I am back in AUS for this sc season and I am hoping to dominate this year......or at least improve.

After viewing much of the advice given to others it is only fair i post a team for you to comment on. So here s my first attempt.

BACKS: Hurley, Laird, Crisp, Brayshaw (melb),Doodee, Murray   rsv: Morgan, Mihocek

I don't like too many of the high priced defenders so I am happy to take a risk on crisp getting to a 95avg. Brayshaw I am not too sure about but can find a bit of coin to upgrade after JLT if needed.

MIDS: Martin, Mitchell, Zorko, Fyfe, Pendlebury, Griffin, Davies-Uniacke, Brodie    rsv: Ahern, Kelly, Barry
6 premium mids didn't work for me last season. So have gone with a danger-less five plus Griffin. May turn Griffin into a rookie yet.

RUCKS: Kruezer, Gawn    rsv: English

Kruezer may be a bit overpriced but should still be a 105+avg season from him

FWDS: Heeney, Billings, Walters, B.Ah Chee, Higgins, W.Rioli      rsv: Garlett, Ryan
I am backing my man Walters in for a massive year. Ah Chee can be changed. I am watching Christensen and Stephenson in particular here.

Let me know you thoughts. Thanks  :)

Hurley and Laird are a real good chance of being the number 1 and 2 defender this year so can't complain there. Crisp is a bit of a risk but the defence is the line to take risks on unproven midpricers and he did finish last year reasonably well so can't fault that pick. I was hoping Brayshaw would be a bit of a pod for me as I think he is a good chance of going 90+ this year as an inside mid in a strong side, obviously injuries are a concern but I think he is a risk worth taking.

Structure wise I love the midfield but think if you can find away to turn Zorko or Pendles into Danger you should although neither are bad picks. Love Brodie at M8.

As a Carlton fan I love Kreuzer but can't justify his price tag. Gawn is a lock.

Heeney and Billings again are a good chance at being the 1 and 2 forward this year. Walters is a risk but if he does get more midfield time like he has been promised then he is a risk worth taking. 60 one week and 130 the next has to be expected from him however but think overall a 95 average is achievable which justifies the selection. Although I am not keen on Ah Chee just yet I can understand why you are starting him.

Kreuzer to Jacobs
Pendles/Zorko to Danger

Is what I would try and do if funds permit.

Hi Ant, I like your team, good work! I'd just suggest you ditch Griffen, just swap him down to a rookie

Yep good suggestion. Not sold on him and plenty of others to choose from below his price. Will see how he gets on in pre season before changing cheers

Thanks for that amte. I am keen to see how the geelong mids get on with another gun in the guts before commiting on picking up Danger. My best Sc season was when i didn't start Ablett when he was in a similar position that Danger is in now. But he may still find a way in before R1 yet.

Also, as a carlton supporter, how are they going to plug that large Docherty sized hole in defence? Are you backing old man Simpson to do his stuff again or maybe an O'Shae or even a fit Cairan Byrne? Interested in you thought on that money.

I personally think (and have thought all pre season) that Mullet is the best replacement for Docherty.

Jones, Marchbank, Plowman and Weitering are all taller defenders so adding O'shea to that list means that we would have the tallest back line in the league and by a long way especially with teams trying to replicate Richmond's 'mosquito army'.

Byrne is loved within Carlton and if fit would probably squeeze his way into our 22 or be very close but he doesn't play a role like Docherty would and isn't an accumulator like Docherty. Even if he is named round 1 which is a possibility I don't see him as a viable option 60-65 average I would assume

Mullet is the one I think will replace Docherty as he played a similar role at North. He is more of an accumulator and has the pace to break lines and send it inside 50 which is what the blues need. He will score around 85avg this year in my opinion.

Simpson will continue being simpson and score 90-95 while playing every game just like he has every year. Great pick.  Will be a top 5-10 defender.

O'brien is also someone who we will want to get games into who will start off as a halfback and as he gets more mature will play into the midfield. If he is named round 1 which is possible I would really consider him.

Plowman, Jones, Marchbank
Simpson, Weitering, Mullet

with Byrne on the bench is my back 6/7 at this stage.

O'brien and O'shea will get games too but don't see them in the round 1 side at this stage.
