Hi All,

I understand the general set up of teams, however given that we often make the most $$ from Mids, is it viable or has anyone tried to load up premiums in their FWD & BACK Lines and then use the rest of the $$ (outside of the rucks) to get mids that are going to make $$?

Was just a thought & might be a silly idea but ..........

It's just too hard to predict who the premium forwards and backs will be though.

You could for instance load up your forward line with Menegola, Buddy, Heeney, Billings and I could get the same points or very close out of Dahlhaus, Barlow, Lobb, Christensen for a fraction of the price.

In the midfield if you go with value in Coniglio, O'Meara, Cripps etc, you know they aren't getting near Danger, Dusty, Mitchell.

Better to look for value where it's more of an unknown who the top players will be

This has been done before actually on one of the other SC forums (forgot which one you should be able to google it) the person got a ranking of 700 or so... BUT this was when the forwards consisted of Goodes, Brown, Franklin (when he was at Hawks aka God mode) so going light in mids wasnt too much of a problem. ALSO GC rookies were plentiful so making money with O'Meara Swallow etc didn't pose much of a problem.

This year Defenders and forwards don't produce nearly as many points as the mids plus rookies are fairly hard to come by if I'm being honest. Lovell, Dow, Davies and Brodie are good shouts but the trade off this you are missing a potential 110 per game mid for a 90-95 forward/defender. Nowadays mids score so much more than the rest of the lines that most people go crazy when they hear "so and so is training with the mids".

I'm not going to discourage you from trying it out, I mean who knows SC has been won with crazy out of the box ideas, but keep in mind of the positives and negatives of doing this.

Majority of the teams that do well are the teams that look similar or as people call them cookie cutter teams the ones that stand out from them are the cookie cutter teams with some slight variations or pods

Yeah the way it normally goes is
Top Ranks - Cookie cutter with Risks/PODs that pay off, correct trade selections and timing, Good run with Injuries or POD teams that get everything right.
Top to Mid Ranks - Cookie cutter that has a good run with injury or good trade selections
Mid Ranks - Cookie cutter that just follow the pack the whole way
Mid to Low Ranks - Cookie cutter that has a bad injury run or poor trade choices
Low Ranks - POD teams that don't plan out

Good luck picking the correct premo def and fwds this year.

Being a creature of habit, dealing with the generational change is the hardest part for me... Simmo, GAJ etc being usurped is hard to take

fair point,  though i think if you started both this year you will still be at the pointy end of the ladder.
Simmo reminds me of Enright, Burgoyne still going to do what he does and with Doc out hard to not see him being top 5 def.    GAZ is going to score regardless, resting and injury are his risks also value for money is not that good given additional risk.   Anybody want to bet he is not averaging 120+ at byes?

I like this guy, but I can't get myself to pick him when I look at the Geelong team. Hoping Dahl comes good again myself

You should read the Menegola thread on page 3 here, some more info about him in there ;)

I'm struggling to pick ~3 premos in defence and forwards as it is, let alone loading up in those possies to go weaker in the mids :P

Agree with GL no real 3 prem standouts in either Backs or Forwards so better to load up on mids where points will be made,
