To Ablett or not to Ablett

I need convincing that Ablett is a bad idea.

Cons:
Hasn't played 22 games since 2007.
Only played 49/88 games in past 4 years.
Shoulder still a concern?
Surely misses games to the General.

Pros:
All reports say he is on fire at training.
Scoring ability.

631k for a guy with those cons.

Don't think he is a bad idea more so risky no doubt he will score well when playing that's what he has always done but just as you have highlighted it has been his body that has let him down in recent years and he is 631K so you would not be getting him to make money it's all about his scoring and staying on the park.

I'd love to start GAJ. If it was a case of either he plays and scores well, or gets a LTI then fine. But it's the "general soreness", niggles or "rested" that puts me off. If he lasts untill the rd.14 bye then gets injured(or even better doesn't)) he could pay off massively over starting an Oliver/Kelly/Crouch or even Dusty. If he was cheaper I'd do it.

GAJ = lock

He is the one and only SC God.

All the news I've seen of him suggests he is in ripping nick and over all his past injuries

I want to believe he'll play 22 games, because I can just see it now looking at live scores every week and watching his scores right up there with Danger, and having both of them would be sweet, and not having him when he is on 110 at 3/4 time is going to suck, but I just don't think I will start him

Hope it doesn't cost me too much

Was my first picked
Good luck mate. Might be one of your first traded.
I understand it though. In some ways I am a sucker for Beams.
By starting GAJ who do leave out of Danger, Fyfe or the reigning Brownlow medallist?
You can't have too many R14 mids.
Wouldn't think a GAJ and Beams combo would be too healthy either.
That plus, GAJ's recent history are my reasons for just saying no.

With his aging body targeted weekly by opposition teams I don't see him rising to any great heights this year which is a shame because he is a true champion of the game.

frenzy

he don't have to carry the weight Gold Coast around anymore.

Somewhere else on this forum a wise man once said, and I’m paraphrasing, take risks on players who’s risk is of injury not on players who’s risk is scoring ability.

I had him in my initial side, not in my current side. But I think that’s only because of sharing a bye with Danger.

All the talk is that he’s not there to be a forward, he is a midfielder first and foremost and will rest in the forward line. Everyone tends to exaggerate during preseason but by all reports he is flying and I imagine with such a high profile recruit it would be hard to hide any niggles or injuries from the public eye.

He may yet return to my midfield, I’m a huge Ablett fan and love the romanticism behind his return home and having a huge impact.

You know he’s going to score well and if he gets injured you’ll be able to afford to trade him to almost anyone.

Like I said before - its not the scoring or an LTI that's the worry. Its the annoying 1-2 week niggles/general soreness/ rests where u are stuck with  him on the bench taking rookie scores.

Geelong play :-
West Coast     round 3            AWAY
Adelaide         round 5            AWAY
Gold Coast      round 11          AWAY
in between 5 games at home and 5  at the MCG before their RD.14 bye. Could he conceivably play right up to the bye ??  In my team atm and will stay if he looks like starting as a POD. If ever one was going to risk a trade on a player, surely that player could be Gazza.
