Thought it might be a good time to start looking at my 2018 team. Hoping to carry forward my 2017 rank into 2018, but safe to say I am very very worried and uncertain about how to go about this season.

That's my ranking history from 2017, what I'll be basing my 2018 off of.

There's my first draft for 2018, my reasons for picking such players will probably be explained in posts in the P&T Board. Obviously it's subject to change with 9 days to go still.

Dangerfield injured don't think going to play rd1 have to wait till tommorow to confirm and I wouldn't keep him in the team as his price will drop when he comes back and you will be lossing points if you keep him on bench. LDU just not worth the money, not going to be a good SC player from the get go, same with Dow. Lycett ain't going to cut it at R2, I have him but play to remove and when Nicnat might play early in the season, don't see the point. Other then that nice looking team.

I just think having Lycett at R2 is a disaster waiting to happen.

Where's Rocky?
I feel maybe u haven't spent the cash saved by having Lycett well enough to justify him.
Maybe it's the 4 200k rookies. If Danger misses then getting Titch/600 k mid instead, and downgrading 2 of Rayner/Dow/LDU would give u cash to get another premo ruck and/or strengthen other areas.
Love the Sloane and Buddy picks tho.
And well done last year btw. Best I've done is top 700.

The Dangerfield one is interesting, I think even if he misses Rd 1 I will want to start him. He's in 21.3% of teams right now, that's really low for the best scorer in the game. I wasn't really aware of the rookies at the original post, so yeah LDU and Dow are gone. Lycett is still one i like and he's scored before when playing behind Nic Nat (Made a post in the ruck thread about it), but certainly seems like too much of a risk.

I actually hadn't spent the money at all, I made the team without looking at the cash left, turned out it had $300k leftover ;D I've never owned Rocky in SuperCoach, playing for Port won't change that. Buddy is a lockity lock, all this talk of fwd's suck etc yet there's plenty of sides without Franklin, that surprises me.

Above is the current setup of my side, 5 spare spots in it $1.1mil to spend on them, so looking at one premium and 4 rookies I guess.

Think you need a premo at D3, Savage would be my suggestion.

Round 2 Score: 2236
Overall Rank: 19,956 (-5,421)
Trades Left: 30 (The screenshot above includes one of my trades for this week though)

Firstly, the comparison to 2017. I've scored 200 odd points more than this time last season, I'm ranked ~10k higher as well. If I had the same amount of points as I did last season I'd be in the 50k range so you can see that this is a high scoring year, rookies like Kelly, Doedee, Finlayson are proving their worth.

Now for my trades, this is where it gets interesting. First trade that I've already locked in is Cameron Rayner (BE 61) to Liam Ryan (BE -84). Starting Venables over Ryan hasn't cost any points as he'd have been benched anyway, but Rayner has been rubbish and I have no interest in sitting through a price drop. That trade is locked away, leaving me with $196,900 in the bank. As for the second trade, I've narrowed my options down to two guys that I trade out. One is Aaron Naughton (BE 25), the other is Marcus Bontempelli (BE 175).

So one that sticks out is obviously Naughton to Bonner (BE -44), doesn't really need any explanation. However the removal of Bont excites me more. The notes that most would notice with my side are the following: No underpriced premiums/midpriced picks, and also I'm starting 3 rookie fwds (what a disaster so far). So a move of Bontempelli to Devon Smith (BE 55) not just moves a fwd rookie off the field (Garlett benched for Brayshaw after DPP) it will leave me with over $300k in the bank to make a full Naughton upgrade after this week (Hurley, Howe, Yeo) along with another downgrade. Doing this means I skip on Coniglio who will have a huge price rise this week, and obviously Bonner.

Thoughts on this? Or do I take the Bont price fall and just get Bonner?

JOM looks a bigger problem in your side IMO than Naughton. Naughton can sit on the bench and be a slow burn.

JOM at his current scoring isn't going to be a keeper or make you enough cash. Can you upgrade him to Coniglio somehow?

I'd be holding Bont for now.

Ringo

I'd also hold Bont and look at Naughton to Bonner.  Bonner is predicted to rise a further 58k this week so if you want him as a stepping stone now is the time to get him.

Is JOM that bad to hold for another week though? His BE is 41 he's scoring 60s minimum and plays a leaky Richmond next. Why can't he be the slow burn and hopefully get to $400k then I can upgrade? Also By going Bont -> Devon I have $300k leftover so I could upgrade him next week if I wanted to.

Yep that's true and that's why I'm considering him, I just don't like that I have to play 3 fwd rookies on field each week. Naughton will still rise in price after this week. I could if I wanted to really cash in is go Bont -> Bonner, catching the price rise and avoiding the Bont drop.

Bulldogs have had 2 really shower weeks. I'd be giving Bont at least another week or so before making that move.

Naughton to Bonner as suggested by Ringo looks a sensible trade also.
