How many trades remaining? Seem to have made a hell of a lot of changes, particularly luxury changes.

Really different approach to trading but leftfield can often work, you've definitely saved a bundle of cash by avoiding the super premos from the outset. Zorko is a boom/bust selection, brave but could pay off in spades.

Worst case scenario, his ridiculous ceiling and ability to vanish when tagged makes him the perfect M9 loophole later down the track. Fully expecting some 50s to go along with the 140s but hopefully I can cherry pick most of the good scores when it gets to that point.

16 after this week. The team in the OP of the thread was slightly different to the team I actually started (didn't end up picking Buddy, GAJ, Sandi, Lynch, Hutchings and Naughton for example). The only real luxury trade I made was jumping off Jaeger prematurely but that allowed me to bring in Macrae who has given me an extra 36ppw from that point onwards. Guys like Libba, Redden, Fiorini and Rioli had to go obviously. Every year I start with an unusual amount of mid-pricers/speculative picks, some pay off nicely (Hogan, Sicily, Coniglio, Lycett, Dunkley) and others fail miserably, but overall I've got a pretty solid track record with my gut feel selections. I go in knowing some picks are going to flop and that always gives me an opportunity to trade aggressively and make up some ground, and I'll continue to be aggressive until the side is complete, at which point I'll just sit tight and hope for no LTIs.

Round 8

Score: 2312
Rank: 434

Simpson, Shaw, Ryan, Johannisen, Doedee, Finlayson (Duman, Mirra)
Macrae, Fyfe, Mitchell, Dangerfield, Cripps, Pendlebury, Zorko, Kelly (Higgins, Spargo, Barry)
Gawn, Lycett (Olango)
McLean, Sicily, Heeney, Hogan, Smith, Christensen (Giles-Langdon, Guelfi)

A fourth consecutive 2300+ score has seen me crack the top 500 for the first time since about this time last year. I ended up going through with Coniglio > Zorko which freed up 100k and netted me an extra 21 points after week one. Danger (137) was a solid unique captain choice while Ryan (125) and the aforementioned Zorko (121) were my main PODs who had decent weeks. The only real downer was the Pendles late out which cost me at least 50 points as it meant I had to cop Higgins (51) instead.

Got 240k in the bank so I'll be bringing in Laird for Finlayson, one of the few popular players that is killing me for not having him at the moment. Bundy is starting to flower me off but I think I'll hold until I can get him to Gray after Port's bye. I'll then look at going early on Phillips or possibly Keeffe as a downgrade, the latter would open up a def/fwd link with Sicily which could be handy if he gets dropped. After that it will be all about building a war chest to bring in some Port premos after their bye.

See ya in a couple of weeks.

Round 9

Score: 2360
Rank: 252

Round 10

Score: 2632
Rank: 59

On a bit of a dream run at the moment. Fairly sure that was my highest ever SC score which ranked 22nd for the round and now puts me at 59th overall, 404 points behind the #1 ranked team. Last week I downgraded Higgins to Phillips and upgraded Kelly to Dusty which turned out to be good timing. The backline averaged 118 this week which is pretty ridiculous, I emergency loopholed JJ on Friday night so was able to avoid his 42 and play Mirra instead. Was good to see Heater (149) in particular finally pump out a big one while Lukey Ryan (136) continues his good form with a third consecutive 120+ score. Having a very underrated season.

Rockliff is no-brainer this week with a BE of 25 and will make a nice M9 loophole with Zorko. The latter has a date with Ben Jacobs this week so he can have a spell. Second trade still to be decided but will be looking at the Port boys & Grundy.

The progression of Ada's team from Round 1 is the definition of genius.

or Fluke.  ;)

Rocky a really good call, pefect M9. Reckon you'll do well over the byes too.

Round 11

Score: 2152
Rank: 56

First poor round in about 8 weeks but I still somehow managed to move up three spots in the overall rankings. Christensen getting knocked out on -3 was soul destroying while a 41 from Rockliff on debut wasn't ideal either. Grundy (134) was brought in for Lycett and he justified the price tag.

Round 12

Score: 1769
Rank: 14

A decent score compared to most which was enough to catapult me up to 14th overall and keeps me within striking distance of the #1 team. I only had 18 playing after Duman was a late out but luckily Spargo's 52 wasn't the worst 18th score. I had Dusty for two weeks and that was enough so I traded him to the real GOAT at sub-500k and was rewarded with 302 points as skipper. I also brought in Boak & Austin for Christensen & Mirra. Trav had 4 clangers from his first 5 disposals so it was pretty impressive that he ended up on 74 and only 5 points less than his DT score. It was good to see Rocky (100) put up a decent score but after watching him the past two weeks I'm glad he's only going to be M9 after the byes.

Might be a good idea to keep my cards close to my chest with trades given my ranking but seeing as I should have 18 playing before trades I might look to set myself up for R14.

Bully

Awesome effort, your calls have been brave but generally correct, nice to see a left field approach winning out.

After Macrae, Boak and McLean's efforts last night I panicked and brought in Hurn (was 2k short of Yeo), JJK and Brander with minutes remaining to try and make up some ground. A whole 134 points between them. There goes any chance of overall.

Gotta keep to your long-term strategy, preserve trades and ignore short term woes.

How'd you go over the weekend mate?

Haven't looked at the side since Friday night. It will depress me too much.

Hahah, yeah that's how I felt the week before.
