Counterpoint 2: He was ranked no.1 for HOTA in 2017
Again it's a small sample size. Apart from the last 2 games he had 10 or less hitouts in 12 games. Never went over 14 in the rest.

Granted it's a small sample size but looking at the circumstances, he's tall & will be feeding arguably the best midfield in the comp. Happens quite often when a ruck takes the number 1 mantle and dominates. Witts, Ryder & Nank last year, Stef Martin a few years back, even the much maligned Belcho managed 91.

I actually like the lobb pick i just cant pick a guy with a bad preseason

But has he actually had a bad one?

I know he has been managed to an extent because of groin issues which is def a worry, but if he has been actively training or even running/staying fit then I wouldn't think that's too bad. Does anyone actually know?

It's the guys who have missed massive chunks and not trained at all that I def want to stay away from

Has been carefully managed & could have played in the JLT.

Counterpoint: he's 207cm.

:P

Then go mason cox

100k cheaper and 4cm taller :p
I'd be all over him if he was a sole ruck haha.

I want a 400k player to play 1 preseason game. Even if it was just half a game.

I saw that from billings buddy heeney and smith so they are fighting for my 3 forward premo spots

3 goals & plenty of ruck time.

This guy is completely overrated on here.

This is not a Witts 2017 “team-changing” bargain. He’s 400k with no JLT under his belt.

Best case scenario seems to be he averages 90, which is what you NEED for a player that costs 400k because they must be a keeper at that price.

And what reward do you actually get for taking the risk if it happens to come off? Save 50-80k (at best) off players that are safer chances of averaging 90+?

Just not worth it.

I feel like to do well and I mean really well you need to take punts on guys like this, everyone can just make a guns and rookies team but taking educated risks is how you do really well.

in saying that i came 178th in 2015 and apart from that i have always done pretty average hahaha

I don't think he is over rated, but I do agree that starting him doesn't really come with a heap of reward other than saving a bit of cash to use elsewhere vs just waiting and seeing how he goes for the first few rounds first. If he can come out with 2 or 3 good scores and prove he is a legit pick then grab him - those who started him aren't going to have much of a gain over the rest of the comp

Well if it comes off you get a Top 6 FWD for $396K ($3K cheaper than Andy Otten lol). Obviously no pre-season is a genuine concern but 108 & 129 as sole ruck in the PF & GF has to bring him into serious consideration. Atm I don't have him but if he is named for Round 1, which it looks like he will be, I can probably kiss goodbye to another couple hours of my life.

After back to back terrible seasons including one of those where he was a popular pick due to his price and high HOTA numbers.

'Carefully managed' is not a good thing to say about any player. That's an instant cross in my book.

Have really looked into him for the first time this season and if he is named round 1 without Simpson he is in my side.

Number 1 ruck who is a gun at hit outs to advantage with one of the best midfields in the comp at his feet. Although he has been managed he has still had some game time put into him.

Greene down to Lobb seems smart.

Exactly. 2 good scores R1 & R2 from Lobb, then everyone can use a correction trade on one of their underperforming premiums/midpricers to bring him in. No big deal.

Feel more confident on it failing than succeeding right now though, so I am happy to wait and see.
