ahern to Benny Brown mate. You need some big scores to get top spot, and Brown has Adelaide & St Kilda in the run home, probably the best out of all the ones you mentioned.

The rest seem solid, but not big scorers. Darling & Robbo would be the other ones I'd mention, but Darling has been in shocking form and Robbo has WC in R23.

Thanks Torp.

If going Benny Brown, I would want to trade Fritsch instead!  Ahern loses my DPP and could leave me really exposed in Rnd 23 if injury/suspension occurred this week.  Of course having Brown and Ahern from North would eliminate any loophole options too!

Darling hasn't been great since returning from injury, so agree a big risk there.  They have Melbourne and Brisbane, so scores should be more likely in his favour.

Robbo is one I see upside.  Can go big when the Lions dominate.  They play Gold Coast this week, and his last score against the Eagles was 124 (in 2016).  If Battle is out in Rnd 23, I can actually loop him and Ahern on the final day of games!  Can't loop in Rnd 22 though, so would have to play him straight up.

Anything would be better than the 40's I've had from Ahern/Fristch for 4 weeks in a row!!

Deadly6

If Giro and Spargo play you can't loophole your 9 premo Mids next week, so pointless having the extra unless an injury comes up. But you have to weigh that up with the risk of playing Ahern/Fritsch. I'd be bringing in Menegola and getting rid of Kelly. Menegola is a flat track bully and has Freo and Suns, while Danger, Jelly and Gaz relax.

First see if Ahern gets a game he has been very ordinary last 2 weeks Robbo is $402300 you said you have 402K is that 402 even? if so James Harmes and Caleb Daniel have been in good form last couple of weeks but agree with Deadly6 Kelly gone Menegola in  ;)

I think you are still a chance tho I recognise you are also a chance to miss the top 10. $150K leftover is not ideal but def Menagola for mine. Like you say it would leave you an excellent 22 with the keys probs being Fyfe, Mena & Goldy going big. Anyway, as usual, Good Luck!!! P.S. Maybe hold off until Mena & Fyfe actually walk out on the park.

Ringo

Kelly only has concussion so I would hold him as more than likely be back next week.

I would do Fritsch to Robbo and if Fyfe is a late out you can take a choice of Spargo or Ahern to cover not ideal but that is what I would do in your situation. Robbo has been in great form and will be a much better scorer for you than Ahern or Fritsch.

Looks like Caddy might've been the move to make.

To my great regret.  :-\

So I went with Menegola for my final trade, and that is looking like a great option.

Unfortunately, not having Grundy has cost me probably 400-500 points in just the last 8 weeks.  How different the overall would be if I had of been able to trade him in 6 weeks ago.

Although disappointed I can't win the overall, I will be satisfied if I can finish top 10 and take $1,000 to the bank.

Thanks for all the support and advice.  I look forward to next year being able to help someone from FF go to the top and stay there!

Top 10 would be fantastic mate, I would love to get some reward for the 1000s of hours I've put into this damn competition. Next year maybe.  :P

Did you captain Danger?

You might be back in calculations...

So didn't captain Danger or Macrae.  Have Fyfe 66 and Crouch 88.  Now in real danger of coming 11th.  Went Mitchell VC and leaving it in the hands of Gawn (who looks like saving me).

Need a big game from Cogs and maybe I might survive the onslaught from behind me!!

Good luck Chrispy Cogs having a good one and Gawn going well to ;)

Goldy chimes in with a nice 125. Good luck!
