When it's okay to trade sideways

Just depends whether you think the player will stay a keeper as well.

I'm torn on whether to upgrade Armo (BE 27) to Dusty, or trade Bont.

Armo will make money, and Bont will drop, but is more likely to be a keeper in the end.

I just know that whoever I trade out, the other will hit 120+...

I agree with your logic of using a few trades to adjust your team. Usually we burn about 4-6 trades correcting rookies, though this year we (mostly) haven't needed to.
My issue is with who you've chosen to bring in for Hibberd. You used Shaw as an example of one who burnt people last year, I can see it happening again. Last year he wasn't needed so much, as Williams carried the load. This year it seems as if Whitfield is stepping into that role. Shaw will be used as an accountable small defender as he was last year when they needed him to be. This will limit his ceilings in those games, translating to a lower season average.
I can see him being an 85-90/game defender from here, though I still see Hibberd as a 90/game defender. If you need the 87k then go for it, though I value a trade and the points a bit higher.

This. It’s a gamble to trade down to Shaw or even say, Ryan. Good cash grab, and could pay off in spades, but still a gamble. If you can gain a premium on fire, then go for it. I’m trading Hibberd and Armitage for Dusty and Taranto (have cash in the bank), so I look at it as two, I suppose, sideways trades to get a top three scorer and a mid price fwd who might end up a keeper for a mid priced mid who would need upgrading later. Win, win. (I hope!)

Speaking of sideways, thoughts on trading billing’s to Gibbs via dpp?

If Billings is your biggest concern ur doin ok. I wouldn't trade to a mid if it means playing an extra fwd rookie especially with Ryan,Langdon injured and Venables not scoring well. I presume you'd move Garlett fwd and play him over a mid rookie?

No got Taranto in my mids, would move him into forwards and Gibbs for billings. Got one forward rookie on ground.

Id keep billings, hes gonna be a keeper, these scores aren't uncharacteristic of him, hes gonna put in some big ones too, you can guarantee that!
