#15
Wow - what a Round!! (15).

I VC'd Danger and decided to take it.  Before Saturday night I thought I was competing well against the top 10 so didn't want to risk going Mitchell or Fyfe in case injury struck.  Almost changed plans on Sunday after Titch got 181, but stayed firm (lucky for me as Fyfe or Oliver were my intentions!)

So now find myself back in 3rd (only 104 points adrift).  Reckon most of the top 10 used 2 trades (some going Stef to Grundy!!!).  Starting to believe I have the Team, Position and Trades to win the lot!

After Round 15:

LAIRD, SICILY, SIMPSON, LLYOD, YEO, HURLEY [Austin, J Smith (D/M)]

FYFE, MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, DANGERFIELD, J KELLY, COGNILIO, CROUCH [Angus Brayshaw (D/M), Giro, Spargo (F/M)]

GAWN, GOLDSTEIN [Olango]

HEENEY, WESTHOFF, GRAY, MCLEAN, D SMITH, Fritsch [Battle, Ahern (F/M)]

Cash in Bank $89,900

Trades:  1 Less than last week!  :)  Went Treloar to Josh Kelly.

Looking ahead I have to decide whether another trade is spent on Fyfe.  The top 10 all have him, so it is trade or cover.  I have Angus Brayshaw who scored 104 this week and that compares well to the other M9's people might be playing.  Pretty satisfied with the cover I have (so helping me to save trades).

What I need is better Captain choices.  Cost me 63 points this round.  I can think of another 2 rounds this year where I lost 50+ points (when Gawn got 70 something!).  If I can nail the VC/C decisions for the next couple of weeks I might just get in front.

My POD's at the moment - Goldy (0/10), Crouch (2/10), Hurley (2/10), Fritsch (2/10).
POD's Against - Grundy (8/10), McDonald (6/10), Dusty/Rockliff/Franklin (3/10)

*** Special thanks to Happy DEZ whose suggestion of Angus Brayshaw back in Round 11 could be the masterstroke of the season.  No other top 10 team has the D/M link.  Most have F/M and only one has a working D/F link.  With injuries starting to waste the remaining trades, a flexible DPP side could be a winning side.

Bully

Not sure how many trades left but you need to calculate the cost of running without a premo mid for 3-4 weeks. By my reckoning that's a minimum of 100 points. Tough call.

HappyDEZ

Rank 3 & closed the gap. No pressure. Hopefully Angus can keep going 90+. Either way he is looking decent cover. Fyfe sux even tho everyone has him. Tough decision there. Goldy holding his own vs. Grundy/Stef looks a big key for you. Heeney may be a problem for R16 & can Fritsch keep producing?. Good Luck!!!

Ringo

Not sure of trades left so this may be a luxury one if very few but have you considered Fitsch to Charlie Curnow. Blues play only one team in the 8 over the next 8 rounds so nice draw as well. Cheaper than Fristsch so you net 20k as well.  Could be a substitute POD with higher ceiling.

Monitor what the Top 5 are doing with Fyfe and decide whether to cover or not. You have strong mids if Brayshaw continues 90+ so may not fall far behind,

Definately a tough call Bully.  Looking at the other top 10 teams, they will either be fielding Holman/Ahern/Giro at worst.  At best Boak/Rockliff/Walters/Wingard instead of Fyfe.  I see Brayshaw maybe being 20 points less per round than the last group of players.  Maybe more around the 80-100 points loss over 4 weeks??

If Angus goes 90+ I will be happy with that covering Def/Mid.  Fristch my 80+ F6 doing okay too.  Want him as F7 - currently having to match Wingard/Walters/McDonald/Franklin scores so losing 10-20 each week!  Goldy has been matching Grundy/Stef the last few weeks, so 8 more rounds to go!!  Top 10 all have Heeney and Fyfe so cover/trades very important.  Ahern/Battle cover Heeney, Brayshaw/Giro cover Fyfe.

Ringo - I have trades, but not enough to consider Luxury trades (not for a couple of weeks anyway).  Need 1 trade to get Fritsch to F7.  Waiting for Battle/Ahern to make cash. After that, what I have left will be injury/cover trades.  If I run out with 2-3 weeks left, hopefully I will have enough luck left.

Im getting Curnow in this week. Looks like he is going to explode for the remainder.

SilverLion

Looks like you're tracking well Chrispy. Wouldn't be too concerned with those PoDs against, though as others have said you'll have to hope Goldy continues to match Grundy.

Was tracking well until news of Battle's injury.  Had an advantage of good cover until this leaves my forwards looking average.  Along with Heeney unlikely to play, i may have to trade fyfe using DPP?

Will be considering Curnow as one a few options.  Looking at trading out Fyfe, with Heeney to the mids and a forward to replace.

This way i still have the flexibility using only 1 trade so close the end.

Round 16:

Massive score of 2533 (I thought), but dropped 10 points further behind the leader.  Now 114 adrift, but in 2nd overall.

Kept Fyfe for an extra week to see who really is the best option for replacement.  Gaff looks the man, but might even consider holding a couple more weeks until Macrae?  (Why waste precious trades too early!!).  Thankfully Angus did his job with a fine 126 (HappyDEZ - If I get the big bucks you really deserve a % for this recommendation).

Goldy did awesome, but not having Grundy hurts again.  Just waiting for that one bad game from him (though it might never come)

After Round 16:

LAIRD, SICILY, SIMPSON, LLYOD, YEO, HURLEY [Austin, J Smith (D/M)]

MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, DANGERFIELD, J KELLY, COGNILIO, CROUCH, Angus Brayshaw (D/M) [FYFE, Giro, Spargo (F/M)]

GAWN, GOLDSTEIN [Olango]

HEENEY, WESTHOFF, GRAY, MCLEAN, D SMITH, Fritsch [Battle, Ahern (F/M)]

Cash in Bank $89,900

Trades:  Not enough for luxury trades.  Will reassess with 5 rounds to go.

My POD's at the moment - Fyfe/Brayshaw (0/10), Goldy (1/10), Crouch, Hurley, Fritsch (2/10).
POD's Against - Grundy (8/10), Gaff (6/10), McDonald/Walters/Neale (4/10)

Round 17 Outlook:  Grundy against Nic Nat?  Gaff against the Pies midfield?  Could they struggle for a decent score?  Brayshaw/Fritsch up against the doggies, so possibly do well.  Goldy against Sinclair - big test of his current form.

HappyDEZ

Another solid effort there Chrispy. Goldy, Fritter & Angus got the job done again. Maybe not perfect but if they can hold their own it saves burning a trade. You can only keep putting up decent scores & try to stay in the mix. As usual, Good Luck!!!

Nice work

Unfortunately like most you had a few downers but you had enough to get up and overtake.

Thanks Bundy.  Hard to believe I'm at the top as many have never had the fortune.

Will be a very difficult 6 rounds to navigate, but at least most of the top 10 had Gray like me.  Not many other issues for me right now.

Bully

Nervous times but you have all of FF to help where needed. You still have Fyfe up the sleeve which is massive. Fingers crossed from here. I'd also refrain from any talk about trades left in the bank, need to keep the competition guessing.

No probs.
Have been keeping an eye on your thread for a bit now.
That is a true point re Gray. Most have him.
Good luck.

I deleated my post as I didnt like it. Ha you beat me with the quote. All good

Round 17:

Score of 2514 enough to get to #1.

My POD's did well - Goldy, Brayshaw, Hurley.  (Not Crouch or Fritsch).
All the POD's against struggled - Grundy, Gaff, McDonald, Walters, Neale.

Still carrying Fyfe.  Brayshaw doing a great job, so holding onto my trades in case carnage takes hold!!  Reckon Gray misses next week and with Battle still out I won't have cover in the forwards.  Will explore if any trade options make sense long term to assist with that issue.  Otherwise will hold fire again this week.

After Round 17:

LAIRD, SICILY, SIMPSON, LLYOD, YEO, HURLEY [Austin, J Smith (D/M)]

MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, DANGERFIELD, J KELLY, COGNILIO, CROUCH, Angus Brayshaw (D/M) [FYFE, Giro, Spargo (F/M)]

GAWN, GOLDSTEIN [Olango]

HEENEY, WESTHOFF, GRAY, MCLEAN, D SMITH, Fritsch [Battle, Ahern (F/M)]

Cash in Bank $89,900

Trades:  Not enough for luxury trades.  Will reassess with 5 rounds to go.

POD's - To be reviewed

Round 18 Outlook:  To be reviewed

Thanks Bully.  Been keeping trades quiet for a while now.  If looking for advice I will continue to talk here on FF.  I'm a true believer in the theory - Wisdom of the Crowd.
