Hi guys, just thought I would start a discussion about picking a defender who might not be at a full premium price, but who people think would be the most likely to become a full premium scoring defender.

I am including the following players as I think they are the most common selections but I am open to anyone else who people think can push to be a full premium defense player.

- Nick Vlastuin ($430,100)
- Pearce Hanley ($428,000)
- Dane Rampe ($427,400)
- Callum Mills ($403,100)
- James Sicily ($402,800)
- Paul Seedsman ($300,200)

I am thinking of going with Callum Mills, as he is about to start his 3rd year after what seemed to be a typical 2nd year blues year last year, and he has looked good in the JLT games to me and ready to take his game up a level.

Sicily the pick of the bunch you've mentioned.

Money Shot

Sicily would be my pick as well as he has the forward DPP as well as the perfect round 12 bye.

Hanley would be my next favourite too take the cake as he has shown that he can score well in the past but the round 10 bye and poor JLT is enough for him to put me in the wait and see bracket.

Seedsman would be number 3 in line as he is cheap enough to make so decent money if he scores 80 throughout the early weeks which seems highly possible, don't think he has it in him to be a keeper though.

Mills/Vlaustin don't really appeal to me as I think they are both likely to average 80 or so but not make much cash and not be bad enough to trade out.

Sicily >>> Hanley > Seedsman >> Mills > Vlaustin

Weits

108 66 89 113 to end the year last year
106 in the JLT this week
No Dochers so can increase his marks
3rd year break out

350k would be my pick of the bunch. Im not picking anyone in this category though. Lots of cheap options

Sicily or Vlastuin seem the pick of the bunch for mine. Hanley out for 6 weeks rules him out of my plans unfortunately.

Vlastuin once he returned in rd 17 averaged 92.3 over 10 games (including finals) with 4/10 of his scores 110+
I wouldn't rule him out as a top choice defender!

Has to compete with Ellis, Rance and Houli though. Not sure all 4 could go 90+

I see what you're saying, though if you look at their averages, they're all performing well enough over that period of time to be keepers:

                  Rd 17-23        Rd 17-GF
Ellis:             93.57              82.7
Rance           86.14              86.3
Houli             86.4               86.75
Vlastuin        93.14             92.3

*Houli suspended rd 17 & 18

So if anything, Vlastuin playing as he did took more away from Rance/Houli comparably with their season-long averages, and Ellis had a stinker of a finals series which isn't great.
