We need a team mate to trip Sicily so he lands on top of Selwood with a knee in the kidney or head.    Accidental no suspension.    Selwood walks a fine line and gets the rub of the green from the referrees about time he was taken out.

Very much agree. He's what I'd call a dirty clean player, sticks within the rules (just) and reaps the rewards like there's no tomorrow. I do not respect him as a player, as he is always looking for a way to suck the umps in and get stuff to go his way. That little shoulder drop he does has become an instinct action, he does it every single time he's about to be tackled. That is turning a perfectly good tackle into one that appears to be high. He's taking advantage of the rules and the umpiring, and that in itself deserves a suspension imo. Tbh if I was Sicily I would've hit him a helluva lot harder. At least his suspension would be consoled by the fact that Selwood would be out for a few weeks too.

Dont hate the player hate the game.

im sure if you focussed on every player you would see 100s of borderline things that break the rules, like holding and blocking.

If you want to play for free kicks and you get away with it then thats on the umpires not the player.

dropping your knee on the face of anyone is dirty, Sicily should have probably got a free kick thats it, nothing selwood did was suspension worthy. Umps missed a call thats it.

selwood takes plenty of hits and plenty off the ball that arent called too.

there is no excuse for what sicily did and he was lucky to get 1 week.

Not sure I understand the negativity towards Selwood. He plays as a professional should. Full stop.

Sicily on the other hand doesn't look like growing up any time soon.

Is exploiting the rules to gain an advantage considered professional?

Fwiw I have always and will continue to dislike Duckwood, McLean, Mathieson and Christensen because of it - I'm not bias towards or against anyone that does it (though I try hard to pretend Matho and Bundy don't do it ;D). I understand the umpires are in part at fault, but the onus is almost entirely on the players here. If players are going out of their way to refine techniques that put themselves in harm's way to get a free kick then I'm sorry, but there's just no way to look at it other than cheating/exploiting the rules.

It's probably true that every player does borderline things at various stages; but it's no coincidence that Duckwood has received the most high free kicks over the last decade (and by a long, long way too).

Absolutely. Nobody has to like it, but he's damn good at provoking error in other players  - exposing their less capable techniques.

Professional enough that I'd have him teaching the skills.

A professional doesn't make the rules, but he sure as heck works out how to exploit them better than anyone else.

Why can't his opposition develop their skills to a better standard is the more appropriate standard, seems a better question to me.

Duckers try to get caught high. In other words, they deliberately put themselves in harm's way to get a free kick. It's a miracle none of them have broken their necks or something because of it. I certainly wouldn't be advocating what they do, no-one likes seeing players having their head's ripped off in a tackle. The whole thing is against the spirit of the game imo.

They make it sound like he's receiving prize money  ::)

Sheesh, how many weeks for Conor McKenna biting Dickson? Anything less than 3 would be a surprise.
