WhatsSC???

Hey all,

What's happened to dusty!!  seems like he's fallen off the cliff with his scoring..

His scores - 139, 160, 93, 141, 91, 88, 87, 64

I haven't watched many Richmond games but is he stuck up in the fwd line too often?? I know jacobs went to dusty for his 64..  but is he possibly carrying an injury or whats peoples thoughts??

Avid Richmond supporter here.

There are a few factors for his lower scores.
- In round 3 (93) against the hawks he copped a bad corkie, and didn't move well for the last part of the game.
- Since round 4, he has played forward a lot more than last year, as Richmond's forward line is pretty shower tbh. Caddy and Riewoldt only play 2-3 quarters a game, and Castanga & Butler & Higgins are not great, so we rely on Dustin to create a target and contest down there. He kicked 6 against Brisbane which resulted in his 140, but when he doesn't hit the scoreboard the SC points don't come.
- He has copped a lot more attention around stoppages this year compared to last year (eg. today he was towelled up by Jacobs)
- He has also looked a bit off, which could be due to an injury. He lacks the 2017 explosiveness out of contests, and his efficiency has been awful.

But I think over the next few weeks the opposition will realise that they need to give more attention to guys like Cotchin and Lambert who link up well through the corridor, which is how Richmond break teams open, which will take attention away from Martin. Hopefully whatever he is carrying also goes away soon too.

WhatsSC???

Thanks for answer....!!!

might be bold over the next few rounds and switch him to dangerfield...   Just do I or don't i pull the trigger...

I'm hoping he gets back into his scoring 100+ though and saves me thinking about this whole sideways trade

I wouldn't trade him, especially not to Danger.
Dangerfield has basically been in the same situation as Martin this season; both seemingly carrying some sort of injury, both playing a heap of time forward, both had very big scores and pretty poor scores.

Martin has lost a lot of value, but he's one of the best players in the comp (unlike Billings and Goldstein), so he will turn this form around I guarantee it. Plus Richmond is going to need him over the next month too before the bye against WCE (away), Geelong and Port (away).

Agree with Jimmy for the most part. Some of the issues are little things like positional changes and a bit more attention - e.g., today, with Jacobs locking him out.

From watching, my opinion is a lot of it is just form. He's not influencing stoppages like last year, isn't creating as much space when he gets the ball, and his kicking in particular has been hopeless. I expect this to straighten out and definitely wouldn't trade him.

I also have Goldy and Billings so take that with a grain of salt  :P

Ahh it's a funny ol' game SC.
Dusty has the history like Buddy of dropping in value at some point, while still ending up among the top scorers.
In hindsight, leaving him out would have made you regret it after 2 rounds, but now looks to be a master stroke.
I'd kill for a JOM > Dusty trade for 100k about now.

batt

Was almost exactly the same price at this time last year.

Guess who traded him in after two rounds, panicking he was the new Danger.

What should we do with the Dust-bin?
(assuming that he doesn't play Rnd 12-14)

Keep
Martin's obviously been carrying an injury lately, and Richmond has finally said enough's enough and are giving him a break. Maybe this will be the turning point of his season? He scored 139, 160 and 140 in his first 4 games of the year, so he obviously still has the capabilities, and a 3 week break could be what he needs to come out for the last 8 games of the year and dominate.
Also, at $480k, the value in wasting a trade and a fair amount of cash to upgrade him is not great.

Trade
It's very difficult carrying a premo through the byes that is going to provide a total of 0 from 3 games.
However, I think the potential options are very limited:
Macrae/Fyfe: Both will drop in price a lot in the near future (about -50k in their next 2-3 games), and Fyfe is only playing once in the next 3 weeks.
Treloar: One of the better options, is underpriced, however has his bye next week.
Westoff/Boak: Had their bye already

What do you reckon?

Ringo

If Dusty does not play next week will consider trading him to Cripps who I do not have.

Breakeven of 190 not a factor?
