WhatsSC???

Hey all,

As the topic subject states what are peoples thoughts on Jake Kelly...  I know Smith is out for the season and he has been a bit of a lockdown defender in the past, have they possibly given him more freedom to play the smith role?
I'm concerned if i do run with him Seedsman/Hampton could slide back into Smith role and Kelly goes back to lockdown again, thoughts??

Money Shot

Although he could breakout and go 80+ I think with all the rookies on offer down back (Coffield, Naughton, Doedee, Murray, Finlayson) there is no need to take a punt on him.

my thoughts are he could end up being D6 and for that price is good value...

I don't think i'll follow through with it with too much uncertainty, maybe in years to come he'll be the next Laird or Smith...

I do agree plenty of cheaper options in Def, but i see you need to take a couple of left field picks to get a leg up over the pack...

This is actually a misconception. Most of the winners in the past have started with fairly standard teams and have made bold
decisions mid or late in the season that have paid dividends. Dimmawitts trading out Cloke a few years back when he was dominating was an example of playing the market that gave him an edge. Cloke then had a few poor games when a lot of the top teams were trading him in etc.

Agreed MC... but doesn't always need to be at the mid or end of the season...

If you want think about it more, generally the best team you don't need to spend all your $10 mill cap before rd1 starts... I remember reading an article last year they did a best rd1 team after 5 rounds and i think you had like 600-700k in the bank after choosing the team...

If you get Kelly for $324k, and he ends up being a top 6 defender, majority of people won't get him till after the bye, so you end up with a keeper for less $$, and more $$ to spend elsewhere... in the meantime you have also more points coming in each week for possibly half the season...

MC

Yes but if it was that easy then everyone would do it! The trick is picking the right one... If you stuff it up it can ruin your season almost instantly!

What. The. flower.

TomK

Yeahhhhhhhhh, nah.

He'll continue to play his lock down roles, he might get a bit more of the ball due to natural progression but won't be anywhere near the top 20 defenders I wouldn't think.

Smith's role will be taken up by a combination of guys also.

Absolutely no chance. Not SC relevant.

Blues Blues Blues

I thought the thread title was relating to Josh Kelly.

Then opened and read and saw it was Jake.

Really? Nothing to see here - let’s move on
