I usually wait until 3 or 4 rounds have been played then go through the team lists looking for weird players who have started the season well but who I know little or nothing about.  Last year was Clayton Oliver's turn, he was perfect, he even looked weird.
Everybody will have him this year, but that's cool, I'll still be rummaging through the garbage looking for that little lump of gold.

I keep going back to the West Coast's list looking for the golden nugget. I mean any team that retires two 'A grade' mids in Priddis and Mitchell surely has to give opportunities to young blokes, especially when they didn't get any from the draft. So does this make Duggan or maybe Sheed that golden egg.

Norm Smith moving to half forward will reap some interesting results. I expect some HUGE games but some shockers too.

Does Crozier take his place at half back?

My thoughts on PoDs is that I don't really understand the appeal behind having a PoD. IMHO, if you're going to pick a player, it's because they fall into one of two categories:

1. They're going to be in the top 6 (or 8 ) of their position for the upcoming season.
2. They're going to make you a stack of money.

I don't go out of my way to find points of difference, I just do an estimate of where I think each players will finish and who will make the best money and pick the best from those determinations. If my opinions don't line up with everyone else's, then I end up with a PoD, but I don't view it as me being unique, I look at it as me being right while everyone else is wrong  ;)

dunno about that in 2014 i picked jack macrae and he had an amazing breakout year only in like .6% of teams he was massive in getting me to 1 overall for a few weeks and keeping me in the top 30 come seasons end. PODs are great to have because you them to seperate you from others

Redden the main beneficiary, Duggan and Sheed only improve through natural progression imo.

Despite losing two starting mids, it was well documented that Pridda spent time on HFF, and Smitch HBF so its really just one full-time mid coming in and imo, thats where Redden will thrive.

Certainly, the big draw for Crozier was Bevo assuring him a spot on a back flank where he only got about 8 or so matches for Freo. Can see him flourishing just quietly, currently in my AF side.

spot on, there has to be a nugget there somewhere and its more than likely Reddo.

Shane Savage - owned by 2% atm

After Rd 16 last year (after getting over his injuries and making his way back into the side) he scored 101,125,107,103,115,94,76,81 and scored 145 in JLT 1 this year. If he backs up his score in JLT 2 with 100+ I will be mighty tempted. Montagna retired now as well so 100% taken his role

Hadn't considered him but those stats are good. Not sure how they will fit all of Savage, Geary & Coffield but certainly one to watch.

Geary's captain isn't he? Hard to see him getting dropped.

Savage and Geary have nothing to do with each other really

Agreed

Thinking Savage goes more towards a +1 role and Roberton goes more 1 on 1 defensive

Adamant

That's all well and good but Savage wasn't injured early in the season, he was dropped and didn't look like being offered another contract at seasons end. To his credit he worked hard in the VFL and was able to find a good balance between defence and attack, but the Saints aren't exactly short on rebounding defender options and if he slips up, he could find himself on the scrap heap again.

Not really something I'd want to have in the back of my mind if I'm forking out 480k.

The only reason I say Savage could be a lock is that Saints are screaming for good ball users off half back and Savage is a flowering good kick. Roberton played the +1 role well last year but whilst he can intercept his kicks are fairly average. They’ll be looking to give the ball to Savage as much as possible. Also who else can play the role? Webster? Meh. Gilbert? Yuck. Newnes? Winger. Coffield? He’ll get game time but won’t play the same role. Montagna is gone, and Savage is young. Give him a fair crack

Haha I take it you don't watch a lot of Saints games because Roberton is one of the most accurate kicks in the league.

One bloke you failed to mention is Brandon White who has a massive leg on him and is rated very highly internally. I think he'll play round one and establish himself as a best 22 lock by the end of the season. Bailey Rice is another who is very much in the Bachar Houli mould and someone they'll be keen to get some game time into. Webster is underrated, he probably won't get much better than he already is but he too would have to be one of the best kicks in the league.

Savage could continue on his form over the second half of 2017 or the younger blokes could push him out if he isn't performing, either way he's priced at 87 so it's not like you'll regret it too much if he's averaging 95 and you have to upgrade to him.

Haven't seen Sloane in a single team.
Despite having a few shockers when tagged he still only averaged slightly less than Crouch who seems to be in every second ot third team.
Goddard is tipping him to win the brownlow due to predicting him" having conquered last season's concerns with a tag" how he would know that I've no idea but if he does score 80+ instead of 40 in those few games he could easily be a top 8 mid. I mean he was top 9 last year. He got off to a flyer and would have helped owners to do the same.
Add to that the Crows seemed to win when he was tagged so maybe won't happen as much.  And add to that Gibbs coming in to take more attention and I think he has some serious merit as a POD.
