Thought I'd share my early thoughts for the up coming season.
Working on structure at the moment then filling in the blanks.

R Laird, M Hibberd, B Ellis, P Hanley, N Coffield, T Doedee.
(I Cumming, A Morgan.)

P Dangerfield, T Mitchell, N Fyfe, M Botempelli, P Cripps, S Coniglio, L Davies-Uniacke, T Kelly.
(J Worpel, J Garlett, D Barry.)

S Jacobs, M Gawn. (T Olango.)

T Greene, J Billings, A Christensen, B Ah Chee, J Higgins, W Rioli.
(J Dawson, D Venables.)

Happy enough with the structure. Deep mids and shallow forwards.
Reasonable bye situation, 2-10-8-10.
Limited funds available with 8.4k remaining.

Some fine tuning required with some X vrs Y situations. Tempted to go T Greene to K Lambert to free up funds.
Thoughts welcomed.

I like it a lot, well done. I just can't bring myself to buy into Brandon Ellis though. I'd much rather have another rookie in defence and then upgrade one of those cheap forwards to Heeney.

Also, I think I missed the memo on Venables and am really curious. Why do so many teams have him? Is he going to walk into that Eagles 22 and make us a heap of cash?

LordSneeze

Imo there is too much risk in your prems to run a mid price fwd line.

Ellis, hanley, bont, cripps, coniglio, billings are all risky prem picks. Some will say that they are prem and id trend to agree for the most part, but they arent top of position prems and alot come with high levels of risk.

If you need to correct a few rookies or mid price picks you leave yourself open to being stuck with sub par prems compared to others.

Cheers for the reply jonahfalcond.
I don't mind Ellis, he just doesn't miss games and I believe he can still improve.
From round 10 onwards last season his scores were. 147, 96, 110, 119, 96, 78, 98, 92, 110, 65, 79, 110 and 101.
Averaged 100 from round 10. Wish I had him rather than Heath Shaw.
I have a contact who follows WC very closely. At this stage he says Rioli and Venables should be both playing round 1. Early days and plenty of time for fine tuning.

Thanks LS.
Solid advice. At this stage I'm willing to back Ellis, Bont, Cripps, Coniglio and Billings.
I have to be honest and say I'm not that keen on Hanley at the moment. Have heard whispers of mid time for him and that is the only reason he's in my squad. Will monitor his pre season but he is my fall guy.
I'm willing to downgrade Hanley and use the cash elsewhere.

Nice picks I reckon Creeker.
Hanley could be a great pick but the bye scared me off in the end.
I like Toby and wouldn’t change him and Coniglio is another I like but I can’t fit him in. Is Coniglio a planned keeper or stepping stone?

Hey Creekers, good work mate, I like it, with the exception of Hanley.

Grufflez

Nice team, are you at all worried about Bont's drop off in the second half of last year?

Beams to me seems better value than Bont and Cripps, do you not like players who
are unlikely to play 21+ games?

Jury still out for me with Hanley. D4 always seems to be my last picked every year. That is the one spot where I'm always willing to take a risk.
Happy with Coniglio and can't see any reason why he can't last all season at M8. We/I got lucky with M8's last season. Most teams M8's were averaging around 105. I had lots of dpp's last year and was floating Adams, Macrae and Yeo in that position. Coniglio penciled in at M8 but could be upgraded to a super prem. See how it goes.

Yep. Hanley is no lock just yet. We'll take a close look at his pre season.
Thanks mate.

A little concerned with the Bonts drop in points as the season went on and I have been flipping between Bont and Beams. At this stage Bont just wins as is a little more durable. If I had a little extra coin I would have Zerrett in my team over Bont.
Thanks for your reply Grufflez. Good luck for your season.

SilverLion

Solid team with a similar structure to my own. Only concerns are the Ellis and Bont picks, but if you are confident with them, trust your gut.

Money Shot

Firstly, I like the side mate some nice pods and good overall structure.

I really like the Ellis pick. I am surprised that he isn't in more teams. Think he is a really good chance at going in that top 5-10 bracket, especially with Williams and Docherty gone.

Hanley was in my first draft but I can't justify starting him with his bye as he is no certainty for 100+ which is what he is capable of. He is the perfect wait and see case for mine. Would downgrade too Wilson, McGrath, Mills, Brayshaw, Seedsman, Birchall or a rookie and use the cash elsewhere.

Like all the picks in the midfield. First 3 are good chances for the top 3 mids at the end of the year and the other 3 could up there average by 10 points.

Rucks are good.

Although the forward line has only two premiums it is definitely the line for value so can't fault it.

creeker

Lots of changes to my team from a month ago.

R Laird, M Hibberd, K Simpson, J Lloyd, J Sicily, T Doedee.
(S Murray, D Mirra.)

P Dangerfield, D Martin, N Fyfe, M Bontempelli, P Cripps, J O'Meara, L Davies-Uniacke, T Kelly.
(J Worpel, D Barry, N Holman.)

M Gawn, S Lycett. (T Olango.)

I Heeney, M Barlow, D Smith, A Chrisensen, L Ryan, B Fritsch.
(P Ahearn, J Dawson.)

Batting too deep in the backline but a little concerned with the lack of rookie defenders.

Have the core of my team set but still have some X vs Y issues to contemplate.
(EG) Sicily and Lycett VS Goldy/Sauce and Naughton ?

At this stage Lycett is in. Shouldn't lose any coin at his price point. I'd be happy with low 70s from him and use that extra 220k elsewhere. Gawn locked and then I haven't got to much faith in the other rucks. This gives me time to see who is scoring well and I can pick them up a little later. (Sauce, Goldy, Kruz or Grundy.)

It's a different structure to teams I've started in the past but I think we are in for a strange supercoach year ahead.

frenzy

jaeger to rookie mid, then lycett to jacobs/ goldy. Better to start with set and forget, than burn trades on rucks. Chances are you'll have other issues to deal with, but the rest is good.
