Would be shocked if Mathieson wasn't best 22 :o In saying that though I couldn't pick who comes out. Maybe Nick Robertson and Rich into the defence rotation?
Trying to find out what the injury was that caused Matho to be a late out for JLT2. This could have some implications for Rd 1 selection.

I think it was called BEASTMODE!

Heres my crack at Ports best 22

Jonas    Clurley    DBJ
Houston   Homsche   Bonner
Polec      Wines   Motlop
Wingard   Hoff      Boak
Gray      Dixon   Watts
Ryder        Ebert   Rocky
Hartlett   S.Gray     Spp       Howard
EMG:    McKenzie   Amon       Barry

Pittard and Broady are both injured at the moment. Pittard will likely come in but Broadbent may find it tough

Nige

I still intend to get around to finishing these. Should hopefully get them done by the end of the week.

AFL site has this for us

B: Kade Simpson, Liam Jones, Caleb Marchbank
HB: Ciaran Byrne, Jacob Weitering, Lachie Plowman
C: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Patrick Cripps, Matthew Kennedy
HF: Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, Matthew Wright
F: Paddy Dow, Levi Casboult, Jarrod Pickett
Foll: Matthew Kreuzer, Ed Curnow, Marc Murphy
I/C: Jack Silvagni, Zac Fisher, David Cuningham, Dale Thomas

Emerg: Jed Lamb, Aaron Mullett, Cameron O’Shea, Tom Williamson

Pretty close, I think Lamb comes in to play a defensive forward role on Houli. I think Williamson might be injured since he didn't play either JLT game, otherwise if fit I'd have him ahead of Byrne. Lang also comes in at some point but I think he has to come through the VFL with a lack of match fitness.

Garlett a better option than Pickett.

I think Baguley is underated and plays really well on small defenders.
He comes in for mine if McGrath is to be played in the middle. Goddard should play back more like he did at St.Kilda also.
Green is a good pressure fwd and should play over Langford imo.

I’m moreso thinking about the future, Baguley is on the wrong side of 30 now and the difference between him, McNiece and possibly even Ridley is pretty negligible.

You’d imagine Green will play round one with Fantasia out, that’s his time to stake his case to be a more permanent fixture in the best 22. He was pretty poor for the most part in 2017 but im definitely open to him getting plenty of game time if he can prove his worth - I just really want to put minutes into Langford because his upside is huge
Think it's hard to get a spot in the Ess fwd line at the moment, not sure Green makes the cut even with Fantasia out. Daniher and Hooker are the only two locks. I think we have to play Stewart as his size, pace and hard work makes the whole scheme work so much better. Walla provides valuable pressure, so he stays in. That leaves the two HFF spots; one is definitely for Stringer and the other one I'm guessing will go to Begley or a resting mid.

Heppell, Smith, McGrath, Parish, Zacka, Merrett and Goddard are all locks for the midfield rotations and Myers and Langford are in the mix as well. Just not enough spots on the interchange bench to fit all of these guys and Green, who I'd have at the bottom of the list.

Green is someone to me that just profits of the end of hard work by the team. Daniher, Hooker, Fanta etc. create goals that aren't already there where as Josh is too often just the end of the chain being gifted the result. Give me Begley over that shower any day.

Garlett a better option than Pickett.

Garlett is injured and Pickett showed enough in two games with his pace and ability to take the game on to get the nod ahead of him. Both are behind Lamb and if Lang is going to play half forward they may even be behind him when he is fit.

Never thought I would see the day, Liam Jones best 22 at the blues. Maybe Fishy can take Simpson's spot at the end of the year when he retires.

Mat0369

Liam Jones is going to be in the AA squad come the end of the season.

Thought I would have a crack at the Swan Rnd1

B: Lewis Melican, Heath Grundy, Nick Smith

HB: Jake Lloyd, Dane Rampe, Callum Mills

C: Zak Jones, Dan Hannebery, Isaac Heeney

HF: Harry Cunningham, Lance Franklin, Kieran Jack

F: Gary Rohan, Sam Reid, Tom Papley

FOLL: Callum Sinclair, Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker

I/C: George Hewett, Will Hayward, Nic Newman, Jarrad McVeigh

EMG: Oliver Florent, Darcy Cameron, Ryley Stoddart

DEPTH: Dean Towers, Aliir, Allir, Jordan Dawson, Jordan Foote, Matthew Ling, Jack Maibaum, Harrison Marsh, Tom McCartin, Dan Robinson, Colin O’Riordan

If Sinclair cant get up then Cameron comes in, don't think we go it with both at any point.

It might be the Dean Towers hater in me that puts him out of the team, I think he has naughty pics of Horse!

Cant find room for Aliir Aliir either with Grundy and Melican in the team

dmac07

My shot at Collingwood's best 22.

FB: Langdon - Dunn - Crisp
HB: Howe - Moore - Adams
C: H-Elliot - Treloar - Maynard
HF: Varcoe - Reid - Stephenson**
FF: Fasolo - Cox - C.Brown**
R: Grundy - Pendlebury - Sidebottom
INT: Thomas - Murray*** - Phillips*** - Scharenberg***

Injured - Elliot, DeGoey, Wells.

All these guys are likely back in the first few weeks. The guys marked *** are the ones most at risk of losing their spots early in the season. The non marked guys should probably play every week.

Fringe players - All these guys will get games at some point depending on form and injuries. Smith, Aish and Broomhead all in the mix for round 1.

Michocek, Murphy, J.Smith, Greenwood, Daicos, Aish, Broomhead

Depth Players - Crocker, Oxley, Blair, Kirby, Wills. Could play games but mostly through injury, wouldn't expect extended periods in the side from these guys.

Wont or unlikely to play any significant number of games this year: Magden, Lynch, Seir, T.Brown, Appleby, McClarty, Goldsack (Inj), Mayne

What about Fox? He looked really good in JLT 2. Would he come in for McVeigh if he is injured?

SydneyRox

I think Stoddart or Towers would be the option if Mcveigh doesnt get up. Fox is in the mix, but just a few behind IMO

Westhoff // SPP // Amon // Bonner/Howard

Fairly similar here from another Port fan. I think showertard’s injury has opened the door for Bonner to start round 1 when he otherwise would’ve been very much on the absolute fringe. Port could very well opt to play Howard over Hombsch regardless, that wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Amon I still feel is best 22, we don’t have enough outside players to go without him. I’m also adamant that Chad is better utilised in our current midfield setup considering our forward line, but it remains to be seen if the coaching staff share that sentiment.
