Hibberd and Hurley

Two pricey and popular defenders.
Like to hear some thoughts on a few doubts I've been having.

I read somewhere that Hibberd upped his average last year on the back of more intercept marks. Always gets alot of pill but his uncontested game affects getting the higher scores. With Lever now there also being an interceptor will it affect him?

Hurley is relied on not only to lock down a defender but also drive the counter attack. With Hooker staying fwd, Hartley being inexperienced, the arrival of Saad, plus McKenna and probably Goddard at times will this allow him to concentrate on more on stopping his man and leave the rebounding more to the aforementioned names?

Or am I over thinking these two?

Trying as is everyone to nail the best starting 3 backs and there is quite a few options Laird,Simmo,Yeo and then guys like Lloyd,Roberton etc.

I can only afford one player in this price range and Hurley is the man for me think he will be top 3 scoring back nothing wrong with Hibberd either

I had Hurley, Hibberd and Laird locked in for most of the pre season but in an effort to save a little cash I downgraded Hurley to Lloyd.
Only based this off the wrist injury though which isn't as bad as it initially looked.
To be honest I think they will both be top 5 so don't think you can go wrong picking either

I've had both of these guys in my side at various times, but the reality is that they're most likely priced at max value already and will drop in price

You want at least one of Laird/Yeo/Hurley/Hibberd and I'm now just going with Laird

That might change of course, but there seems to be plenty of value in the 400-500k range and saving approx 100k for the sake of possible a few ppg makes those cheaper options more attractive

If I had to pick one of Hurley or Hibberd though, my gut says Hurley although you're probably splitting hairs and can't go wrong with either really

About the only defender above 500k who was a lock this year was Docherty, everyone else can be bought at a cheaper price IMO. Hibberd is a really good pick but I'm concerned Lever will take a few points. Hurley will also drop eventually.

Hibberd and Laird play a very similar supercoach friendly role with a lot of uncontested possesions from the back half. Laird didn't seem negatively impacted by the emergence of Lever so I don't think Hibberd will be either. I actually think they will be the number 1/2 defenders come seasons end.

Hurley however, should be top 5 as well as he looks like he has finally found his best position and I think in a stronger team he should score just as well or better with more long high kicks being rushed into the forward line.

I have Laird/Hurley/Hibberd and then Brayshaw as my defenders.

Think Brayshaw is slightly risky, coach has stated he won't be playing midfield.

Think he is good for an 80-85 average as a rebounding defender, a risk that I am happy to take at this stage.

Hurley been locked into my side for a while. Hibberd is the one I'm going to need convincing on.

Ok, have given careful consideration to Hurley and he's now in the frame if Heeney stumbles next week. The stats that have turned me around is his outstanding century conversion.

The past 2 seasons he's played 39 games and chalked up 22 tons & eleven 80+ scores. Have never owned him but I may well take a chance given we have an abundance of cheap rookies this year.
