On that 22 I assume Reid chops out for Sinkers? No love for Towers?

I'll have a crack at the Saints

Jarryn Geary, Nathan Brown, Jimmy Webster
Dylan Roberton, Jake Carlisle, Shane Savage
Jack Newnes, David Armitage, Jack Sinclair
Jack Billings, Josh Bruce, Hunter Clark
Jade Gresham, Paddy McCartin, Tim Membrey

Billy Longer, Jack Steven, Seb Ross

Blake Acres, Luke Dunstan, Jack Steele, Nick Coffield

reckon that last spot could go to either Coffield or Gilbert, and I pray it's Coffield
I’ll be a little p!ssed if Coffield and Clark don’t line up in R1.
Both have been impressive and shown they are ready.
There was one shining minute against Carlton in JLT1 where they both won their own ball in consecutive plays and in the JLT game against Melb Coffield hit Paddy McCartin twice lace out whilst Clark showed some mongrel, tackling like Lenny Hayes at one point and throwing Nathan Jones down in a show of strength.
I have no fear in selecting them in my SC team, just need to see them named.

^Gilbert might be in the 22 but he’s not best 32 for mine... hoping he’s out too.

Money Shot

Best 22 for 2018 (Excluding Docherty)

FB: Marchbank, Jones, Plowman
HB: Simpson, Weitering, Byrne
C: Kennedy, E. Curnow, Lang
HF: Wright, Casboult, C. Curnow
FF: Thomas, McKay, Silvanghi
R: Kreuzer, Cripps, Murphy

IC: SPS, Fisher, Dow, Williamson

EMG: Cunningham, Pickett, Garlett

Depth that should get a decent amount of games throughout the year: O'shea, Mullet, O'brien, Graham, Kerridge, Lamb

DEF: Carlton actually have a really good defence with a lot of young guns who will be play 200+ Games. Weitering, Marchbank and Plowman are all locked into our defensive back 6 and will be for years to come. Jones was the surprise packet of last year and has become one of the best Full Backs in the league and Simmo is our general of the half back flank. Byrne is my pick to take the other flank that has been left by Docherty and has just pushed O'shea and Mullet out of the spot. Byrne is rated really highly with in Carlton and showed enough to lock him self into the best 22, Williamson will also come off the bench into the rotations as he did everything right last year. (Mullet and O'shea are both capable at AFL level but don't think there is a spot for them in our best 22)

MID: Cripps, Murphy and Ed Curnow have been in our midfield rotation in previous seasons and that won't be changing this season. Kennedy will be the one who takes most of Gibbs minutes in the midfield as that is what he was brought in for. Lang when fit will play as an outside midfielder with Dow, SPS and Fisher all rotating through as well. C. Curnow should also see a lot more midfield time this year as he matures. (Kerridge and Graham both seem to be out of favour somewhat and I don't think they are close to being best 22 when everyone is fit)

RUCK: Kreuzer will play as our number 1 ruck with Casboult and McKay pinch hitting.

FWD: Casboult and McKay will be our two tall forwards. McKay is finally over his injuries and should live up to his potential and getting games into him is a must. Wright and Thomas will add some much needed experience into our forward line and Curnow and Silvanghi will continue to develop. (Lamb unlucky to not be selected but I just don't see him as best 22, same with Garlett and Pickett)

Lang and Williamson are both in doubt for round 1 which I think will give Cunningham and one of Pickett/Garlett a chance to play round 1. Lang is definitely best 22 though and will push one of them out when fit where as Williamson could be kept out of the side indefinitely as he is only just in the best 22 when fit imo.

Very interested to see a Bulldogs team. From what I can see they have Jordan Roughead, Tom Campbell, Jackson Trengove and Tom Boyd all vying for a spot in the ruck, along with Tim English developing.

I believe they should run Campbell + Trengove chopping out with Boyd as a perma fwd but that doesn't seem to be the case based on JLT

I think you'll find Tom Campbell is at the back of the line. Not certain, but I'd hazard a guess that all three of Roughead, Trengove and Boyd will play weekly. Not sure on the preferred ruck order either, but best guess is Roughead -> Boyd -> Trengove. I'm sure meow probably has some idea.

Any Melb Demon supporters able to explain the hype around Corey Maynard? I see he's in the best 22 on the afl webby and also note he's played just the one game.

Blues Blues Blues

With Rocky gone, does this open up a more permanent midfield spot for Bell? Hard ball machine, big body.

Really want to pick him above Christensen

Meh, hopefully not. Still don't see him in our best 22, and if he did start rd1, there'd be a very good chance that he gets dropped by rd4.

But yeah, lock him in fellas.

Rough/Trengove ruck/def with Redpath up forward (after round 1) with English floating around the midfield/ruck if we want to go taller and use Trengove up forward instead. Schache and Boyd aren't AFL quality at the moment.

B: Biggs, Roughead, Cordy
HB: Crozier, Naughton, Williams
C: Hunter, Liberatore, Macrae
HF: Johan, Dunkley, Dahl
F: Wood, Redpath, Dale
R: Trengove, Bontempelli, McLean
I: Suckling, Daniel, Dickson, Picken

Wow no spot for Mitch Wallis? I thought he was great? Other than that it looks about right. Could argue ots a small fwd line but Richmond went alright with the mosquito fleet last year

Here's my take on the Giants best 22/starting Round 1 team:

B: Haynes / Davis / Finlayson
HB: Whitfield / Tomlinson / Shaw
C: Scully / Kelly / Coniglio
HF: Greene / Patton / Hopper
F: Himmelberg / Cameron / Taranto
R: Lobb / Shiel / Ward
I/C: de Boer / Deledio / Corr / Langdon
EMG: Corr / Mohr / Keeffe / Simpson

Currently Injured: Griffin, Buntine, Kennedy, Setterfield, Williams

Depth: Bonar, Cumming, Taylor, Daniels, Flynn, Tiziani, Shipley, Perryman, Lloyd, Sproule, J. Buckley, D. Buckley, Stein, Reid

RaisyDaisy

^ Pretty sure I've read Hopper, Griff and Scully are unlikely for R1

Cameron was pretty optimistic on Perryman being able to lock down a spot in the back too

I'd have Wood in the backline at the expense of Williams so Wallis plays half forward but we seem keen on playing Easton forward. Wood plays tall, as does Dunkley and then there's Bont who can go forward too so I don't think we're too short.

I don't think we have a best 22. Maybe 26 in contention depending on team balance.
