Chrispy75

So this is my 5th year playing Supercoach.  Think I have learned a bit over the last couple of seasons, but would really love the thoughts of the experienced fan footy forum!!

My team after Round 10:

Def: Laird, Simpson, Lloyd, Sicily, Yeo, Doedee (Murphy, Keefe)

Mids: Macrae, Fyfe, Mitchell, Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio, Martin, MCrouch (Phillips, Coffield, Barry)

Ruck: Gawn, Goldy (Olango)

Fwds: McLean, Gray, Heeney, DSmith, Ronke, Fritsch (Guelfi, Spargo)

Cash: 118,000.  Trades: More Wanted - but hopefully enough.

Summary:
Defence will be finished in Round 14 with Hurley after his bye.  Preferably with Doedee at D7.
Midfield obviously missing Danger.  Ideally get him after round 14 and have 9 premium midfielders to loop or trade worst prem to him in Round 15.
Rucks need Grundy or not and if so when?  Gawn shares the round 13 bye.  Ryder has injury concerns but was my preference until yesterday.  Will consider Nic Nat after Round 12 as an alternative?
Fowards are money makers, but also the ones to be traded right now.  Lottery on who to get after Round 11 (maybe Westhoff/Buddy).

Intended trades for Round 11:
Keefe/Murphy -> T Smith (via Coffield and Spargo)
Ronke -> Walters

Trades above keep the cash generation going.  Gives me cover in defence again.  Removes a non-playing player in time for the byes.  Fritsch kept for expected 85 ppg in current role, whereas Ronke is good for 70 only.  Too early for Guelfi/Spargo.

Bye Planning:  Thinking I should be okay.  In round 14 will probably use 3 trades to ensure enough on field.

So - what advice would people have for this team?

HappyDEZ

Gun side. If you think Angus is good enough for D6 maybe Ronke to Brayshaw via Sicily. One benefit would be an extra player on field for Round 12. At this stage you will have a FWD (E) & maybe 4 donuts down back.

Chrispy75

Thanks HappyDEZ,

There is a lot to like about your suggested trade.

1. Creates DPP for Defense and Forwards (Sicily and Keefe).
2. Creates DPP for Defense and Midfield (Brayshaw and Coffield).
3. Balances the Defense for Rnd 12 bye (moving Sicily to the Forwards).

It would mean I could use Brayshaw as a D7/M9 eventually.  Would still look at someone to be a F7/M9 as well.

I think TSmith is a definate trade in this week as well, so will consider Barry or Murphy (if not playing) to ensure I can get him in.

Although the popular trade this week is to get Walters as well, the Round 14 bye is not ideal.

Food for thought.

Chrispy75

Team after Round 11:
Overall Rank - 3rd
Bank $70,800
Trades: Probably not enough left!

Defence:
Rnd 12 Bye:  YEO, SIMPSON
Rnd 13 Bye:  Brayshaw, Keefe
Rnd 14 Bye:  LLYOD, LAIRD, Doedee, Murphy

Midfield:
Rnd 12 Bye:  MACRAE, MITCHELL, CRIPPS
Rnd 13 Bye:  OLIVER, CONIGLIO, Spargo
Rnd 14 Bye:  FYFE, CROUCH, MARTIN, Coffield, Phillips

Rucks:
Rnd 12 Bye: Olango
Rnd 13 Bye: GAWN, GOLDSTEIN

Forwards:
Rnd 12 Bye: MCLEAN, SICILY
Rnd 13 Bye: DSMITH, Fritsch, Guelfi, TSmith
Rnd 14 Bye: HEENEY
Bye Free:     GRAY

Analysis for Round 12:
Best case 20 players available (excluded Olango & Keefe).  Questions over Coniglio, Fyfe leave me with minimum 18 (assuming Coffield returns).  Would love to avoid trading if possible this week, as trades required for the following two weeks.  Most rookies still have cash to make, Spargo and Coffield the two most likely to go out if needed.

Future Trade Targets:  (excluding Rnd 14 Players)

HURLEY - Rnd 14.  Possilby for Doedee.  Leaves Brayshaw to cover Def/Mid eventually.
WESTHOFF/BOAK - Rnd 13.  Possibly for Guelfi.  Too many Rnd 13 forwards and Round 12 teams don't have good options (maybe JJK cheap).  Struggling to find downgrades for PTA, GCS and Round 12 teams to fund these moves.

Out of the box:  Could trade Macrae (700k) to Westhoff/Boak this week. Pocket $195k.  Have extra midfielder in case of Fyfe/Cogs out.  Depends on whether Macrae will return to his 140's again soon.  His contested possessions have reduced over the last 2 weeks and might only go 110 for the year now.

Really need to wait for teams, but with Thursday to Monday games, its gonna be a quick call to make.

Ringo

Not sure of trades and can understand with your excellent ranking but right with no trades this week if gods are kind.
Seriously consider Spargo to Ahern next week maintains DPP and gains 100k for upgrades.

HappyDEZ

Firstly, well done on moving up to 3rd. Lucky a calf complaint slowed Walters down. He smashed it early in the 2nd before said calf. Anyway it only cost a couple of points in the end & benefits your bye structure. Unfortunately the footy gods seem hell bent on decimating your midfield for this upcoming round. The Doedee to Hurley Round 14 trade nearly looks impossible to pass up. I would keep both rucks. It looks like you can still field a pretty strong R13 team even with the 2 ruck donuts. I think I counted 15 premos? Anyway, Good Luck, especially this week which looks like a giant headache.

Chrispy75

Ringo - Spargo to Ahern keeps the DPP, but doesn't help me field more in Rnd 13.  It might be my only option as you say to get an extra $100k.  Brodie is only option that helps me with fielding players but at $187k I'm not sure I can invest that money and trade.

Although rnd 14, I am tempted by Austin.   He might generate cash, but I would have to trade him again to see it. If teams are kind, then Mihocek becomes a great downgrade option at $102k after his bye.

Doedee to Hurley is about $70k at a guess. Next week Westhoff will be about $490k, Boak will still be around $480k.  Guelfi will get to $290k.  I will need $200k to make the trades.

Spargo - Ahern (+100k)
Guelfi - Westhoff (-200k)

Where do I get the other 100k, it I keep my bank of 70k for Doedee to Hurley.  If Coffield/Murphy not named, I could trade one of them to Austin?  Teams come out just before Thursday game, but I could do that trade before St Kilda game Saturday night.

HappyDez - I went with your Brayshaw suggestion.  Lost 3 points, but agree I have better bye structure.  Thought I was on a winner with Walters going off the ground, but he came back on.  :(

Walters in 6 of top 10 teams now and all of Top 5 (except for mine).

Brayshaw, along with Goldstein and M Crouch are now 100% POD compared to the top 10 teams.  Its pretty much the following:

Brayshaw vs Savage/Ryan
Goldy vs Grundy/Martin/Nic Nat
Crouch vs Danger

I reckon I lose more than win with the matchup above, but nobody in top 10 has a rnd13 premium defender (outside of 1st having T McDonald).  They will be wasting trades converting rnd 14 defenders!!

The top team has 4 prem rnd14 midfielders (Fyfe, Danger, Parker, Dusty)  That is where I might gain on him?

HappyDEZ

Angus getting a lot of uncontested ball so he really needs to get his DE up to 70+ to impress the flukey SC gods. I think he went low 50s on the weekend.

Chrispy75

Finally looked at the byes and possible upgrades to see where things will end up.

Rnd 12 Trades:

Keefe to Austin (-2k).  Adds a player to Rnd 12/13.  Reasonable scoring and Cash generation possible.
Dusty to Westhoff (-25k).  Adds a player for Rnds 12-14.  Dusty likely to miss Rnd 13 as well.
Tsmith to Ahern (+65k).  Swap of Rnd 13 player, but adds for Rnd 12.  Scoring should be reasonable.

Should have 19 on field (inc Spargo, Murphy, Guelfi).

Rnd 13 Trades:
Guelfi to Playing Mid Rookie (9/12) via Westhoff (est +150k).  Fixes bye shortage in Fwds.

Should have 19 on field (inc Murphy)

Rnd 14 Trades:
Doedee to Hurley (-70k).  Planned upgrade to Defence.  Rnd 14 trade to Rnd 13 player.
Murphy to Playing Fwd Rookie (9/12/13) via Sicily (+70k).  Gains cash and extra player for Rnd 14.

Should have 20 on field plus loop in Forwards.

Team at end of Rnd 14:

LLYOD, LAIRD, YEO, SIMPSON, SICILY, HURLEY (Brayshaw (D/M), Austin)
MACRAE, FYFE, MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, MCROUCH, CONIGLIO, Phillips (Coffield (D/M), Spargo (F/M), Rookie 9/12)
GAWN, GOLDSTEIN
MCLEAN, GRAY, HEENEY, WESTHOFF, SMITH, Fritsch (Ahern (F/M), Rookie 9/12/13)

Trades Remaining - Only a handful (sorry but not willing to be specific)
Cash in Bank - Approx 270k

Likely to do a third trade for Rnd 14 - Being Philllips +270k to Midfield Premo.  Will see what options present itself.  Could wait one more week and do Coffield to Non Playing D/M Rookie (to match with Brayshaw).  Then enough cash for Phillps to any Mid (ie Danger).  In time, Luxury trade will be Ahern/Fritsch to any Forward, but Fritsch at F6 is fine right now.

Pretty happy if I get through the byes using only 6-7 trades.  I would be hopeful that leaves me with enough to navigate Rnds 15-23.

Ringo

A little concerned that Austin may be gone next week when Carlisle returns. Can not see Saints playing three talls Brown, Carlisle and Austin in defence.  A risk if you are relying on him playing next week in my opinion.  One of the reasons I went Heron although his scoring will not be great he will play and happy to sit it at D8.

Like the other plans you have and best of luck through the byes and close on those in front of you.

Ringo, would it be better to pay 173k for Bailey Rice?

As I will be fielding 19-20 for the next couple of rounds, I really need every rookie to give decent scores 60+.  Can't afford to waste a player who will only get 40.  Having said that, at 102k, Heron does give me the max cash in return.

My other option is moving Coffield into defence and then I am looking at a MID rookie.

Chrispy75

I have survived the byes and have settled into 6th, around 200 points adrift of the leader:

Team after Rnd 14:

LAIRD, SICILY, SIMPSON, LLYOD, YEO, HURLEY [Austin, J Smith (D/M)]

FYFE, MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, DANGERFIELD, TRELOAR, COGNILIO, CROUCH [Angus Brayshaw (D/M), Giro, Spargo (F/M)]

GAWN, GOLDSTEIN [Olango]

HEENEY, WESTHOFF, GRAY, MCLEAN, D SMITH, Fritsch [Battle, Ahern (F/M)]

Cash in Bank $127,700

Trades: Bare minimum with 9 rounds remaining.

Fritsch will remain at F6 until I can find a suitable fallen prem in the forward line (or Defence if I switch Sicily forward).  Ideally only want to use 1 trade with my cash to achieve this aim.

For now, pretty happy with the cover and DPP options I have so will focus on getting my Captain options correct (missed some great chances the last 2 weeks).

Just hoping Goldy continues his big scores and if Crouch can get some form, they will be my big POD's in the top 10.

Bring in Buddy as your fallen premium this round?

Bring in Buddy as your fallen premium this round?

Mongoose, interesting thought.

Only 3 of the top 11 teams currently have Franklin, so he would become a POD for me.

My only concern is that Buddy would be a rollercoaster.  He goes very big, or very small.  Would ideally be looking for someone with stable scoring.  The other concern is I would need to go Fritsch to Buddy, leaving Ahern/Battle as my F7.

I've got to deal with the Treloar issue in my midfield, so its now a question of how many trades do I need to get through 9 rounds!

HappyDEZ

I don't mind the Buddy idea but with Treloar out it's irrelevant. Like it or not it has to be Kelly. Struggling to even find a choice. Pendles? Neale?
