Hadn't really considered Payne as rookie option tbh. What do you reckon GL and co?
Would have to push someone like Gardiner out of the side, which I can't see happening. Andrews, McStay, Gardiner the preferred tall defenders atm.
+1

Expect him to come in during the year at some stage though, good downgrade option to keep in mind.

Payne is being groomed for the long term full back position. On that basis barring injury he may spend the mjority of the year in the NEAFL while he continues to develop.

I still think this strat is possible if Sicliy is F5 and an O'Conner or Cole type gets a gig

Mantis

Doubt Cole will play R1 cos he has his dads funeral I’m happy to pick him just want to know what his Job security is like at west coast, had a decent JLT just don’t know how he slots in

Anyone with mail on Mohocik?

The Pies seem pretty content with Dunn at fullback for some reason, so don't think well see Mihocek early in the season.

Wouldn't be a bad slow burner at D8 though if he was to get named.

with coffield out no chance

im running 3 premos with byrne murray naughton (doeede, finalyson) i feel that is weak enough. Im prepared to skimp in the midfield to make sure this line is solid.

any weaker and 1-2 guys getting dropped can really come back to bite you. If you have 6 rookies your relying on 4 of them to play every week just to name a team. I feel much better relying on 3 out of 5. Given that 6th guy is the worst rookie pick up.

Yeah Coffield out throws things. Looks like you're only relying on 2 out of 4 as Byrne isn't a rookie? And who's the worst rookie? Finlayson? How come?

im treating byrne as a rookie.

what im saying is if your deciding between 5 and 6 rookies then if you go with 6 rookies that 6 rookie you pick is the least desirable rookie.

e.g.

lets say Naughton Murray Doeede Finalyson are the good options. Then if your running 5 or 6 rookies thren your picking the least desirable options.

I'm in agreeance with Holz on this one.

Only those 4 rooks Naughton Murray Doeede Finalyson are looking the goods.

Chances of Keefe/Murphy getting named are slim but keeping a spot and providing cash production is next to no chance. Name any other guys around that mark that will get a gig. Coffield not named ruins any chance of 4 on field rookies.

I'm happy to dg Heeney to Sicily to upgrade worst rook to Byrne.

$229k for Byrne who should go 75 I'm happy to pay.

I've pretty much canned this as well. Downgraded Dunkley to a rookie and have put Angus Brayshaw in at d3. Not really happy with the change, but didn't want to mess with the rest of my side.

Viney out for 2 months might help his mid time a bit.

Think this is the best way forward.

Pick Keefe at D8, loop Doedee for a couple of weeks and closely monitor all the rookies, Venables, O'Conner, Murphy, Waterman, Barry etc.

If none perform by round 3 keep the loop going. If one stands out then swing Sicily to the backline & bring in a forward. Could even do this with the mids if you have Garlett.

My reading of the situation is it will be tough to pick the right one out of this batch so a remedial trade will be required in any case.

Heard a couple of people talking up Bonner but I’m not sure why? I think Byrne would be a much more solid option. Bonner locked into Port best 22?
