Tom McDonald?

The guy that's played in defense for 90% of his career? Look how well that worked with Weitering/Taylor last year.
He played forward quite a bit throughout last year and did a pretty decent job, no comparison to Weitering or Taylor.

Jesse Hogan missed a lot of football last year. If Pedersen and Hogan are playing forward I can't see McDonald playing a lot forward.

IMO Petracca will end up being a 80/20 mid fwd. Whether it is this year or next who knows but if Melbourne are going to be a premiership contender this year Petracca needs to become an A-Grader. As I have Melbourne in my top 4 I can see him making that leap this year. Happy to take the punt on him.

Just remember how long it took Dusty Martin to make that permanent jump though. Still might need a few more preseasons to get to the required fitness base.

good point,  remember well Dusty's variations pissing me off and costing me games in cash league.  Do hope we see tracca step up this year.  Also would like to see Melbourne progress to top 6.

Dusty averaged 101.8 SC in his 4th season. Petracca very similar mould to Dusty in progression and in his 4th season at Melbourne. Given Petracca is a mid/fwd an approx 95+ average is quite attainable. Anything around 95 if he plays the whole season given his price would be a good result.

Also true AK. Comparisons are there - I was more talking about how long it will take him to become a permanent fixture in the midfield but either way the scoring potential is there.

Well Pedersen wouldn't be playing in a fully fit Melbourne side anyway, Tom will be up forward when he plays, but I believe he is out this week though with a toe injury.

This is correct. McDonald will play forward all year and Pedersen to come into the team if McDonald or Hogan don't play any given week.

Will wait and see and upgrade if need to. Not going to go up too much in price (hopefully).

Does Vineys injury mean more midfield minutes for Petracca now? He has the size but does he have the tank?

His tank is ok, maybe not as good as some ie. Neal-Bullen. Hard to say but given he's their best medium forward it may not make any difference.

Speculator

Even if he plays mostly forward like last year, he will benefit from Melbourne's likely improvement PLUS his own natural development. So even in the absence of a large midfield presence his numbers may still spike. The question is can they spike all the way to a 95 average? I reckon he's a reasonable chance.

He seemed to attend a lot of the centre bounces in the JLT so with Viney out it might improve his possession game..

Pepi

I had gone pretty cold on him but with the latest Viney news he has found his way back into my side. i think a 90-95 average is very attainable and at his price i think he's worth the gamble

traded to Macrae this week. He should be fresh this week, because he did nothing last week. BE 128 this week.
