Can't see Carlton playing him too much forward, The kid is a contested and clearance beast! Will just be rested up there like all the other best mids. If anything it makes me want him more

Cripps the fwd, does this change anyone's opinion?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-16/trading-places-star-blues-cripps-and-curnow-to-switch-it-up
Danger, Dusty and Fyfe play as ball winners who rest in the forward line as they can pose a threat down there. Someone like M.Crouch, doesn’t, and rests on the bench â€" his TOG is much lower than the other 3.

This is the hopes for Carlton and Cripps. The article has words like “occasionally” and “pinch” littered throughout and sounds like Curnow will still be used predominately in the same role as last year. Cripps is one of the best inside mids in the comp, they need him at the contest. However, when they do throw Cripps forward (instead of the bench), there’s more chances to score so if anything, I see it as a positive. Combined with how cheap he is and his bye, he’s a no brainier and just a typical fluff article the AFL has written to fill space that we supercoaches think to much about.

No where near a no brainer.

A realistic expectation is he will average 105-110. Only 9 players averaged over 110 and another 9 between 105 & 110.
From those players over a 105 average only 9 played all 22 games.

He is not that cheap priced at an implied 98 average.
Priced at $537k if he averages 110 (top of realistic range - implied $605k) until his bye your only saving $68k. 115 would be $638k & $100k saving. This is all taking into account that he is at peak price at his bye, which is unlikely to happen.

Then you have the chance that he doesn't take that step into the 105+ average and you are stuck with a underperforming premium who likely won't be the biggest concern in your team.

There is a completely different story if he is priced at $450k as even if he doesn't take that step to the top 20 players then you are still likely to gain $$$, but for his price and what you save taking him over a more solid premium it doesn't make sense that so many people are picking him.

For a gain on 50-100K, ill happily let other people take the risk and upgrade to him if he is showing to be a top 15 Mid.

I'm as big a fan of Cripps as the next bloke, love the way he plays and he's an absolute beast

BUT

Every time I look at him at M5 in my side, it just doesn't feel right

Might regret it, but I am starting to think I won't be starting him. I feel more comfortable paying a bit more to get someone I feel is much more reliable, or getting a good saving and picking Conigs

Cripps doesn't need to 'take the next step', he already has a 107.6 average under his belt. He averaged 102.9 without the broken leg game last year coming off absolutely no pre-season and was in the middle of a hot streak when he went down, he most likely would have replicated his 2016 season otherwise.

Just needs to stay on the park and he IS a top 15 midfielder that is priced 10 points below what he has already averaged, with a whole lot of upside on top of that.

frenzy

any chance Carlton is looking after him, coming back from his busted leg. Not too many come back and play their 'A' game, straight away. just my opinion.

I just don't see the point in betting Cripps in the hope he goes to the next level when for 20k more you can get Beams or Selwood who you know will do it and have a history of doing it

I reckon you'd get much better odds on Cripps going 110+ than beams playing 22 games of a season. Obviously he can score but it isn't as if he's a safe pick. Jelwood has been on a decline in the past few years and with Ablett coming in I don't see how it will increase his scoring. Not saying it'll make him score less just saying I don't see how it could make him improve. Obviously he's been affected with injury scores in his averages and stuff but I wouldn't say he is a definite 110+ either.

Happy to pay $537,000 for a discounted mid that will hit 600K at some point this season if stays injury free. When carlton win or are in close games it wont be done without a massive score from cripps. He is a contested beast and aside from murphy and kruezer he will be the standout for carlton. That's my opinion anyways, First full pre season, can't be tagged, huge ceiling. Locked in my side.

Cripps is just as injury prone and likely to miss games though. I just prefer proven performers over potential

Yeah fair enough. I feel like pretty much all of his injuries haven't been reoccurring though, unlike beams who obviously gets the soft tissue injuries. I still think although Cripps hasn't had a complete season of 110+, if you look at his back end of 2016 and the form he was in before he got injured last year that he has proven himself enough (to me at least) so that with his first full pre season that he should come out and dominate.

Cripps and Conigs at M5 and M6 for me so far. Not moving them until they give me a reason to  ;)

Yep, I have the same and feel this line is almost set in stone (rookies aside).
